  • can you make a video of you playing the Tube Screamer and the OCD together?

  • My ears tell me that the OCD is the winner and last place goes to the tubescreamer.

  • @MultiScoffer They're different in tone so how can we say which is better? It depends on your preference.

  • @BelovedOnE53 Didn't I state, My ears " ? So, therefore the OCD is my preference.,

  • yup...this is a tough one. I NEVER use my OCD with the tone like that. You gotta start somewhere I guess when comparing Ovr Drvs

  • Hey JB wheres CAGE.

  • how much is the luther drive

  • His voice is the same of Mike Portnoy!!!

  • that paint job on the luther is prime

  • Vc tem os melhores videos, parabens!

  • I couldn't watch this due to GMD wearing shoes!! Is rock dead forever?!

  • hmmm... they sound way too bassy, exactly what my mxr gt-od does. which I don't like at all!

  • this guys voice sounds exactly like Jack Black's...lol COOMINEEYAYHAH

  • OCD = On campus suspension :D

  • too bad YouTube compression takes back some of the quality... But great demo thx!

  • Gearmanndude IS the lead guitar player for the El Roostars out of Louisville Ky, met him several times!!! Great sound man!!

  • It would be amazing if you did a demo for the vox ice 9 overdrive by joe satriani!!! =D

  • SO HOW DO WE ORDER A LUTHER DRIVE PEDAL?? A WEBSITE FOR THEM?? THANKS

  • GMD, I appreciate all the time you take to demo all the pedals you do, but very unfair shootout. Never met anyone who gigged with their o.d/distortion pedal tone knob set to 0. Doesnt mean they don't exist, but c'mon. Even as a booster, tone knobs are rarely set to 0. Maybe redo shootout with the pedals being utilized as they should be, overdrive and distortion. If i wanted a booster pedal, I wouldn't be looking at any of these. Anyways, I enjoy your vids and thanks 4 all your posts.

  • @Live4TodaySoCal

Maybe I think its more fair to set everything at 12.that's the natural sound of the pedals.

  • sounds like the ocd's not meant to run with that setting (or maybe you like mumbling sounds)

  • it seems only the maxon comes close to the luther with that settings

  • yes!

all sound crap because of the shoes!

  • I liked GMD's pedal the best:)

  • I think all the pedals lose, gear man dude has the wrong shoes on for this shoot out to count

  • i think ocd is best

  • OCD should be on Low Peak for rolling off the tone more vol for amp push

It gains up well but also has a darker tone you can get like Trower and using the Fat Boost. The Luther just kicks ass all the time. What is in that puppy? The OCD continues to be popular because it cannot be screwed up no matter how one uses it

  • Jack black :-)

  • It's weird but all of the pedals sound pretty good with the tone set at 0. How about a demo with tone set at 5?

  • OCD FTW!

  • has no one played a reissue ts808? that luther is too treblely for the knob on ZERO jesus and sounds just like a ts808 on flat settings. not impressed.

  • The OCD sounds more like a fuzz than an OD. Personally, I think this shootout end up being a tie between the OD808 and the Luther Drive for my favorites. The Analogman pedal sounds a bit muddy and I'm just not a fan of the OCD's tone. The Maxon and the Luther Drive just sound a lot more articulate and open.

  • I love the Maxon 808.. best pedal on my board!

  • So what is the main difference between a Distortion, overdrive, and fuzz pedal? Fuzz is a little more obvious, but there are some nuances in over drive and distortion that i can't put my finger on.. Maybe if someone knows the actual way the technology works and what it does to the signal? That might help me.

  • I've heard an OCD and there is no way I would use it with the tone already rolled off; slightly darker pedal and I would have the tone rolled up to about 7. Is a nice pedal. Luther seems sweet also.

  • I've gotta say the Luther Drive sounds amazing! By far the two best are the TS9 and the Luther, I think the Luther is better overall, but I have always been a sucker for my TS9...might just have to get both! ;)

  • Luther drive ,,,,,, easy

  • the more i hear the luther drive the more my life seems incomplete without one.... damn

  • damn I like the OCD, but it got crushed. might have to buy me a luther drive

  • Love the Luther drive sounds like SRV all the way!

  • luther drive was deffiently the best but id have liked to se a ts808 in the mix too

  • I think he should do it agian, put on the snakeskins and perhaps use that left foot a little bit. Luther drive was my fav. Analog 2nd and the Maxon 3rd. I dont much care for that Ocd. I guess if someone gave me one, id like it. As a paperweight.

  • I'm disappointed. No snakeskin boots? All the mojo is gone!! Perhaps you're an imposter...

  • Settin all the knobs the same may seem to be a good starting point, but then you should start setting them to their inividual sweet spots. If I set my OCD v.1 and MEK Tube Drive TD-1 (German TS 808 clone) the same, it doesn't do the TD justice, because the OCD is way louder and has much more treble. To get a similar sweet sound out of both pedals with nearly the same volume, amount of overdrive and treble, I have to set the pedals quite different! OCD v9-t10-d2 / TD v2-t12-d2 (clock positions)

  • @bluesderek

Wondering if you used the HP or LP setting more often? (kind of depends on amp and guitar too, I suppose)

i used HP for most the time at first, it sounded aggressive and raw..I loved it! One time I accidentally flipped it to LP and quickly turned up the vol to compensate(it was on stage, of course I didnt know I hit the switch) and Wow! Sustain and smooth distortion for daaays!! :-)

  • @disissanchy (1) It really depends A LOT on guitars and amps. I used to run my strat through the OCD v.1 into a Peavey classic 30 with JJ tubes and the OCD really brought the Peavey to life. I used the lead channel of the Peavey without the boost engaged and the gain set low and set the OCD to HP and lower gain, too (10-11). LP sounded too thin and woolly even with volume and gain turned up.

  • @disissanchy (2) Now I have a Crate V3112 (USA version with Tone Tubby 40/40 ceramic speaker) and the OCD doesn't like this amp very much. My main overdrive by now is a Xotic BB, again with the preamp set quite low (9-10), but sometimes I run the OCD before the BB to give it an extra kick and that works very nicely. - My lesson from this is, there is no "best pedal ever". Like a good cook you have to use quality products and the art is in how you match them and how you use them

  • @bluesderek

Thanks for the insight!! It is INCREDIBLY important to consider your guitar/amp preferences when using any pedal..when using a Strat, I keep the HP up as well, but I primarily use a 70's Greco w/ Maxon 'buckers, so I could see how HP turned out to be a bit too aggressive to my ears. My amps are a Twin Reverb and Flextone III, each set spanky clean (I play Funk Jam Rock...lotsa wah-wah action!) and I also use a Keeley BD-2 after the OCD for a FAT sound bump..always great results!

  • Turn the tone knob on that OCD up and let it wail... it easily has the most range out of any of those pedals

  • I just got my pedal today, this thing is BAD ASS!!! It took my Vox AC30 to new levels. thanks GMD Rock on !!!

  • where do i go to buy the luther drive pedal?

  • The Luther kicks ass. Clear, round fat tubey gooey crunchiness. GREAT DEMO>(all demos should follow the exact format). I'm in love with my ORIGINAL '81 TS-9 (serial number indicates it's nearly the prototype run) and count on it as my baby. I had an OCD for a week and returned it. it was nice. but not useful enough to me to spend the bills.

Yours I'd love to have in my chain as a distinct flavor. Great work and I hope you sell a ton.

  • Your pedal sounds the best.

  • have you tried the byoc od-2? i want to see how these compare...

  • pretty sure he said one time it is a byoc

  • yea this is the old byoc od pcb modified to taste

  • I vote Luther. What a badass!

  • is it me but I swear the overdrive pedals sounds best with the strat...do get me wrong the sg is nice....I guess it's all in prefrence...I like your pedal and the Ibanez tube screamer the best....Love the Hubert Sumlin riffs here and there...peace

  • different shoes!

  • Why don't you ever show your mug??

  • Where do you pull all your riffs and licks from? Awesome Luther pedal too btw.

  • i like the modded od-9 or your pedal i can't make up my mind

  • dont you have this one but with more treble to se where it can get?... i like it.. how much are you selling them?

    thanks

  • sounds like jack black

  • man, lovin the OD808 and Luther!! add &fmt=18 at the end of the url for higher quality vid (if you don't use Yousabletube or have your prefs set to high qual)

  • Damn man, that Luther Drive is a great sounding pedal. So smooth and transparent. Nice pedal man. Well done. Sounds fucking great.

  • well, I don't see why you've put all the pedals with the tone knob at zero..

Usually the tone knob goes to 12,00 o'clock to be as transparent as possible. Maybe on your pedal the neutral sound is set at zero but it doesn't wotk that way for the other three pedals you compared.. no use of making such a comparison.

  • All this comparison tells is that the Luther pedal has more treble than all the others when the tone is set to zero. I would never use my OCD tone set on zero.

  • Rock on! Really like my OD to be treble heavy, only because it takes it over the top with a band...tone knobs are completely personal to each player

    ROCK

    GMD

  • @gearmanndude Yeah but bassy OD With delay while tremolo sounds godly.

  • @iulenny if you still have an OCD, would you say that the OCD has the smoothest distortion overtones that you have ever heard ? and that the even order harmonics are really beautiful.....ie musical ?

  • @rhykko77 Funny thing, I honestly haven't heard that sound through a video clip, but playing it on many different amps and stages, the OCD sounds EXACTLY as you describe. I also have a Keeley BD-2 set as clean vol. bump after it (no gain, Level-> 1oclock Tone barely up) and BAM! pushes that sound "up front" and fattens it up for lead lines.

    I'm trying out a TS9 this weekend in the mix too....maybe I'll update :)

    oh..and GMD effin' ROCKS!!!!!!

  • Best sound is without any pedals.

    Very good demo though. Thanks

  • dude, the luther sounds amazing. i have the od808 and ocd.

    now i want the LUTHER!!!!!

  • do you sell your pedals
