  • i have seen her live, in '88 at aintree race course. she was the support act for michael jacksons british leg of his BAD tour. they were both great.

  • europwe in the 80s was really closed down, just to cross to spain you needed a passport and visa, then to get to france another and so on, not like today, and each country was totally diff, but at the same time it had same spirit, and bands like brit bands were just devored by other bands elsewhere, specially punk goth bands

  • takes me back to the early 80s nearly got a girlfriend

  • 1981 - was a good year for the charts! - Love The Passions, and Kim Wilde and Madness too!! - You wouldn't get that today!

  • I probably saw this on the television that night. Thirty years ago. A bit depressing when I think about it!

  • Kim Wilde used to babysit me when i was young, she would of been 14-15 at the time!

  • @Flickyhecky For real?

  • @TheNaomiengland My mum was a friend of Marty Wilde, so used to go round their a lot, i was only 4 or 5 at the time

  • @Flickyhecky Did she say anything about Sid VIcious?

  • I was 20 year old when this was in the charts, very early eighties were great.....yes they were miming, but no one cared lol........this was kims first hit single...thank you for posting VirgLondon1

  • we all grow old but we can look back that ,s us lets grow old togther and apart

  • what happened to part 3?

  • I remember this episode of totp now! Seeing Kim Wilde for the 1st time, even as an 8 year old child I found her sexy!

  • kim wilde.. in retrospect trying to produce the perfect new wave sound. And succeeding whilst looking gorgeous :)

  • And why use a mic when everbody knows you're miming! brilliant. She's just brilliant

  • I have watched this so many times!!

  • Back in 1981 I used to go past Kim Wilde's house on my way to work. It was only 20 miles out of my way !

  • @drpoxy The injunction affected things later though right?

  • now this is CLASS. Kim Wilde

  • I'm 37 and I still want to be Kim Wilde here. I was meant to grow out of this by the end of '81.

  • Insult or compliment?

    lol

  • Definately an Insult.

  • Well, your wrong.

The 80's had great music. Original, creative, what more can you want?

  • I couldn't agree more, it was the frumpiest most dull decade ever. Obviously there was some good bands and music and Kim Wilde looks stunning here although musically i much prefer Kate Bush and bands like Talk Talk if i was to choose something from the Eighties.

  • Yeah, 'The Colour Of Spring' was a good Talk Talk album. Echo and the Bunnymen were a great band too.

  • Yes The Bunnynen were good too. Check out Talk Talks "Spirit of Eden" album as that's a bit special.

  • Id say now is worse than the 80s, the 90s werent exactly brilliant either.

  • Come to think of it, maybe you're right. The 90's were terrible and todays music is pretty bland. For creative music I'd go for the period 66-74.

  • Agreed. Well, I am a synth guy, and the 80's was the decade that they emerged in so I am gonna like it. The late 80's was definatly the time that most good music stopped.

  • As for synth music, Tangerine Dream had some great albums in the 70's & 80's.

  • Forgot to mention Klaus Schulze. Great keyboard stuff.

  • Synths emerged in the early 70's. Have you heard 'Baba O'Riley' and 'Won't get fooled again' both by The Who ? Or the albums 'Rubycon' and 'Cyclone' by Tangerine Dream ? And of course, Oxygene Pt 4 by Jean Michel Jarre. Nearly forgot, 'Dark Side Of The Moon' and Wish You Were Here' albums by Pink Floyd.

  • oxygene!!!-ouch

  • we all have our own time-1977-81 was great for me but now I realise how great 1955-70 was as well

  • It is amazing how fast the decades go once leaving high school. The age between 6 and 16 seems forever after that before you know it you are in your late 30s. This music brings back great memories though.

  • I am happy to add this to my favourites - for a second time!

  • one of the great things about top of the pops is the filming,it was excelant!

  • The tape kept jumping on my dvd recently which i had from the 40. The Passions was the only performance had problems. that Kelly Marie is edited out on your one you have got. but on mine it has got it. that i've got a 19-2-81 edition aswell on the cards! that the rest of the edition is okay on mine that it had featured Hot Love which was repeated the second time.

  • You have forgot Kate Bush. Mind you, would you come between Kate or Kim? Certainly a tough one.

  • Toyah or Kim Wilde?

Reckon I'd come down on the side of Toyah

What about Hazel O'Connor tho, its tough isnt it

  • @raahead

905 of ppl on You Tube have to compare everyone!

Kim, Toyah, Kate Bush, Hazel O'Connor e.t.c.... They were all BRILLIANT and still are. In the 70s and 80s we had variety and luckily we did. Why can't people just enjoy all of these artists for each individual style and content they bring?

These days we have NO ONE, music is 95% CRAP!

  • shagadelic roc chic then

now grows marigolds on tv, but then im old and fat too.

    Oh the cruelty of youth
