  • whos loco's wer pulling the passanger train at 1;54?was that the delaware lackawanna's loco's?

  • @mdurdan DL did not exist at that time. What you see is Guilford.

  • If all ways possible, I'll be there.

    Why?

    Len

  • If there looking for biger power , they should restore the Reading T-1 , that could pull the grades with no problem. it wighs 432 tons

    Len.

  • they had not acquired 3254 at this point, and one of the big reasons they got '54 was that they needed a steamer that could easily pull trains up the grade while '17 was down for repairs.

  • 3254 has been at steamtown since or before 1986, I was there in 1984 and 3254 was there then, they had her nembered as 1271 though.

    Len.

  • ah got my numbers worng, sorry. Yea she didnt look too good then

  • @Conrail6370 - Steamtown made a trade with the Gettysburg Railroad for the 3254. They traded CP 4-6-2 1278 for the 3254.

  • stevelerro. Steamtown had 3454 dressed up at Lackawanna 1271 , I have many pictures to back that statement up.

  • @AFBoone1 wait, but if 3254 was dressed up as 1271 in 84, where was it??

  • '17 had a different whistle now. This ones much more high pitched

  • Great video. Weren't they running on the viaduct at this time?

  • Nice...they just tore that switch building down on the left in the "Scranton" portion.

  • and ten years later they had a grand opening, and ten years after that its back to this

  • what do u mean by that?

  • is that a different whistle than is currently on the 2317? it sounds different but i wasnt sure

  • I don't really know, sorry I can't help you.

    Len.

  • I see what he means.

I know from working on it that if you hang on it it is pretty high but it's not that high.

    sounds reading

  • yep

  • Man, the '17 looks great with white-wall tires! And man, the Guilford ALCo is pretty.

  • I was 16 years old when I took this video. I have more , I'm working on it .

  • were is that bridge at 5:05???? how owns it and is their any track on it.. good vid.

  • That bridge is the old Reading bridge. I don't believe there is rail on it.

  • The bridge is of the Eire Railroad, and no track , it's all gone.

The Reading didn't have it's on track in Scranton, if they went in , they uesed trackage rights over the Lehigh Valley.

  • thanks for the info.

  • That vid is as old as me! very interesting and early footage Len. I always liked 2317 in the CP passenger livery and she still looks great in her black & gold colors too. I'm surpirzed to see NKP 514 actaully in NKP colors in that vid because I know in the 90's she was wearing a "lackawannaized" paint job.

  • Hey Jim, What NKP? I saw D&H & Gilford.

    Len.

  • first run bye Right at 18-22 sec 2317 passes with the GP-7 514 in tow behind her.

  • I for got about that unit. but 2317 I belive was doing all the work. She sure did poud the ground when she went past me.

    Len.

  • Hi all, I took this video, but I was using my Uncle's Video Camera/ VCR He had the master tape and this was from the copied that I have. The Master tape gotten trowed out when he past on a few years back. His family threw out all the tapes, with out even asking any one about them.
