I can't help crying every time I hear that story. Two of my favorite groups with some of the best harmony ever. Gonna be a great reunion one day and I can't wait!
Grew up listening to the Statler Brothers (and the Oaks, for that matter). No one. NO ONE comes close to the Statler Brothers. Talented gentlemen, all.
His name is William "Bill" Lee Golden. He was with the Oak Ridge Boys for years then left for a few years. After Steve left the group he rejoined the Oaks. Bill sings lead on Thank God for Kids as well as others.
while traveling through Virginia recently, I stopped at a church near the interstate for Sunday services. To my surprise, I was greeted at the door by Phil Balsley, then watched Harold and Don Reid come in an sit down. It happened to be their home church.
Does anybody know the name of the older guy on the Statler Brothers Show that played te piano on the Gospel song at the end of every show?? I can't remember his name for the life of me and it's driving me nuts.
@LisaDepp Yes. His name is Bill Walker and the "Bill Walker" Orchestra. They would perform at the Music City News award show, years ago for country stars. If you watch closely at some of the Statler performances here on YouTube he is the conductor. One song in particular, you can spot him. "Count on Me"
I've been fortunate, no pun intended, to be around Jimmy Fortune and as great a singer he is, he is equally as great a person. Is there another better tenor singer than him, no way.
2 bearded fella on this vid. i believe they are both with the oakridge boys. the long beard in the begining is william lee golden and the 2nd chap at the end is dwayne allen. if i'm wrong i apologize
@ww7612SEJ You are so right. Phil gave them their Statler flavor. But they were all great. I liked every one of them. They had an amazing career. Wish there were singers today that showed the respect and class that they did.
I think you are right. Phil doesn't have the strongest vocie, but he is definetly the glue. Plus Harold Reid commented in their book that Phil was perhaps the best singer, in the sense that he could find any note and knew exactly where a singer should be on a certain part .... he is Mr harmony, do doubt
Just like kmhade said. I play this all the time. I grew up on The Statler Brothers and love your channel. I would've never known about Tim Tiley and Gold Coast if not for your postings. Thank you very much.

Jimmy is wonderful, but I still love the late great Lew DeWitt the mostest. Someone once told me he was the original brains behind the group. They were so lucky to find Jimmy to replace him after his death.
No one can sing this song like the Statlers. What great voices and talent. We have the OLD and NEW TESTAMENT albums. What a piece of work, nothing has ever been written like this album. It took them 8 yrs to write this masterpiece.

Interesting point. Reading the comments on this video, seems that the class of the people that listen to these guys is just as high as the class of the men themselves. Our society continues to attack Christianity yet ignores the fact that the kindest most giving people in this great land come from the ranks of those known as Christians. Thanks for the memories Statler's. CLASS ACTS and proof that good people still exist in today's lost world. Thanks for once again proving Christians have class.
@texashusker34 Amen, Sir. But christians really aren't meant to be heralded or lauded are they? We do what Jesus commanded us to do - take care of the widow, the poor, the afflicted, the lame, the blind, the homeless. We might be chastised, ridiculed, even executed, but we knew that would happen to us. We choose to follow Christ, against all odds, all nations, all governments, all principalities, no matter the peril - and give all we can in time, talents, and wealth to lift up every one.
I also grew up listening to the Statlers. They are the best harmonizers ever to sing. I encourage anyone to listen to all of their songs and realize the best entertainers were the Statlers. They actually taught me how to sing by listening to their music constantly.
What a fantastic video!! According to Google, the song "The Other Side Of The Cross" was written by Harold Reid's daughter, Kim Reid Weller. Just another example of how talented and blessed this entire family is (check out the group Grandstaff....Harold and Don's sons...)
God has blessed them immensely, and through them....us.
I grew up with the Statler Brothers and there will never be anyone like them. I listen to all genres of music including rap, r&b, country, rock and these guys are still my favorite.
If I am not mistaken, Jimmy wrote,"On The Other Side Of The Cross." What a beautiful and inspirational song full of hope and promise. It is my favorite Statler gospel song. God bless George Younce, the greatest bass singer that ever was and Harold #2...just my opinion.
some of the greatest ministry has been done by the Statlers. Those voices and hearts are God-Given and these two songs are proof of this. The Ten commandments absolutely show our Father's nature and "The Other Side of the Cross" shows His Son's. We are blessed to have heard those voices sing such reassurances of our faith

The first song "Noah Found Grace in the Eyes of the Lord" has appeared in various speeds, through several decades. ... and while I fully enjoy "Noah" ... in any variation by the Statlers ...
Man, it just doesn't get any better than this right here!!! I wish some network would put their TV show back on the air. This kind of singing gets you up and going. The Statlers are my favorite group. You just gotta love 'em when you hear singing like this!

There Never was, not now...and NEVER Will be,
Ever again....A quartet, to equal the Greatness of The Statler Brothers.
They were, in every respect..the epitomy of
INTEGRITY..Pure Class, to the joy of countless millions, around the world.
I thank God, for them and for all the years
that HE, shared them, their incredible talent,
and their lives,with us all.
And I thank their wives, for their support &
sacrifice, in sharing them with us, also.
God Bless You's in your retirement.
