It was an accident. It is the AZA's fault for not restricting the fence height--not the zoo's. Why would they intentionally have a fence that was too low? There is no way you can control what visitors do unless you catch them doing something stupid-- people steal things from stores even when there are video cameras.Very naive!

I have been raised with animals all my life and know how to respect them and to leave them alone when they obviously don't want to be bothered. Even my 2 young kids know better, and were raised better than to bother the animals, of which we have 6! Sadly, zoo animals don't have a whole lot to look forward to, whether contained to a small cage or to a small space of land to roam across. People shouldn't taunt any animal, be it a tiger or a domestic animal. The animal has every right to attack. Taunting is never okay. Something could've been done other than shooting the tiger. It was in a zoo for goodness sake. I guess they don't own a tranquilizer gun to sedate any of the animals. Instead, why not just shoot it, right? Good grief.

don I have mixed feelings about zoos. Jack Hanna's zoo is one of the best in the world. The animals are well cared for and have plenty of space to roam. They get fed well and have the best medical care. I love visiting the animals at our local zoo. The circuses are the WORST. Now that's one thing I am against.

The story is simple, the tiger was not fed and was very very hungry it was xmas and cold. The tiger smelled what it perceived mexican food, a burrito a taco and a enchilada. Hence the tiger mauled over his options, no pun intended. Thus this very very clever tiger had it his way even tho it was not burger king!!!!!
I know the victim's family. This is all very tragic and unbelievable. However, what is upsetting to me is that the media is confusing the character of the two survivors with the victim. The survivors had a checkered past, not the victim. He was a young man that was friends with the younger survivor. The victim should be judged by the survivors past. I hope the families of these boys bring law suits against the zoo. Also, sue the police department for not taking action quick enough to rescue the young man that was killed. Several experts have already said that the wall was 4 feet too short. This is a tragedy, and the zoo was clearly at fault if the wall was not adequate.

People should remembere that there is always a risk when you are around wild animals. It was an accident. It is the AZA's fault for not restricting the fence height--not the zoo's. Why would they intentionally have a fence that was too low? There is no way you can control what visitors do unless you catch them doing something stupid-- people steal things from stores even when there are video cameras.Very naive!

I have been raised with animals all my life and know how to respect them and to leave them alone when they obviously don't want to be bothered. Even my 2 young kids know better, and were raised better than to bother the animals, of which we have 6! They love them and treat them how they would like to be treated and of course they respect them. I guess if you're never taught it, you don't ever learn it!! Sadly, zoo animals don't have a whole lot to look forward to, whether contained to a small cage or to a small space of land to roam across. People shouldn't taunt any animal, be it a tiger or a domestic animal. The animal has every right to attack. Taunting is never okay. Something could've been done other than shooting the tiger. It was in a zoo for goodness sake. I guess they don't own a tranquilizer gun to sedate any of the animals. Instead, why not just shoot it, right? Good grief.

don I have mixed feelings about zoos. Jack Hanna's zoo is one of the best in the world. The animals are well cared for and have plenty of space to roam. They get fed well and have the best medical care. I love visiting the animals at our local zoo. The circuses are the WORST. Now that's one thing I am against.

inchon4u, Their history has nothing to do with being attacked by a tiger, what rules did they break? Has there been any true evidence that they did anything wrong, can someone have compassion here for human beings? What if it was your brother or family member that was killed or mauled?

If you research - it was reported that the zoo keeper was attacked last year by this same tiger. You can easily find this information within the reports. Clean up your mouth and be a good citizen!

Yeh this tiger has not attacked before - mainly cause he's locked in a fucking cage. Therefore I am not judging what I don't know. If you "know better" please enlighten all of us - I'm sure CNN would have picked up on this right away and dubbed the tiger as a "deadly human killer" - but - obviously you know better. Considering the past history of the dumb cunts that got killed or injured, it's too bad the tiger ended up getting killed. Yeh - after like 2 million visits he just happens to jump the fence after 3 innocent law biding animal lovers were blowing kisses to him - riiiiiigh. The story is simple, the tiger was not fed and was very very hungry it was xmas and cold. The tiger smelled what it perceived mexican food, a burrito a taco and a enchilada. Hence the tiger mauled over his options, no pun intended. Thus this very very clever tiger had it his way even tho it was not burger king!!!!!

I know the victim's family. This is all very tragic and unbelievable. However, what is upsetting to me is that the media is confusing the character of the two survivors with the victim. The survivors had a checkered past, not the victim. He was a young man that was friends with the younger survivor. The victim should be judged by the survivors past. Carlos was a hero for saving one of them. These young men are from two different families.

The zoo needed to protect these boys. The zoo did not do this. The zoo should be sued for millions for their neglect. Zoos across the nation needs to completely overhaul the way they contain their animals and protect the public. We need laws that will force zoos to comply!!

i dont know about anyone else but i love to see when someone gets killed or attacked by an animal. it shows that the animal still has a fight left in him even though he has been locked up in a 5 feet radious cage for 20 years. i love it. then everyone says why the tiger would do such a thing. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. because humans are a stupid race that will be swept off the earth in 20 years for a new race to come to try and do something different.

Are you freaking serious? Here we are trying to help these animals breed again because they are endangered. I don't think that provoked behavior is undeserved but to say that you ENJOY it is pretty freaking sick. There have been unprovoked attacks before IN the wild. Being mauled to death by a wild animal sucks no matter what kind of animal you are.
Speaking of the zoo, San Francisco zoo is without a doubt the worst zoo I've ever been to, which is quite strange for a town so "in touch."

Here are some weird things,
The victims parents didn't know where their son was on xmas day. Or how he even got to SF then found out later that he went with his friends the other two victims.
All three were at the enclosure when the tiger got out.
There is a foot print at the railing of the enclosure.
It sounds like those three went to the zoo on xmas day and decided to have some fun by dangling their feet off the railing to see if the tiger could "get them" and she did.

I don't blame the cops, they did what they had to. The reports are now that the tiger was taunted, and deliberately let loose - IF that's true, too bad the tiger only got one. Being in the zoo obviously dulled its abilities.

I hope the families of these boys bring law suits against the zoo. Also, sue the police department for not taking action quick enough to rescue the young man that was killed. Several experts have already said that the wall was 4 feet too short. This is a tragedy, and the zoo was clearly at fault if the wall was not adequate.

Damn... thats really scary... i was seriously planning a trip to a zoo the last few months, and I live in Santa Cruz, which makes the San Fran zoo my local zoo...
If i hadn't decided to come home for christmas instead, that very literally could have been me that got killed or mangled....
