well the one thing people dont relize ..jimmy an john had to keep up with john botham i kno i didnt spell that rite .. but he will always be the best drummer ever alway......
For those of you that dont know led zeppelin that well.. They played this song for 30 minutes and the only part they wrote were the first 5 minutes of dazed and confused from the album. This video is all improvised.
@ldsjfdslakfjdsa They always stretched out DAZED AND CONFUSED among other songs at their concerts, listen to HOW THE WEST WAS WON (my favorite version) and ROYAL ALBERT HALL. Jimmy Page said the key was hours of practice before each concert, and what happened during the concert was practice + improv + all the emotion of the moment from themselves and their audience.
Led zeppelin jams are awesome because Bonham and jones keep the groove fucking tight, while jimmy page just does crazy shit with his instruments and fusing his guitar with the wailing of Robert.
@miss19lolo I was told that each scene was part of each ones personality and in some small way wanted everyone to see them like that. Page mysterious , Plant knight in shinig armor, Jones family man, and Bonham loving yet on the edge. But who knows? I aslo was told, that in the end as far as the scenes go,they really didnt like them.
@allwomn1 actually, they're the ones who approved of the footage before it was shown in theaters, but they sort of cringed when seeing themselves in that "light"..but that's the age old musicians perspective on their own performances..i.e - did i really come off that way?, do i really sound like that when i'm hammered ?. do i really look like that on camera ? did i really pretend to be a wizard ?..what the fuck was i smoking ?..lol ! i know because i've been a professional musician for 25 years!
OH MY GOD!!! I will take that little booty-shake at 5:22 to my grave with me! If I remember anything in my life its that! I could just eat him alive!!!
uh yeah, sorry for late rep- hadn't been checking lately (besides trying to figure how to answer your question about the things i'm saying that i've no idea about --kidding) oh yeah, the COTBOL is a term that you wont find anywhere because i made it all up as an anagram(?) for Circulation Of The Body Of Light -- it's the basic chackra ritual (you can read all about it from textbook) and LBRP is nothing that i made up- it stands for the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram.
if you noticed it looks similar to when Sam frodo and Gollum are climbing up the side of the mountain near the entrance to Mount Doom in the third Lord of the Rings movie. the old man also "coincidently appears similar to gandalf the gray.
i can see youtubes idea of freedom...any comments on catholics, muslims, hindus etc are acceptable...any observations on jews not....there u go thats freedom according to youtube.
nothing that I’ve read of- but identified from having studied the kabbalah- this segment from the 1973 Led Zep concert flick THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME depicts Jimmy Page doing LBRP on his guitar- later on a Tarot scanning (of the HERMIT Arcana), progressing to the C.O.T.B.O.L. Ritual, + age regression initiation (which are not as much visual in the actual rituals’reality).
Haha Jimmy's fantasy is weird as fuck, I'm sitting here in my room at 2 in the morning in the dark with some creepy ass old man staring at me, creeped me out
I love Led Zeppelin but I still hate the Song remains the same. You've got John Bonham's drum solo in Moby Dick which drags on and on (and who honestly likes drum solos anyway). Then we have Dazed and Confused which meanders along for ages. Some good bits but then just a lot of crap where nothing seems to happen. Just an endurance test listening to this. I've had this album for 25 years and I hated this from the start and 25 years later it still sounds like shit.
@millburg1008 Mind if I don't. I'm a fan of the studio work (quite like Presence and In through the out door - not Coda though) but TSRTS is a poor representation of this band. Wheres the discipline? Where is the enjoyment in all of this? Why did the fans and the record buying public deserve this and a boring Bonzo drum solo. And Peter Grants antics and the silly fantasy sequences don't do them any favours.
@millburg1008 It was stuff like this that got the punks angry. BORRING as Vivian from the Young Ones would say and as much as I love classic rock I have to agree with him. If you do a long song do it interestingly or at least get a groove going and improvise. The good stuff on TSRTS doesn't balance out the arrogance and self indulgence of this project. Anyway what happened to free speech? If the emperor's ain't wearing any clothes someones gotta tell 'em and why not on Youtube.
@sometimeworld1 You're out of your mind. Song Remains the Same captures Led Zeppelin at their prime in live performance. If you honestly think time just drags watching this, you my friend are not a true Zeppelin fan or rock fan. You might be the first person I've ever heard that says this sounds like shit. 95 likes and 0 dislikes, lets be real.
@dt089 I am a fan (got both boxed sets and every album). But TSRTS as an album (at least the original 9 track album spread over 80+ minutes) isn't much loved. I was pleasantly surprised out how good the BBC sessions were and I've heard nothing but good reviews about How the West was won. I think these releases show that the surviving members care about their legacy. I'm not sure they were thinking that far ahead in '76.
@sometimeworld1 Maybe you should listen closer. It's a half an hour of creative genius. Jimmy Page tries out unique and interesting sounds and it turns out beautiful. If you're expecting short and concise songs then you will be unhappy. If you're open to something sounding outside the norm of common Rock music then you should be blown away. I was!
@DoubleO711 Well I've had a listen to this again and with some judicious editing you could get a fairly decent 12 minute rendition here with the first 8 and a half minutes and a couple of minutes at the end. That leaves about 14 minutes that could have been saved for the other songs from the concert. I can only really judge it as a double live album and its not a particularly good one. Don't forget for those too young this was the only real document of what Led Zep sounded live for 20 years.
@DoubleO711 With some judicious editing you could get a fairly decent 12 minute performance here. The first 8 and a half minutes and another 3 minutes at the end. I have to judge this as a double live album and its not a particularly good one. Some cutting and they could have fitted the rest of the songs from the concert on the album and the whole thing could have been better (as a film as well). Don't forget the soundtrack was all we had of Led Zeppelin official live product for 20 years.
@sometimeworld1 I have to agree with the other commenters. This movie and concert were pure magic. It's as though The Force, itself, took over Page's soul that night. No other time have I heard him play that well. Esp Stairway to Heaven. How the West was Won was mediocre in comparison. Although I liked that version of The Battle of Evermore, (what an awesome song)! Lord of the Rings rules!!
Even with all of the progressive rock, jazz, and classical music I listen to, this version of Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused is the longest song on my iPod.
Let us not forget their influences: Elvis, The Beatles, American Blues, American/British Folk, and of course classical. These fuckers are still the bad asses of Rock baby and everyone knows it!
