I had a similar issue at the very same corner at Thunderhill during a NASA AI race, once I knew I was taking to the dirt I just straightline the car and got off throttle, hit the very same ditch you did (which launch my car 2 feet in the air) ... I was able to get back on track and didn't lose too many positions ... but sadly that ditch caused my fan belt to jump off and I continued to race which ultimately caused a motor melt down without water being pumped thru the car.
Hey man, I also think you did everything you can do......specially I heard the engine sound continue while sliding until actual crash. I saved my over steering in front wheel drive car by applying more gas, but if it is too fast, I can't do anything about it.
Thank you for sharing, and hope all the best to you. The information you sharing for track day is very valuable, specially the seat belt trick.....that is totally awsome.
Dude there was nothing else you could do , I watched it many times, you did every thing possile, but sadly the car didnt stay on the road. maybe your car couldnt handle such speed or maybe your car is too light, or you had bad tires. but it wasnt your fault at all. I hope your didnt heart your self, and i hope this kind of accidents never hapens to any one.
@colinlucas thunder hill is in sac?i've always thought it was in socal?that place doesnt even look like sac.wow.i never knew.I gotta check that place out. :)
It was actually the most relaxing crash ive been in. Sliding to a stop is much better than hitting a wall :) The car got a new roof and was back in action in a few months.
You just didn't catch the slide early enough.
