  • Something tells me that this line was owned by the Great Western Railway

  • Yep correct

  • The coaches were not named by the P&DSR -11 were from the British Railways and 8 were from the British Rail Diesel Multiple Unit. The carriages were named after female employees or their children/grandchildren. I think the names give them a sense of character and personality. Spotting the carriage and train names is a fun sport.

  • The coaches were BR built but never carried names until P&DSR days.

  • I recommend the Round Robin - train, ferry, river boat cruise, open top bus (only good weather), or Santa's Grotto for the children at xmas. In few decades I'm going to retire to Paignton- such a great place and loads to do.

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • been on this train 2x a yr since i was born

  • It is a great line, thanks for your comment.

  • lovely place my fav is warrior, love the

Prairie, when u hop over to dartmouth on ferry u should go on the car ferrie it cheeper lol.

  • Yeah 4555 is a great loco. I've been across on the road ferry, something different. Thanks for the comment.

  • 07:52...unfortunately mate you're always going to get that! everywhere. GCR is the worst for that, during a postal special lol

  • I think I only have one day of the two locomotive timetable which is the day I get there so if I get the chance then I'll try and get up to Saltern that afternoon and get a few shots, in case they use the same single loco all week. It'll more than likely be between the two tanks as I expect they'd rather use those than Lydham. What can't you do with those tanks?! lol

  • Yeah the PDSR usually use the same loco all week and yeah mainly one of the tanks, but 7827 comes out from time to time. I'm sure the tanks could do anything lol!

  • I live near the Paignton Sands Road level crossing I can see the steam from my kitchen window great video I should go on it more often I guess

  • Your very lucky all I can say.

  • We atayed at Waterside june 2008 and goliath pulled us to kings wear and on the way back, it had to tow 10 carradges. 30 tonnes each! Now thats power

  • Yeah 5239 has quiet a bit of power! Thanks for the comment.

  • Fantastic to go on! Went on years ago! bring back memories

  • The PDSR is a very nice line and the locomotives are kept pristine, its just a shame they are only a business and not a volunteer line like the SDR. But still, a lovely line and that "Goliath" (and "Hercules" for that matter) are both beasts. It is a shame "Ajax" as that was a little beast but I suppose they needed the extra 2-8-0. Very nice video. Thanks for posting.

  • Yep 6435 storming Goodrington Bank with 7 in tow - bloody hell, you can't beat it! Thanks for the comment mate.

  • I've also been hauled by Warrior. #4555 is my personal favorite.

  • 4555 is a nice locomotive, one of my favourites down at the PDSR, but wouldn't suprise me if they sell her in a few years time.

  • dont say that i went on that last week it cost a lot of money!

  • 7:45, come on dude, its a little kid. He's exited to see a steam train like anyone else at that station, give him a break. Besides, I think it adds lots charm to the shot.

  • the pdsr is a great line shame that paignton station is so small

  • At the moment there are 2 more engines, another 4-6-0 named BraveHeart, and a 2-6-2T named Warrior. Both of which are undergoing an overhaul, and are planned to be back within 2011. Brave Heart and Warrior will then join the pack for handling the duties.

  • Yeah thats right, seen both of those run and been hauled by Warrior.

  • Having just seen your, I wouldnt get too steamed up just seeing a young child running in your shot, after all he's near enough your age I'm sure you was like that back. I'd use caution as you wouldnt know what parents can be like.

  • Yeah I know he was excited by no need for that, running a loco is in daft, it will always beat you!

  • Great video, never been to the P&DSR before but sure would like to go. I have never been to any preserved Steam Railway but im going Didcot nnext year along with the Bluebell railway

  • Yeah Didcot is good, check my video out of it if you want.

  • hi mate just to say the livery they use is the old GWR Livery, Like Early 1900s ;-)

  • Cool, very nice indeed. I am coming up on the Saturday of the SVR ASG!

  • Great video i went there on the dartmouth arrow back in 2006

  • Great video Josh! We're hoping to go on the Painton to Dartmouth Steam Railway next week!

I used to enjoy watching steam trains when I was a child - and I still love them!

  • Well check my account tonight - P&DSR Lineside video going up!

  • great video mate, loved it. liked the shot of goliath running around and of 7827 leavin paignton, shame about that twat ruined the shot!

    5*

  • I was so pissed off tbh

  • same thing happend to me at SDR, lol i was pissed off

  • I agree with you about gwr liveries. They do look better and the names, its much easier to associated a loco with a name than a number

  • You went on the 13th? What time. Around lunchtime i was in the woolworths opposite buying a family guy dvd!!! I live about a 5 minute drive away from that railway. I've been on it over 50 times.

  • I was back in Dartmouth around 1045 and back Kingswear at just gone 1

  • Very good video Josh! The locos look great (especially the 2-8-0 tank!) It's nice to see the PDSR still been used for what it was built for (carrying holiday makers) Looks a nice line! 5*

  • Yes Richard its a very good line, I dunno why enthusiasts 'hate' it so much

  • Nice video, i agree about the loco liveries etc why it makes em look very smart, i like it better than GWR cuz all it is is plain green with GWR on LOL thats why i like BR livery cuz there lined. And regarding the signals it may be un-authentic to the GWR but the GCR had colour light signals in the 60's XD

great video went on it a couple of weeks ago!!! :)

  • Its there toys so let them get on with it

  • I agree

  • excellent video josh, captured the line well, and you are right about the liveries they suit them well

  • Glad to see someone agreeing

  • think the liveries of the engines might be pre grouping because the GWR was formed in the 1830s and the livery was changed after 1922

  • Fantastic Video mate and some great shot 7827 even if that TWAT got in the way lol and the end shot both good pity about the wheather 5 stars and in my favs!

  • Well it did brighten up

  • nice one at the end when 7827 left i took a film from the other side when i went and got a good shot despite 2 pacers almost getting in the way luckily they passed before the manor came near

  • Thanks, yeah thats why I went that side because if a mainline train went past it wouldn't matter.

  • may i ask then was there anything in platform 1 or the storage sidings when you filmed

  • Shortly after a 143 went in there

  • oh right

  • Such a nice bit of the country but that ferry doesn't look the nicest place to be!

  • lol well at least its only for a few minutes.

  • Nice video Josh. I agree with you about what you said. We did the same, first train, travel option 2. Don't worry about the twat,a kid did that to me a Minehead (he come down on the same train you was on when you went there in May. Anyway 5* + Favorite

  • Thanks mate. I wish he tripped up, this ice cream fell out of his hand and he started to cry - IMAGINE THE VIEWS ON THAT

  • Add the benny hill theme tune of him falling over and that would get a lot of views!

  • nice!!!!

  • Thank you very much

  • your welcome
