  • l got turbo envy

  • So awesome!!!

  • drove a d7G at Robina on the Gold Coast and Brisy Airport early "80's" was a good machine

  • LOVERLY!

  • now thats getting some work done with that behemoth

  • power by cat

  • yes it has a pony .you can see it

  • wonder how many pony springs that rake broke??

  • I love the whistle it makes

  • I think it needs more fuel delivery because smoke was a little black. The sound of the turbo would be more louder and power too.

  • whistlin 7. very nice. would be perfect with the blade off and a sideboom put on it.

  • is it pony motor started?

  • Sadly, I can't tell you. Next time I run into the fella and I think off it, I'll try to remember to ask. Don't be in a hurry.

  • @flyingscrapyard yeah it does use a pony motor as stated by you in the comment about it being out of commission cause the pilot motor needs repair (pony motor)

  • @floodedcar123 I,d say it is cause there is a little muffler sticking up through the hood. Also anything with a cable blade and a hand clutch probably has one.

  • nice dozer

  • Fantastic video. It made me smile. Love the retro dozer, track squeaks, and turbo whistle. As if back in time. Thanks for sharing..

  • I ran 17A's, 7E's, D8H's on No 70, 435 and 463 scrapers as well as dozers. Some later 17A's were turbocharged. Loved them all but could hear that damn turbo in my sleep. Am fairly deaf as a result.

  • These machines would do nearly 2 days work on a 44 of diesel, and they were long days. The usual daylight to dark work days. I loved the sound of the turbo whistling, I wish I had the money to buy one just to start it up for the sound!

  • The other 17A had a rear winch and the cable ran around the side and over a front sheave, and the 3t had overhead cable. Both of these were far better to operate than the front winch. The 3T, if I remember correctly, could out pull the 17As, because it would just keep pulling until the motor was barely ticking over but the others died in the arse once they lost their revs.

  • 17A was the first turbo version wasn't it?

  • I think so, but wouldn't be 100% sure of that.

  • The rake was quite wide, not sure the size but it was heavy enough to make the machine stand on the front of the tracks when it was lifted. The blade would fall so quickly that you had to be right on the ball to let the lever go at the right time or 20 feet of cable would play out of the winch and get tangled. Fortunately he was a hoarder and had tons of old lift cables out of high rise buildings, because I destroyed plenty for him.

  • Mate, I drove a few of these back in about '82, between Moonie and Dalby in Qld. Place called The Belahs. He had 3 of these, two 17As and a 3T. The 17A that I drove had a front winch driven directly off the front of the crank and was so direct it took a lot of getting the hang of.

  • great sound, sounds familiar like my dads old 1 are you around from a town called whittlesea?bcoz that land and dozer look extremely like my dads b4 he actioned it off

  • Whittlesea as in north of Melbourne? Sorry, this 'dozer is in central Queensland so has traveled quite a way if it was the same machine.

I saw the owners son today as it happens and he said this one is out of commission at the moment waiting to get the pilot motor fixed. Thanks for your visit.

  • i got one but it has wet stearing clutchs, not many of them left , 14a d8s were the best ,better than the new ones,

  • 17 a for sure still think the 7 e series are awsome had a cousin who put a turbo on a 3t once

  • hey wow, is that a turbo 17a? that is too cool, cable even. man, i would rather have a 50 year old cat than any brand X.please tell me about this tractor. thanks.

  • Sorry, I don't know what series it is. It's supposed to be one of the early turbo models but I'm not up with all the models. The tractor belongs to the father of a fella who I used to work with. I haven't seen him for a few years. I believe this series tractor was commonly nicknamed "Whistlers" for fairly obvious reasons. This one does sound good though, doesn't it?

  • Great sound and quality 5 stars.

  • Thanks. Glad you got something out of it. The sound came out better than I expected but you never can tell in advance. There used to be a bloke in town who put a turbo kit on his Land-cruiser that made it sound just like the D7. It would take a little while to wind up. Thanks for visiting.

  • Great sights and sounds.

    5 stars
