@kavtoM This Anne does not fit the description that Jane Austen gave the charachter in the book. Anne was persuaded twice out of marriage by her aunt and the impression from the book is that one of a timid, humble and meek characher. This Anne is proud, head-strong and confident. Not that there is anything wrong with these qualities, but they are not at all the charahterics of someone who is easily swayed. But then again, diferrent people have different interpretations.
@nyambush11 I think you're confusing Persuasion with Mansfield Park. The Anne Elliot Jane Austen depicted is centered & wise, with strong opinions--definitely not meek & timid. Her maturity has made her philosophical. The others turn to her as a mentor; and in crises, like Louisa Musgrove's accident, Anne's the one who keeps her head and quietly takes charge. The later dramatizations ignore that, and instead rely on Cinderella stereotypes. Fanny Price, on the other hand, IS timid.
I wonder if you have ever watched the 1983 BBC adaptation of Mansfield Park. It is the closest to the book that i have ever seen, but its interpretation of Fanny makes her come off as dull and stupid. Also Mrs Betram's charachter has been extremely exaggerated. Jane Austen charachterises her als lazy and stupid, but she is extremely exaggerated.
In general, i prefer the older adaptations compared to the modern ones.
@nyambush11 Yes, I agree that the 1983 Mansfield Park is the most accurate, and one of my favorite Austen dramatizations. I'm not sure why they made Mrs. Bertram so infantile, though!
I love this Anne!
