  • A salute to the Ian Bannen with are glasses high.

His corps in the ground, and his spirit in the sky.

With a shit grin on his face knowing he finished before us in the Human race.

Kudos Ian, thanks for your devotion to share your great talent with the world, and in return the world will remember you.

  • The words that are spoken on a funeral, are spoken too late for the man who is dead. What a wonderfull thing it would be to visit your own funeral.

I love Ned Devine, this film means real friendship to me. It is so gorgeous...

  • Lux Aeterna is used as the Communion Song during Requiem Masses according to the 1962 Missal. The lyrics and english translation are as follows:

    Lux aeterna

    Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine,

    cum sanctis tuis in aeternum,

    quia pius es.

    Requiem aeternum dona eis, Domine,

    et Lux perpetua luceat eis,

    cum Sanctus tuis in aeternum,

    quia pius es.

  • @NowhereMan546

Let eternal light shine on them, Lord,

as with Your saints in eternity,

    because You are merciful.

    Grant them eternal rest, Lord,

and let perpetual light shine on them,

as with Your saints in eternity,

    because You are merciful.

  • @NowhereMan546

Maybe it´s too late to answer this. All the things you ´ve mentioned are correct, but the version used in the movie is a little different, ´cause it closes with "Gloria Patri et Filio et Spiritu Sancto. Sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen." In English: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be in all eternity. Amen. But, again: All you´ve written is right. Thank you!

  • always a tear to my eye

  • @sithlord1012 yes same here

  • ...so fill to me the parting glass

and drink to health what ere befalls

    then gently rise

    and softly call

good night and joy be to you all

    RIP Mr. Bannon

  • Fantastic movie. Irish artists are magnificent.

  • correct lyrics can be found on lyricwikia

  • @BlancoJ360

    Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine,

    cum sanctis tuis in aeternum,

    quia pius es.

    Requiem aeternum dona eis, Domine,

    et Lux perpetua luceat eis,

    cum Sanctus tuis in aeternum,

    quia pius es.

    Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine,

    et lux perpetua luceat eis.

  • I feel like a fool but I've just learned that Jackie O'Shea (Ian Bannon) was killed in a car crash back on November 3, 1999.

Jackie O'Shea was my great friend. If he was here now, if he could hear what i say, I'd congratulate him on being a great man, and thank him for being a friend. Rest in piece Mr. Bannon you had a great run. May we all raise a parting glass to you.

  • thank you for your tribute to Ian a good and dear friend of mine. When he died an African gentleman who met Ian while filming To Walk With Lions send a letter addressed to the great white chief Ian Bannen London .. and it reached his widow !

  • This is one of my favourite films too, and I'm English. A tribute to good old fashioned values and way of life, sadly missed by many of us these days.

  • It be worth the purchase. Put it in yer collection. I watch it a least once a year.

  • But someone have ever found the lyrics of the part in latin??? I tried but I Found nothing...someone can help me??

  • Soy de Colombia, amo esta película, para mi es la mejor película que he visto en mi vida, espectacular, le he dado una copia a todos mis amigos y familia para que la disfruten.. viva irlanda

  • I'm Chinese, and I loved this movie. So you don't have to be Irish to enjoy it. :D

  • "you don't have to be Irish to enjoy this movie" very true, but you get that little bit more from it though,it's hard to explain:):):)

  • Ah whatever, I feel like I'm part Irish anyway. :P

  • @genomatekk,why's that then? you like irish culture etc, ain't the same thing i'm afraid,

  • well, I have lots of Irish friends and hang out with them a lot, if that counts. :P

  • I am such a fan of James Nesbitt, not many people cross the divide but this man is a legend, God bless him.

  • Does anyone know where I could find a clip of the funeral scene?

  • My sister in law didn't get it. Maybe you have to be Irish.

  • i cry every time I listen to this speech.

  • It would be nice to spell Ned Devine correctly.

  • Hah! As if you're the first person to notice! I've made the appropriate changtes. Thank you!

  • may we all live old and feel the pain and then die! ha ha ha...ah cheers! God love me!

  • the words spoken are priceless

  • Michael O'Sullivan was my great friend.

But I don't ever remember telling him that.

The words that are spoken at a funeral are spoken to late for the man who is dead.

What a wonderful thing it would be to visit your own funeral. To sit at the front and hear what was said. Maybe to say a few things yourself. Michael and I grew old together. The times when we laughed we grew younger. If he was here now, if he could hear what I say I'd congradulate him on being a great man and thank him for

  • That's my favorite part of the movie, too. I know it by heart, as you probably do. He takes the opportunity to show his friend what people would say about him at his funeral. Brilliant.

  • ,,they can see and hear you, you just don't see them.

  • being a friend.

  • being a friend.

  • I can't get enough of this movie and its beautiful music. It makes a great Christmas gift. Thanks for the posting.

  • I love the speaking bit at the end...such wonderful thoughts and sentiments.

  • this is definatly my favourite film of all time, its just simply beautiful, with a perfect soundtrack

  • Waking Ned Devine is my favorite film also; and every time I watch it, I get something more out of it than I missed before.

  • I love this music so very much, it's so beautiful and sad that it makes me cry. Makes me think of a friend I've lost.

  • This is the best movie ever. My husband is Scottish, and I'm Norwegian..To say the least, we like to drink, with good freinds!

I love them all...and we laugh at life!through thick and thin:)

  • That's perfect! I wish I had friends like you! I'm Norwegian and my husband is too. I love this movie. It's my favorite. I wish we lived in a town like that.

  • Beautiful!!! Sometimes it`s better to let the music do the talking!!! I love this movie every bit of it...

  • This is SO beautifull i thought i was getting old & cynical but this almost makes me weep like a bairn.

  • It is beautiful. Sorry to sound ignorant, but what is a bairn?

  • bairn is another word for child

  • That music sends shivers down my spine and the film is my all-time favourite!

  • being a friend.

  • Michael O'Sullivan was my great friend.

But I don't ever remember telling him that.

  • I sang at my wifes grandmothers funeral recently & i´d forgotten about this film but that line is right on the button. Its too late then.

  • Communion Lux aeterna luceat eis Domine: Let eternal light shine upon them, O Lord: Cum sanctis tuis in aeternum, quia pius es. with Thy saints for ever, for art merciful. Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine, Grant them eternal rest, O Lord, et lux perpetua luceat eis. and may light perpetual shine on them, Cum sanctis tuis in aeternum: in the company of Thy saints for evermore, quia pius es. because Thou art merciful.
  • thanks for uploading, its great music and a great film. this track reminds me of the walk to the church with this guy and his flute, but i found out that this is actually another track named "The Lotto Man Cometh". would it be possible to upload it, too? i cant get enough of this music.

  • Hmmm, yes...it wasn't the Lord's Prayer, I checked haha. Whatever she is singing sounds so incredibly familiar, I think I had heard it in Church or something...haha this is very intriguing for me. Thank you for posting the song!

  • It's a requiem, Part of a church service , a funeral service in Latin

    This is Mozarts Requiem.

The words are available if you look up Requiem mass Mozart.

  • I know she is singing latin, is this the Lord's Prayer? Sounds so familiar!

  • Not that my Latin is up to snuff, but I'd be inclined to say no, only because the Eternal Light lyric doesn't appear in the English (or any other modern tongue) version I'm aware of.

  • @FunkyardDogg trans: "eternal rest grant unto him O lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him"

  • @collegegirl1313

I know this is a very old post, but if you never found the trranslation, here it is:

Let eternal light shine on them, Lord,

as with Your saints in eternity,

    because You are merciful.

    Grant them eternal rest, Lord,

and let perpetual light shine on them,

as with Your saints in eternity,

    because You are merciful.

  • @collegegirl1313 My Latin is really rusty all I could get was the Lord bless thee and keep thee... sorry!

  • A masterpiece in every way. Whoever has not seen this film or listened to its soundtrack is that much poorer.

  • Watch the film, the scene where Ned's false teeth come out is hilarious. The reaction of the actors is so natural and spontaneous that it couldn't possibly have been scripted. So, so funny it brings tears to my eyes every time! Brilliant!

  • I loved this fil so much, thanks for posting

  • whatch the movie its hilarios just finished it a minute ago

  • This video really made me think of all the great friends who aren't here anymore. But thankful for the ones that are and optimistic about the ones who will be.

  • I love it! The music is breath taking!

"The words that are spoken at a funelar, is spoken too late for the man that is dead"

    That is so beautiful!

    Thanks alot!
