The only way you can rightfully kill another human is to maintain your own life. Only if you're threatened with death may you retaliate, and kill. If someone is in your house, it doesn't mean that your life is in jeopardy. A person running away in fear of their life is not a threat to your own life. You may not kill in these circumstances. If you can disable a person without killing, you can live with yourself more peacefully. "Thou Shalt Not Kill"
luckily the castle doctrine has been lifted in some states here just recently. it would also mean that u must "run or flee before using excessive force outside of your home" which i think is stupid. im gunna go straight for my Springfield XD 45 ; )
not everybody is up for the idea of killing, but this is a VERY effective method. only when the home owner is aware there is activity going on. for that you should get a real home security system (doesn't have to have service. just something to make noise to wake you up)
One other thing to add. Gun owners have the unfortunate burden of being "pocket lawyers." There's too many traps to fall into if you own, plan to own, carry, shoot, transport, or even think about guns. Talk to a gun owner...you'll find they've spent waaaayyy too much time making sure they stay on the good side of the law.
@amorituri what if every body that broke in was armed and ready to kill everyone then would it be excessive force, your another jackass in society we have a right to defend ourselfes and if someone breaks into my house im going to either break their legs and wait untill the cops come or kill them which ever comes first
That 2nd amendment thing you Americans have is awesome!
I mean, where i live if you are a cop, and you get shot and still manage to shoot back the assailant and wound him - not kill - just wound, you'd probably go to jail due to excessive use of force. It's ridiculous even to think of a civilian trying to defend himself in same circonstances. He'd probably face life imprisonment.
If it where me though i would care about jail later. First i would grind anyone trying to break in my house into dust

The state of Ohio has what's called "castle doctrine". I'll explain:
Bad guy breaks into good guy's house.
Good guy shoots and/or kills bad guy.
The presumption of innocence is with the good guy.
Bad guy may not sue (if he lives).
Bad guy's family may not sue.
Good guy shall not be charged with any crime unless a separate crime has been commited (ie good guy is high on drugs or something).
Bottom line? Ohio (or any other state w/ castle doctrine) is not a friendly place for bad guys.
