  • I remember listening to this as a 10 year old. I had most of the lyrics wrong lol.

  • she's totally amazing, i loved her singing this at the x factor

  • I love her style....Her vocal range is incredible.

  • she wears underwears with dick-holes in em.

  • Many plays of this song with my wonderful friends and lovers in the 90's tried to figure out what the lyrics were during our great gay nights in Washington DC snorting coke and enjoying life. Great memories with friends and lovers. Man, we were having fun....

  • Great job with the Video.

  • no description needed

  • What do you guys think she means when she says "an unfortunate slight" ?

  • @cherrypieinthesky1 "Someone who means little or nothing to me though it is not your fault."

  • @cherrypieinthesky1 Well, when you slight someone, you do something mean on purpose. So I guess she is uninvited in whatever to wherever, and that the person or "perception" doing the inviting, slighted her on purpose, uninvited her on purpose, just to be mean. However, the word unfortunate denotes a bit of an apology of sorts, which contrasts with slight which is intentional and unapologetic, so she must be seeing this slight as unfortunate, not the one slighting her....

  • @PlanTonto what, have you got none wherever it is you are?? So what if she is anyway

  • @PlanTonto how is she a dyke ? she's straight .. she even dated Ryan Reynolds for awhile... dipshit

  • @rcloud7 OMG that was my idiotic roomate who wrote that. He went through my favorites folder. I will try to find and delete. I think she is absolutely wonderful and this song is so, so powerful. I love her, and I don't think she is either...geez, I am REALLY sorry!!!!

  • love this song.....

  • is this song about a rapist?

  • @TheColossall Yep

  • @clotz74 interesting, do you know where inspiration to write this song came from?

  • @TheColossall I thought when she was around 13 or so someone in a position who helped her along the way in her career, also helped themselves to her sexually when she was young and easy to manipulate into keeping quiet...and only years later she spoke out..anyone else ever hear of that or am I thinking of someone else?

  • @mrsmissfit1 I think you are definately mistaken

  • @rcloud7 well that could be

  • @TheColossall how the hell did you get that? lay off the crack for real

  • @rcloud7 oh im sorry i didnt realize that this song, or music itself for that matter, wasnt open for interpretation and that anybody who had a different opinion than you is on crack. my mistake

  • I want to write a letter to Alanis and thank her. I am a writer and this song along with Not as We from her latest albums flipped switches in my head and got me working again. The stories are not exactly in line with the songs but I could see the scenes in my head set to the songs. So yeah, THANKS!

  • wow.this kinda blew me away. Im now kinda in love with Alanis.

  • My indoor color guard is doing this song for our show, I'm so happy about it!

  • I am so glad i was named after a powerful woman

  • I did a drama do this song at my church and i was like ".....O: ...." WHOAH

  • Anyone know what she meant (or have an idea) by "to watch shephard meet shephard"?

  • shepherd * But I love this song! It is very powerful

  • thank god for lyrics cause ive loved the song but have never understood it tiill now..lol

  • They sung the HELL out of this song at the show in Six Flags!!!

  • for some reason this song to me child neglect. A child is indirectly saying to his parent 'you won't get through to the core of me. That part is sealed off'. A sort of revenge fantasy almost. The shadow side speaking out. The anger. Neglect. Hurt. So the child releases himself away from his parents. He survives alone in a mental fantasy as a way of survival. It probably doesn't mean that at all. My view is a very personal one I guess.

  • @TheNadakan . . . . . . i thought it was about a fan, . . . . perhaps . . . . someone who is able to read her thoughts through her music . . . . she truly reached someone . . . . aaaggghhh, but wait, he does cocaine. . . . . sorry dude just a rule. Alanis wont waste time trying to love a person who wont love themselves.

  • @TheNadakan really? If thats what you got from this ...you need therapy

  • @rcloud7 Well such is a coincidence rcloud, because I am in therapy. Booyeah! Right back at you.

  • @TheNadakan I thought it was about a stalker rapist. I guess I need therapy too.

  • if i was a fly I'd be all over alanis, cause alanis is the SHIT.

  • the music for this song is haunting..... I love it

  • nə zor oxuyur ala

  • The song is from the sound track to the movie "City of Angels" and in this movie an actual angel falls in love with a female character in the movie. She fell in love with him as well, but did not know he was an angel and when she found out...well, that's the explanation of the lyrics to this song. Btw, I love that movie!

  • Best song she ever did...

  • I don't understand this song. I love it but I don't get why he is not allowed. Anyone care to take a moment to deliberate ???

  • @tapegirl2378 Its either about how:

    1. A secret admirer has just confessed feeling to her and expects Alanis to move into a relationship with him/her and Alanis is saying "Who do think you are?"

    2. A person is showing interest in her, but doesn't like her and Alanis is angry that she is falling in love with this person.

    3. A romeo-juliet style romance where the two lovers cannot be together

I'd like to think its the first one, but the 2nd and 3rd meanings are also possible

  • @tapegirl2378, my guess is she specifically wrote the song for the movie "City of Angels". An angel in the movie (Nicholas Cage) fell in love with a mortal woman (Meg Ryan) She fell in love w/him too, but didn't know he was an angel...and when she found out, she was livid. Good movie....I liked it so much that I bought it. There are a few great songs in the soundtrack to the movie.

  • 11 people are uninvited

  • simply beautiful

  • my favourite part are the first two lines. alanis singing always reminds me of riversong from doctor who. Anyone else?

  • @KittyRiaT I do! So true.

  • Creepy

  • If you love music, you love this song and it's message. I remember the movie and it fit so well. But, if you experience this, it is on a another level. Sometimes you can find the "perfect song".

  • What am I invited to?

  • Alanis can read my mind...she can describe feeling beyond my imagination... I like her a lot just Like I like Adele!!! they are both great writers.!!! and singers too!

  • scary..lol

  • @ThisIsDonnieMusic ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

  • lyrick bagus...suaranya luar biasa.....4 jempol

  • Alanis is such a powerful woman...

  • nuostabi daina...

  • @bandet888...to watch the movie, you would get that message but would you still have the same feeling if you just heard the song. I do agree with you though. A friend of mine had not seen the movie and to him the song was about people who are shunned and made to feel like outsiders because of looks, viewpoints, etc even though they are people just like you and me.

  • he-he

  • I can't see the dislike button.

  • I remember buying the City of Angels soundtrack from one of those companies that have those sticky stamp like things that you sent in to get a few cassettes (Yes it was that long ago) for free or for very little money. I never played any other song but this one...

  • None of the radio stations where I live play any of her songs! :'( For anyone with me, let's protest XD

  • @wutitizzzz u can listen to my107.9 online here from Indiana and they play it all the time :-)

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • ohhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!it's amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful song <3

  • i completely undstand what u mean...this minor tunes in this row...in fact a heavy composition:)

  • What a fascinating song, just beautiful!

  • this was a great song for the end title of City of Angels

  • Well thank you Olivia, I LOVE this song. Alanis' voice is.. amazing, that's about the only word I can really think of.

  • I am a metal fan through and through. But still a fan of Alanis Morissette. Every song I've heard of hers had such great vocals and passion I cannot help but love it, especially this song. Gotta listen to it again. Thanks for uploading it.

  • Gäääänsehaut. Is das geil.

  • The lyrical cadence reminds me of Radiohead. Not many can pull it off.

  • I'm wondering what the song is about. Is it that she longs for someone (or just their temporary companionship ;o)) who would be looked down upon by her peers? That's what I get from it. Maybe I'm a bit eager to think this because I'm "that guy" a few times over in my adult life. Thoughts?

  • Pretty mean <:l

  • Short hair is not her thing...makes her look older than she really is...but regardless she still rocks!

  • city of angels ^^ i love nicholas cage and the movie

  • invited or not I love u Alanis

  • I justttttt love this song.....

  • What does the reference to "shepherd" mean? Anyone know?

  • Comment removed

  • @wildirishroseable "It must be heartening to watch shepherd meet shepherd" A shepherd is a leader; a sheep is a follower. I'm guessing it must be exciting to see two rulers/leaders/celebrities/well-knowns meet each other from the standpoint of a 'sheep' or regular person. That's what I take from it. I think she's speaking about her celebrity and how people want to know every personal thing about her. She's telling us that we are not 'invited' to that part of her.

  • @Classof20012010

for the "shepherd meet shepherd" part, I think it means two lonely people, people are alone, without a partner. Shepherds spends days and weeks out in the wild in solitude, looking after their sheep without any sort of social contact. They are indeed really lonely people.

  • jesus christ alanis its only a fucking birthday party you didn't have to make a song about it you could have just told me im not allowed to come.

  • @bangletits lolz I blast it while creeping behind you, while you creep behind women on the subway

  • Alanis is my number one girl!! I love her more than anyone else does!

  • Am I the only one that feels that the climax of this song is the most fitting theme for the Battle of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? It's all I think about whenever I hear it. Its almost like Alanis herself knew what was coming and composed music for it. Creepy right, i know. It just makes me think of Voldemort and his Death Eaters battling everybody else. its so awesome

  • If I ever get into a fatal car crash, I want this song's climax blasting from my speakers when it happens.

  • i need a moment to deliberate lol!

  • This is one sexy, angry song!

  • Alanis, you are one of the most amazing artists ever. I feel blessed having known your artistry. I hope you'll make many more beautiful songs..even in motherhood, may you continue to blossom.

  • From the moment I heard this song it has haunted me...It will haunt me all the days of my life...And I'd have it no other way...

  • I loved this song when it first came out back in the 90's and I still love it today. Its a beautiful song sang by a beautiful person.

  • I very much enjoy this song, great vocals, and instruments used accompany this song very well. She has a unique voice that I have not heard before except with her.

  • Respect the LADIES` RIGHT TO PICK AND CHOOSE....just as free as the mens` prerogative to make the so called first move

  • If only women could control attraction, facination of all those who like, love them,.....Then they could afford to be less defensive....and more relaxed.......To fend off the dirty disgusting ones, invite those more acceptable...// Yes!!...You are invited..!! Get away!!!.....Thats what this song is about....Nuff said & thx 2 Alannis

  • how did she write this very clever x

  • Like anyone would be

I am flattered by your fascination with me

    Like any hot blooded woman

I have simply wanted an object to crave

    But you're not allowed

    You're uninvited

    An unfortunate slight

  • Ahhh! Hate it that girls always talk about love and shit... as if they mean it :D

  • shepherd

  • pretty dark kind of song...strange..creeps me out a bit, not much, but a bit..and she's a bit svary looking too..she coulda been the witch in the Blair Witch project

  • I just found out about this song somehow, and I can't wait to memorize it.

  • 9 people weren't invited.

  • @l0veIshhDead

    am i invited

  • @l0veIshhDead lol good one

  • @l0veIshhDead muhahaha... 10 now (me including)

  • I wish she would make more music!!!!

  • Love the darkness of this song!

  • this song is awesome. the video was good too!<3

  • the 1st time i heard this song was at a fair it was awesome :)

  • This may seem strange but when I was much younger I heard this song. For the longest time (literally years) I was haunted by the memory of a few notes within the song. I wanted to know so badly what the song was but no one I asked could identify it. Finally one day I heard someone singing it and I asked them what it was. When I found here it was everything I dreamed it would be!

That makes me sound insane but its the truth. Gorgeous song, talented artist!

  • @kissymissy08 so what's your opinion on what this song is about? hehe

  • @larine824 I could tell you how I interpret the song, but honestly I think that music means something different to different people. Even songs where the meaning is blatantly obvious are going to evoke different emotion and memories in different individuals. Listen to the song and decide what it means to you personally, that way you'll enjoy it more ;)

  • @kissymissy08 Same thing just happened to me seconds ago , looool

  • @kissymissy08 that same experience has happened to me more times than i can count. Ive literally gathered a list of my most all time favorite songs that i will play for my kids when they are young. then re-introduce them to them when they are older. they will love them all just as i do. crazy? maybe. lol

  • @kissymissy08 i find this song is one of those songs that what ever you're doing, and wherever you are, if you get it in your head, you HAVE to listen to it... x<3x

  • @wiztantan i agree with that.

  • @kissymissy08 what was it about for you?

  • @kissymissy08 This song plays at the end of the movie City of Angels where an angel falls in love with a nurse (Meg Ryan). The angels job is to take people that died to heaven. The nurse (actualy doctor) was filled with grief because she couldn't save her patient. To make a long story short I think the uninvited means she couldn't be with him because she's human. The angel did find a way to become mortal (by falling) but she died in a accident! I like to know what you found out though.

  • Excellent song and the best movie I have ever seen. Very powerful!!!

  • luv this song and her!!!!!!!!!

  • Love Alanis....hate this song tho!! :/

  • Comment removed

  • absolutly beautiful

  • She is sooooooooooooooooo

    Deep person.

    Deep, Person.

    Lovely person.

    amazing person.

    Respecting Alanis Morissette.

    my opinion anyway..

  • Alanis looks like the lovechild of sigourney weaver and neve campbell.

  • 9 people are uninvited

  • @klln4mny hahahah, funny. Oh well, that's h8rs for ya. :)

  • deeper ......

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Stoic SQUIRM, I thought she was saying Stoic SQUIRREL.

    D'OH!!

  • @Qualipus Hahaha, stoic squirrel! I imagine a stoic squirrel would be pretty exciting to watch, though.

  • pains to hear this trash.

We should all thank freemasons for making her what she is today

  • when i heard this song for the first time i somehow was reminded of another song that has some similarities. It bugged the hell out of me until i finally found that song and its a Journey song called Opened the Door it came out in 1978. The same rythm, tone and notes start at 2:26 and it lasts maybe 10 secs anyways listen to it, see what you think
