  • @aaronalwines Jesus Christ is not Jojo M ayer as fuck i'm going to hell hahahaha

  • his entire kit sounds like those 60's kits loops that you hear so often..sound wise, they're a perfect replica !

  • GROOVEMASTER

  • Wow! Those are great shots! I love, that theres only one angle the whole time, so you can really focus on certain things. And its just great, to watch such master play!

  • actually, i remember seeing jojo at the canal room about two years and i told him how much buddy rich's influence shows through in his playing. the guy told me he's inspired by everyone, not just one person. i think that's the best approach when playing an instrument or taking up any craft: be open to learning from everyone and anyone.

  • i bet that if u put a backtrack of a guy taking a shit he can make that solo sound like MAGIC!!

  • love him ... saw his videos every day for about 5 Years now ... still amazing :D

  • Wow!! JoJO your tha man.

  • Nastiness at 3:00!

  • few drummers can create music like Jojo for example

  • im going to play like this one day. this guys my inspiration!

  • J Mayer is a very good drummer, and i can hear influences from Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd and Tony Williams in amongst the mix, GOOD!

  • @muscritiq80 oh yeah , he's got influences, but i think you should go back in time , this guy studied with some off the best among them Chapin, and many others,

this guy is an innovator/master, i dont think he looks at weckl for influence

  • @Percussionfish Actually he says that he never studied music or took drum lessons.

  • @gapdef if its true? i really like that, cuz im self taught.

  • @Percussionfish Yeah, you can see the interview here on youtube. I think it's called "Jojo Mayer talks about the early days" or something :)

  • @Percussionfish He's definately self-taught!

  • @Percussionfish I've seen a picture of him with Chapin...

  • 5:11

I thought he was keeping the down beat with the bass drum...he's doing doubles with the bass!

  • jojo's hands are the best in the world. top notch execution

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again....the man's an alien. For me, pound for pound the best drummer I've ever heard. He mixes creativity, speed, precision and extreme limb independence at the highest level and still manages to make it all groove like hell.

  • i fuckin love that x-hat groove

  • Jojo really does have a style and personality of play that no other drummer has. Really respect the effort he's put in to nailing those beats.

  • Fucking awesome!!!! Excuse my French.

  • where the hell is music here? just a bunch of noise lol just being sarcastic, excellent drummer fucking good music good chops good excellent everything, god bless all musicians especially drummers as i am and all of you who are

  • wat the hell does he do to the cymbal at 00:28 ????

  • @emmett12345678 It's sort of like a choke where you grab the edge of the cymbal right after you choke it. but instead of choking it all at once, it's a control tremelo effect. (that's actually a very bad example)

regardless, it's jojo, and i can only attempt to unerstand what is going through that man's head when he's playing.

  • I LOVE the groove at 2:58, not to mention that awesome crossover at 3:07. That's SO clean.

  • he selected like sabians best cymbals ever

  • why do you say that?

  • Comment removed

  • Because Meinl are the most original and kick ass sounding cymbals on the market . They are also European made which I think might appeal to him on some level . But country of origin aside , go to Meinl`s home page and listen to their new cymbals . They are stunning . There is only so long a true artist can resist a kick ass new tool to make art with . Go listen to Benny Greb`s Meinl`s . They sound unbelievable .

  • nah, dont think so, he already has signature cymbals with sabian, fierce hats, crash and ride. why do you say that though?

  • lot of paradiddles in the beginning.

or thats what it looks like,

    hes amazing!!!

  • his sound is perfect......tastyyyyyyyyyyyyyy drumming too i love his feel

  • Hate he way his toms are tuned, they seem flat.

  • Jojo SMOKES!!! An awsome player.

  • Jojo your the fuckin master.

  • no one is ever blessed, they only gain their talent through hard work and practice

  • Buddy Rich.

  • @octavarium23 thats a lie

  • We strive so hard to sound like machines!

  • Machines aren't good enough to sound like this.

  • any vids of him playing with a band?

  • Yeah a ton. Go to my favorites, there's a bunch. He plays with a jazz group called Depart and his drum n' bass group is called Nerve.

  • yes, in the drum off jojo mayer and nerve

  • That was like taking a nice warm shower.

    ahhhhhhh.

  • the allenboy, you're wrong, nobody has ever had this kind of musical groove before. It's not the speed or technique that makes him great, it's the feeling that he puts into every hit.

  • I agree with theallenboy. People like Jojo Mayer, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Dave Weckl have great chops, but all their stuff is the same. If you want musical groove and feeling, look at greats like Tony Williams, Max Roach, or Steve Gadd.

  • Can't you hear Jojo's groove? It's not the same style as, say, Gadd, but he definitely has his own grooves through which he makes musical expressions and creativity.

I'm not huge fan of his electronic/studio heavy music, but his drumming gives so much more feeling and musicality. Listen to his jungle beats too, they're pretty amazing.

  • this guy is a master unforgettable

  • IIIIIIIII know! Why do people rave over drummers like Neil Peart when theres Jojo Mayer, who is obviously, technically the best drummer aound these days!

  • What brand of drumset is he using? It sounds great!

  • he uses sonor

  • Thanks.

  • 4:57-5:30 Two for One Drop Bounce technique GOD skill:)

  • yeah jesus !

  • SHIIIIITTTTTT!! Jojo came to Bath and I missed it!!! I didnt even hear about this!!! Oh bloody hell i cant believe this, does anyone know when this was?

  • no, but im laughing at ur unfortunate situation

  • Unlucky mate, I saw him in Manchester. Blew me away.

  • Love the sound of his Sabian signature "Fierce Crash" on his right.

  • I just bought it two weeks ago, its amazing!

  • man I LOVE 2:55

    WHHHHHHAAAAAACK

  • GOD!

  • gerdrummer, the song is called sedation depravation.

    so musical, it's crazy

  • 5:40 - 5:50, that is pretty insane!!!

  • Damn right it is :D

  • that tune is called "ulaan bataar", i think. i'm not sure..

  • Sedation Deprivation

  • this guy has to be a legend one time ... otherwise he would be underated

  • actually, the tom is 16" and the side tom to the left is a 10". He usully uses a 14" floor tom. The Rack tom is 8x10" tom.

  • man, his style really reminds me of billy cobham in some mahavishnu orchestra

  • I was thinking exactly the same. at 1:00 i actually thought he was goin into Celestial Terrestrial Commuters off Bird of Fire. Two of my favourite drummers.

  • what size is that floor tom? looks huge. could be the camera angle.

  • It's just a 16 inch. The tom next to it is a 10, so that may make it look bigger.

  • hm, though the tom is 10, the snare is still 14... the floor looks way bigger than the 14.

  • The snare might be a 13 in this case... I'm really not that sure though. Jojo changes his kit a lot and constantly tests new sounds and setups. I've never seen him use a floor tom bigger than a 16, but you never know...

  • the floor tom there is a 15in, 13x5 snare

  • Kin genius

  • jojo is the modern day buddy rich

  • the thing i love about jojo is that his solo's always start off suttle and well thought through and always ends up with a big climax and not just bashing the shit out the drums and doin the fastest beats, he's just amazing how controlled he is even when going at 100 mph, great drummer!

  • 2:54-3:30 is probably the most amazing drumming piece i've ever heard

  • why that in particular? the syncopation?

  • What I love about Jo Jo is not just his obvious mastery over his sticking and foot work but how he uses it. So damn tasteful and musical and he has a great way of flowing from one idea to another without it sounding disjointed or sudden. One of the best that ever sat behind a kit.

  • suck a dick robbus12

  • Better???????????????

    Just enjoy...........

  • keep in mind that jojo mayer plays a small set and single pedal that akira jimbo plays double bass and plays a massive set....sooooooo i think mayer takes the cake for better player

  • jojo always leaves em blown away

  • I love Jojo AND Akira, but how can you even compare them. They are nothing alike. They both play drum and bass, yeah. That's about it. Besides, Jojo has no double pedal. Snap. Nothin but love Hemi.

  • Such a great control of dynamics!

  • I´m sure jojo is inspired by them, but he gives this particular playing styles a very avantgardistic touch and creates something new and simply amazing... i´m stunned by this video...

  • the reall fuckin´ best technique of the world!

  • So pretty. Jojo really knows how to beautify music.

  • love the approach.........master

  • holy shit ! Jojo was in a great shape that day !!!

  • hes always in great shape!!!!;)

  • yikes

  • Yes indeed!!! Jojo is the man! 21st century drummer...

  • no 22 st century drummen ;)

    i agree

  • Jojo never ceases to amaze me!!! great!
