Jeez, I've never seen people argue so much about a song. I would have agree with myk however that it just doesn't work as a Bond song. I love all the themes (although All time high is a bit of a dodgy one), and while the song is perfect in the opening bars it disintegrates - not the song itself, I actually really like it - but as a Bond theme, it doesn't stay with you the same way. And I can see why it would be described as Mowtown as it certainly has the feel of a track they would release.
I knew some Bond themes had alternatives which had been considered and that this wasn't one of them. I really really like the original version of the music from OHMSS but I do think this tune works really well and the lyrics are also pretty good too and work with this film, though would probably do with a little tinkering to be more suitable.
Easily one of the best songs of the 1960s. You have proven that it would have made a great James Bond theme song. It's a perfect mix of desperation and determination. Friggin' fantastic!

are you crazy? the strings sound kind of bond theme style, but the rest of the tune is way too funky for a bond theme, this is pure soul/funk, bond themes are moody usually with lingering female vocals, compare this to Shirley Basseys - Goldfinger and you should know what i mean.
There's no need to be such a rude douche bag. I happen to think it works. It certainly works better than the actual boring theme song from OHMSS. Have you ever heard "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney & Wings or "A View to a Kill" by Duran Duran? Neither of these songs have "lingering female vocals" a la Shirley Bassey? This song is from the same era as OHMSS. It's not "pure" anything. Yes, it is soulful, but it's as much rock and jazz as it is soul. That's why it's still edgy.
sorry but there was nothing rude about the comment i made, no need 2 call me "douche bag" the first 20seconds certainly do work as a bond theme, but the rest is really upbeat, i've herd every bond theme and the ones you mentioned are nothing like this, this is funky, it suits shaft more than bond. its laughable that you can describe Frankie Valli & the four seasons as "rock" they were on Motown records, opposite of rock! get your ears tested and dont be so quick 2 throw rude comments about.
Implying that someone is crazy because they disagree with you, as you did, is most definitely rude. You said, "...bond themes are moody usually with lingering female vocals..." I mentioned "Live and Let Die" and "A View to a Kill" because they didn't fit your description, not because I thought they sounded like "Beggin'". Most people would have understood that. These two theme songs sound nothing like the Shirley Bassey or Lulu or Carly Simon or Sheena Easton theme songs.
Judging by your comment about Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons it has become clear to me that you must be a clueless 12 year old. The Four Seasons were formed in 1961 and had their first hit, "Sherry" in 1962. They didn't sign with Motown until 1971. That was 4 years after "Beggin'" was released. The few years they spent with Motown were largely unproductive because of a lack of support from that label. They were not a "soul" group. Most of their 1960's hits were pop/rock songs.
listen dude, your obviously tone death and truely out of touch with music, deal with it, but not with sarcasm, find ways, get out there and enjoy life in another way, but leave music to people who know. ok
Let me explain something to you genius, the Four Seasons are from my city. Frankie Valli is from my neighborhood. I grew up listening to their music. Don't try to school me you assface. You don't even know common figures of speach. The term is "tone deaf" not "tone death" jackass. But never mind tone death, you are obviously suffering from brain death. You started this so fuck off cunt.
i am actually dislexyic which is why i make mistakes in my writing, i can learn though, you on the other hand will be tone deaf for life, just be happy with it. their from your neighborhood?? wooww you must be some kind of bigshot, hands up from me you obviously know everything about him! fool! stay away from music, your hurting it!
"Tone death?" lolololololololol - Thanks, myk, I needed a good laugh today.
Your comment is 4 months old, so I'm wonderin' if, due to natural selection, you're still with us in 2009.
Don't blame being "tone death" on dyslexia. Let's call it what it is.....it's just you being an ignorant dumbass. And if you insist on being "dislexyic," the least you could do is learn how to spell it correctly.
And btw, I'm not tone deaf.....actually, I happen to have perfect pitch, peckerhead (*_~)
what the hell are you going on about? the comments i made are not directed at you you stupid freakshow! have you not red the whole debate? man you are dumb. and yes it was 4 months ago, so forget it dickhead
I DID read it all, myk. You didn't address ANYTHING that RexVox said, i.e. "The Four Seasons were formed in '61 and had their first hit, 'Sherry' in '62. They didn't sign with Motown until '71. That was 4 years after 'Beggin' was released. The few years they spent with Motown were largely unproductive because of a lack of support from that label. They were not a 'soul' group. Most of their 60's hits were POP/ROCK songs."
Btw, DyslexicBoy, learn the difference between "your" and "you're" lol
GrandMasterMaceo - Whew, quite a name for someone with such a small intellect. What's it like being afflicted with megalomania?
I wasn't making fun of dyslexia. I ridiculed myk for making dumb spelling mistakes that had nothing to do with dyslexia, which he uses as an excuse for every shortcoming in his life.
If you read and understood the comments between myk and RexVox, you would have understood that myk is a know-nothing pompous ass who blames dyslexia for everything.
Admittedly he made some minor spelling mistakes, who cares. You are making a fuss over something so trivial.
Obviously you don't spend enough time on the internet if you haven't learnt by now that most people on the internet don't care about spelling and grammar. This is something I'm also somewhat pissed off at.
Oh, and I'd prefer it if you wouldn't make such silly (and uninsulting) assumptions about me, someone you haven't as yet to meet.
GrandMasterMaceo, you fool. What's it like having Megalomania and being afflicted with delusions of grandeur?
I should have stopped posting comments to you when I realized that you're too stupid to understand that this isn't a spelling issue. If you had something to think with between those ears, you would know that.
I'm not too stupid to realise that this isn't a spelling issue, just lazy.
You were insulting peoples spelling, so I thought I'd work out that first. Once I had finnished, there were nowhere near enough 'remaining characters' left to get back to the main agruement.
You know, if you had actually looked at my first comment you'd have noticed that I didn't say anything insulting to you or to the dyslexic guy.
Oh and who cares what 'RexVox' said, his account no longer exsists here anyway!
This song is sensational, also it seems to suit the credits well. Im a big fan of Lazenby despite the stick he seems to get. The more time goes on, the more people are beginning to realize just how good OHMSS is. Such a shame he didn't make any more. People say it would have been better with Connery in it, i can't agree with that even though i like Sean too.
I like Lazenby as Bond. THe first guy to do the part after Connery was set up to be hated. Connery didnt want to to anymore after You Only Live Twice in 67, hence why Lazenby got the role. Connery came back in 71because Lazenby's agent told Saltzman and Broccoli that he didnt want to do anymore trying to get a long term high price deal from the producers. It didnt work. so UA gave Connery a huge deal for one more and then came Roger Moore in 73 for Live and Let Die.
Al Broccoli and Harry Saltzman made two BIG mistakes on OHMSS--not using Sean Connery as 007 and not using The Four Seasons' "Beggin'" as the theme song.
Funny coincidence- it's my favorite Bond movie and my favorite Four Seasons song! THanks!

Oh my god, are you actually making fun of the spelling of a Dyslexic? Do you even know what Dyslexia is? My lord, this is humorous.
Oh and for the record, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons are a Pop, Rock, and Disco band.
Although they also had a sound somewhat reminiscent of doo-wop, but they were never thought of as a doo wop quartet.
