NBA rules may differ from FIBA rules. Also not sure why this is a big debate, this is clearly over and back. All Starks had to do is land with his two feet in the front court and he'd be fine.
If you're in the front court and going to the backcourt with the ball in your hands, it's a backcourt violation. Even if your little toe is in the front court, it's still going to be called every time.
To all of those that say "but FIBA *blahblahblah*", FIBA basketball=/=NBA by a long shot.
i read up about this rule. according to current FIBA rules, that should not have been called a violation. they have allowed a special exception for the backcourt violation ruling saying the players position is determined by where he lands, not takes off from.
yes but he didn't establish position on the backcourt, thus he was in no courts? if that was possible, so the rules rule that he was last established in the front court, caught the ball in the air w/out establishing himself in the backcourt, then went into backcourt. thus backcourt violation.
@2008sALINAs i kno its 3 years old but he jumped from front court, caught the ball, then landed in the backcourt. if he had gotten past the line before he touched the ball then it wouldn't have been called
I've learned something today

doesn't care was his feet in air or in frontcourt, he jumped from it in order to catch the ball in backcourt. And that IS violation.
