  • Spinks was a beast at 175 pounds!!!!

  • Eddie still sharp as a tact in this fight, Michael just a little hungrier and

    more powerful puncher outta' nowhere.

  • Michael Spinks was one of the greatest, if not the greatest lightheavyweights of all time. That was a time and era where so many tremendous lightheavyweights were fighting at the same time. It was a great division in the 70's and early 80's. It's a shame we will never see this again.

  • Thanks for posting the highlights. Would prefer to see the whole thing if you can go thru the trouble of putting it up. Was just a kid when I saw it. Eddie was one of my fave fighters. At the time, I thought Spinks was doing some illegal tactics that swelled one his eyes up: like rubbing his elbows into Eddie's eyes during clinches. Some one mentioned thumbing too. Spinks was a good fighter too though.

  • Damn, Spinks was a good fighter. Almost great.

  • @57highland How is he not great?

  • @GohModley My bad. Spinks was great. Real accurate puncher. One of the best jabs in the business. Devastating straight right (The Spinks Jinx). Nice guy too.

  • What a shame there was never a rematch. Eddie deserved it after getting thumbed like that. They were going to fight again in Washington D.C. but Eddie refused after he scaled 2.5 pounds over 175, claiming the scale was rigged and refusing to drop any extra weight. Bert Sugar got a flour bag, put it on the scale, and indeed the scale was off. Boxing can be a dirty game.
