MANNNN I have a Dell Inspiron 640m with 2gb of RAM and Dreamscene runs fluid and un-lagging. I also have the Rocketdock running with over 50 icons! All smooth sailing over here. For me to have a dinosaur!
I use Dreamscene on 4 different computers with VISTA, my quad-core has 8 GB of RAM, and the other laptops have 4GB. I don't even notice the slightest lag in performance with dreamscene running.
It takes hardly ANY resources.
Plus, you can install Stardock Deskscapes and run the DREAM format if you want to consume less resources.
But personally, I don't notice ANY difference at all and I edit videos and sound on my computer, which are very CPU intensive.
I used to think that you were smart, but geez, get off of it dude. You can't even seem to get your own computer working and you keep blaming Microsoft and Nvidia.
Why don't you write your OWN drivers if you know so much!!!
Dreamscene was the coolest feature of VISTA. And you CAN use it on Home Premium.
I actually highly enjoy using dreamscene.... I am currently using the snowtiger background and it looks really good. I have not experienced any decrease in performance since using it.
I can run vista dreamscenes without any performance issues. I never use them though since I havnt actually found one that I enjoy staring at.
What we need are upgrades to desktop productivity(perhaps built in virtual desktops) or enhanced dual/tri/quad monitor support allowing full screen applications to run while at the same time allowing support to manipulate other desktops without the full screen application minimizing.
I have ultimate and looked at the dreamscene feature, I just don't like it. Even if it didn't hog up system resources I still would prefer a standard wallpaper. However I have been very happy with vista thus far, used it for around 6 months on a mid-high end computer.
Chris, with the spec of your system I doubt that you will be that bothered about the amount of extra resources DreamScene will use. I think it is great but then I am talking 2 years after this video was made. Maybe you could give an updated opinion of Ultimate extras?
I dont see how Dreamscene is that bad. I like it. I dont see what people dont like about it because when your using the machine, you can pause the video if you want by right clicking the desktop and also Windows pauses the video automatically when a program is maximised. If you need 'more' resources for an active program or something just maximise the program window -_-
on my imac (thru boot camp) i use vista ultimate x64 and i keep on dreamscene all the time. its not distracting at all to me, just keeps my desktop feeling alive, and not too mention i haven't noticed any slow downs or performance issues with it.
I use dreamscene as a screensaver, by unpausing it when I am not using the computer. But you have to turn of your original screensaver. On your desktop just right-click to pause or unpause dreamscene.
If you have a virus protector on your computer already, just click on Control Panel, click on User Accounts and Family Safty, click on User Accounts, the click on Turn User Account Control on or off. Uncheck User Account Control, click 'OK' then restart your computer. You will never have to worry about the security issue ever again.
you're a moron, you can turn that shit off and since you don't know how to turn it off it's best that it's on so you don't install shit that makes your computer a zombie that floods the network.
i had something like that on my mac but after 2 minutes of using i had to turn it off, it was to annoying and useless. if i want to watch a video i pop a dvd in. The water fall one in vista is cool to where it would show just the water flowing, i could get away with that but to have the whole screen moving in the background is just a big head ache and useless too. all so pointless because most windows users run the Programs full screen, in turn you'll rarely see it anyway.
Windows DreamScene is cool and looks great, yes it may take up some of your cpu, but when you maximize a window the dreamscene video stops playing therefore you get back the performance that you need & you can get dreamscene in home premium by downloading some files...
I use Dreamscene to show off. Its not much of a resource hog. I can run Photoshop CS3 + 3ds Max 2009 + Revit architecture very smoothly at the same time while running dreamscene
remember a period after xp just came out, people were using 98 and whined about xp. same thing, the thing is OSs always get better and so does vista, i just switched from xp to vista x64 and well it is exceeding my expectations (for the fact of the negative reviews all over the internet) i was quite hesitating to switch at first, since i use 3d softwares like maya zbrush etc that are rather prone to sensitive incompatibility issues. but vista runs smoothly and no problems at all so far...
Vista is better than XP...provided you have the specs to run it. I have an AMD 3000+ @ 2.4, 2GB ram, Zotac 8800GT and 500GB HD. It cant get any smoother. I turned the annoying UAC off. The pluses - DX10, Aero and Dreamscene is beautiful, security. Cons - sucked when i had 1GB of ram
You keep winning about Vista. Your problem is that you probably don't know how to configure it properly or you are to lazy to do that. Vista is quite nice system nowadays. It works perfectly with Aero interface on my hp dv6530ew. Configuring Vista properly makes it better system than XP.
I have windows dream scene and so far I like it, except for the fact that I can't find any cool ones. The ones that I have so far are of nature and stuff, I want one that would really catch my attention. If you guys know any website that I can find some cool dream scene wallpaper PLZZZ!!!! message me.
vista dreamscene is awsome. i got vista ultimate 64 bit os. if u have trouble with dreamscene it is because ur computer is not optimized for it. well for me im using amd phenom 9850 2.5ghz @ 3.0ghz using 10% of cpu and four 3870 single slot quad crossfire x using 9-20% of the gpu. btw it suppose to be only for vista ultimate but stardock, wincustomize dreamscene has a patch that u can use to use for vista home, basic and even windows xp. anyways have fun.
What're you talking about? People have been using vlc to use videos as wallpaper for ages already. Only thing unique with .dreams is that it's locket to the Ultimate version.
my computer can handle it, yes nvidia sucks with drivers thats why i use im using 64 bit and have 4 gigs of ram and radeo 1950 pro 256MB . dreamscene dosent seem to slow anything down

Im running Vista Ult. and Dreamscene, and i still really have no problems with either. Dreamscene mostly uses your Video Card. And everyone who bitches about it being a resource hog should throw away the Intel 2 PC that they still have from 1995.
And CoolHandDude is right. He;s just a fag bitch who just likes to hate on shit he has problems with and cant fix em.
I use dreamscene on Home Premium due to a couple of hackers cracking it (inevitable) and I really like it; I'm one for changing my desktop at least weekly so to see them moving is a great thing, it's the future of desktop backgrounds in my opinion. Going back to a static image now will feel like I've degraded.
As far as resource hog goes, I don't notice any difference in performance at all and I'm only on a core2duo 1.9Ghz, 2GB 800Mhz RAM and an Nvidia 7900GS.

Well, no I can't say anything for others. But what I've love for them to tell me is what they can do on any other OS that they can't in Mac OS X. Also, I'd love for the to tell me where they think Mac OS X is flawed. Most of the people who do reply to these questions typically use out-dated info (AKA they've never used Mac OS X or haven't in many years).
Ubuntu is a lot like Mac OS X. It doesn't look as nice, and doesn't manage its applications as well, but in terms of ease-of-use Ubuntu is probably only topped by Mac OS X.
Yeah. True. Actually, Ubuntu was my first experience with Linux. Haven't tried any other distros (haven't bothered buying any discs in a while). Though I was recently given a older machine with a older version of redhat.

I've never used a Mac with OS X, and I am dying to use one. Macs seem some damn awesome.
Right now I am running Ubuntu.
