I was a young lad of 13-14 in 1970, and this psychedelic heavy metal wave rocked & ruled the world for only a brief time of about 40+ years give or take a few breaks... lol
I saw Sabbath circa Nov 1970 in Va. Beach at the Dome...Ozzy was wearing vampire teeth...Iron Butterfly I saw 1968 Greenville, NC at ECU and again in 1970 at Hampton Roads
This is wonderful. the styles, the music, the raw energy, the cohesion, and as one of the other comments said, the sheer fun they had, never mind if they were tripping at the time. A much better time to live in, methinks. Too young to appreciate it at the time, but remember the summer of 1970 well, lovely summer it was in london. regards, derek
You say Pop-I scream Heavy Metal!!You say hanah montana-i hit you in the face 92% of teenagers have turned to Hip Hop and Pop.If you are part of the 8% that still listen to real music, copy and paste this message to another 5 videos. DON'T LET THE SPIRIT OF ROCK DIE
You ain't got a million hits on your offering?? What The Fuck!! This is the perfect combo...40 years old and quality motherfuckin' audio and video. WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE
This is simply the best version of Sabbath playing Paranoid on Youtube....young, fresh, intense, innocent.....with no sense that it would become a "classic"
Funny how Sabbath gets the honor of "inventing" heavy metal in 1970, seeing as how Led Zeppelin I & II were released in 1969. Deep Purple in Rock was also 1970, as was Grand Funk Railroad.
The roots of this sound? IMHO...The Cream. Listen to side 2 of Fresh Cream, or Wheels of Fire. They were the first to direct the post-psychedelic "heavy rock" sound. The secret ingredient? Jazz. Cream was where jazz and rock began to mutate, leading to Miles Davis fusion and Tommy Iommi riffs.
@gamesDAMNED Clearly you have your opinion as stated here. Perhaps food for thought which is my opinion. The gods, the fallen ones are where these forms of music originate. These gentlemen were used to bring about as it were, music and it's form derived or coming forth from these ones. But this is merely my opinion.
Black Sabbath's the best! The main source of all Rock Metal bands that been born. (based on my experience.) Is there any Metal Band earlier that Black Sabbath? What did the people say in 1970 about Black Sabbath? Why do old people today only knows Beatles & Elvis?
@frostmourne21 Budgie from wales started around the same time. Dont knowwho got in first. Great 3 piece band too.check them out,on vid on utube One great number Budgie Breadfan .its live in a studio . As you will see the original versions are best.
@frostmourne21 well,.. some people would argue that led zeppelin was the first metal band, i dont personally think thats the case, they certainly layed the cruical foundations, it was from their sound which sabbath took influence, along with the fact that iommi had to down tune his guitar because of his missing fingers - thus creating that very low-pitched doom sound,... but yeh sabbath took it to a new level and created METAL
@frostmourne21 If you consider Led Zeppelin metal, than they were before Black Sabbath? Zeppelin's first album was in 1969. Also, Deep Purple's first album was in 1968, I believe. I don't consider Zeppelin metal, but I do consider Deep Purple metal, so Deep Purple is the first (and one of the best) metal bands!
@CMD9889 You're right, first Purple's album is from 1968, but I think you can't take the first two years as "heavy", but after "In Rock" from 1970, before that, most of them is covers in a pop/psychoadelic mood. Whatever, IMHO, Sabbath is the beggining of heavy metal.
@frostmourne21 Because the old people were just listening to mainstream music. Sabbath is hard rock or heavy metal. Most people listen to mainstream music.
@frostmourne21 Yeah true! Im 14 years old and I LOVE heavy metal and all that... but the old people listens to Elvis and Beatles (as I also like)!!! BUT SABBATH IS BEST!!!!
were they high in the beggining?
