  • What labs develop 500t?

  • @DanGoedeker There is a slew of them in the U.S., but the ones I have used are Cinelab in MN, Spectra Film and Video in CA, and Pac Labs in NYC.

  • @x05e Thanks for the help, and keep up the good work. Your videos are great.

  • My uncle just gave me a Canon Super 8 Auto Zoom 814. It's in mint condition and came with the case. I know nothing about this camera. Wonder what kind of kool stuff I can do with it. My uncle was dying of cancer and he gave the camera 2 weeks before he passed.

  • @klpinvestments The Canon 814 AZ requires two separate batteries for the auto exposure meter. They are called Wein Cells and can be bought here: wwwDOTweincellDOTcom..model no. MRB625..you will need two. Or you can also get them at B&H Photo. The Canon 814 AZ Electronic uses 4 AA batts and does not need them. Check to see which is your camera. Both cameras can use all of the S8 films available today, but you'll have to decide if you just want to project it or have it transferred.

  • @x05e Thanks a bunch. I think it is the electronic one. There is a compartment for 4 AA batteries.

  • Looks fantastic! I've been shooting reversal but I am really itching to try this negative stock. How did you create a positive image? Is it as simple as inverting colors or do you have to do more advanced color correcting? Do most telecine places do this? A few questions but thanks for any input you have!

  • @silber99 Many thanks!! For negatives I have a friend who is starting up a transfer business, so he does the initial transfer and inversion, then I get it in digital form and colorize it further. All telecine places do this, but have different pricing, from a basic one light transfer, to a scene by scene color correcting transfer, to a supervised transfer where you sit with them and tell them what you like..this option being the most costly.

  • Again, this is some great looking footage and you're using a Canon 310! I haven't seen a Beaulieu with an Angenieux lens take footage like this. If you have the manual for the Canon, see what the shutter speed is at whatever fps you shot this. 18 or 24. I'd be curious to know how far off it is from my Beaulieu! A lot I'd bet. A whole lot! Great looking stuff!

  • @MREVANURY The 310Xl only shoots at 18fps (bummer), with a 220 degree shutter angle = 29.45 shutter speed. It also has an F1.0 lens. Thanks for the comments. really. I love using this little camera with high speed film, and every time I think I'm going to get underexposed images it proves me wrong!

  • Great stuff! How did you meter 500t in the Bauer? I have a Bauer 209 XL S but it only reads up to 160 ASA. How can I get it to meter 500t Vision3 super 8?

  • Ooooh this is niiiiiice! Love the bridge shots at night with all the lights! I shot something similar at Christmas using 64T and wondered why on earth it didn't expose! Now I know I need a faster film.

  • @joannelou1 Many thanks! Using an XL camera with this stock definitely helped, though I did cheat a bit by running the bridge shots at 9fps.

  • warning: i dont know what im talking about

im looking at getting a super8 camera and want one that would be good in conditions with low light. so i figured that vision 500t would be the best film to use.

im looking at a canon 310xl that you said you used here but i read that "The Canon 310XL instruction manual states that the meter understands 3 film speeds: 40T, 160T, and 250T" did you have to modify it to shoot on this kind of film?

  • @MatthewMalone Yes I needed to notch-hack the cart so that this cam reads it at 250ASA instead of 160. Now reading it at 250 means it is one stop overexposed from 500 (Kodak sets it up this way). One stop overexposed helps the film with graininess and such. If this sounds confusing PM me and I can explain a lot more. Thanks!

  • Hi. In the description you said you used a DIY telecine. Did you just project it and film it with a digital camera, or is there another process?

  • It was telecined with a transfer unit bought on Ebay almost two years ago.

  • I just wrote you a personal message ... if you have the chance please check out your inbox ... I'd love to work with you on a professional project ... You seem very passionate and talented!

  • i love your work

  • Hey many thanks for that Anthony! I've thought of giving it up and going back to video, but I just can't do it!! I still enjoy HD for some stuff though.

  • @x05e

Hey x05e! I'm right with you.on this! I just can't give up the film look! I have tried to convince myself to go HD digital but can't. Especially after seeing this! Thanks for the inspiration! The hell with the HD shit! Great work! Thanks again. Peace!

  • Love this! Were you shooting at 24fps?

  • Thanks...hadn't looked at this in some time and I enjoyed that evening very much along with the next day at the carnival. I MISS summer! This was entirely shot in 18fps.

  • ...Except for the bridge parts. Ran it at 9fps to get more light.

  • ya i saw that you mentioned that, plus you can tell by the cars zooming across haha

  • How do you get such a sharp Telecine DIY, are you just projecting and Telecine with a HD camera?

    Chris

  • Hi Chris:

I use a telecine machine I bought off Ebay about a year and a half ago..it's a direct knockoff of the Cinemate model from MoviestuffDOTtv.

  • so the camera you used is the "CANON 310 XL" right?

  • Correct, except for the bridge shots, which I used the Bauer for some timelapse sequences and other taken at 9fps.

  • this stock is so cool!

  • Hi, did you develope and telecine this yourself? If so how? It looks good.

  • I telecined it, but the dveloping was from Spectra Film & Video in North Hollywood.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks, yes I inverted in post and did not use any daylight filter.

  • did you edit in film or tranfer it to something else. And what was your end medium before putting it on you tube. looks Great!

  • I transferred to my NLE (Sony Vegas), converted to a WMV, then posted it here, Thanks!
