  • FOUR TET AT THE BEGINNING!!

  • what a coincidence...i live in colorado!

  • so different to the studio version, but equally amazing.

  • chris bear is a genius, he's probably better than 90% of all drummers out there, not just indie music. people trying to compare him to other indie drummers probably don't even play drums themselves

  • @nucleararab i'm a drummer and i certainly agree with you. grizzly bear's music is more susceptible to space. what i mean by that is that their songs are open. yellow house is full of that. it requires a drummer who is unselfish in his playing and who plays to complement the music. patience is also key with a lot of grizzly bear's music really taking time to develop. chris bear: great drummer. amazing musician.

  • When was this? Like five years ago?

  • beutiful :')

  • "What now? What now???" Most human lyrics I've heard in a while

  • I would totally try to buy a Silvertone like that, but seeing as they are now pieces of plastic priced at over $500, I guess I will have to stick with my present setup of jury-rigged glory.

  • perfect song, nice bit of fourtet at the begininng of the vid also :D

  • i live in colorado!

  • By the way, I don't know about you guys but I'm in the crucial need for a new Grizzly Bear album. Or at least I think they should officially release that song that was in the lottery commercial cause it's orgasmic and it's incredibly unfair how the full version can't be found anywhere.

  • on the album, the song is like 30 minutes long. What is the deal with the hidden track? What's it from? Anything? I love it.

  • on the album, the song is like 30 minutes long. What is the deal with the hidden track? What's it from? Anything? I love it.

  • SOng wasn't over man!!!!!

  • Ed's is haunting...but the more I'm listening to Grizzly Bear (fan since day 1!) the more it's clear that Daniel already is or is becoming the boss here. To me the biggest difference is Daniel's technique and ability to change moods and dynamics with his voice. Ed just sings loudly and powerfully.

  • 4:22 ... Dan Rossen is a god.

  • this is what a concert setting should be defined as.

  • @elcakester dont forget lullabye buddy amazing drumming in that song

  • los mejores (Y) si viene a españa iré a verlos

  • it makes me want to cry.... its too overwhelming.

  • I'm glad this has more hits than BBCCollective's session of "Knife".

  • @kanggene

That's only because I've seen this video fifty thousand times, haha.

  • Constant shivers throughout.. one of my fave GB songs.

  • Ed has THE most hauntingly beautiful voice...I love him!

  • Chris is a jazz drummer first and foremost and the majority of grizzly bears songs are jazz signatures.

  • I remember so much of this stuff from when I saw them open for Radiohead a couple years ago... Glad they're doing well, Lollapalooza's a big deal.

  • wonderfull when i hear this i feel something inside me (Y)

  • This live arrangement is brilliant, its still the same song in essence but in a different context.

  • Grizzly Bear make beautiful music.....full stop.

  • its an omnichord made by suzuki

    really cool! :)

  • Gorgeous Performance....

  • i keep wondering what that thing that Ed's playing is called............ a part of me wants one.

  • I've scowered the internet for the answer... I have no idea

  • blast!!

maybe I'll just go to the source... or attempt to....

  • lemme know if you have any luck!

  • hell yeah do that shit chris bear!

  • why are you here?

  • we play it in littleton...ya d!g

  • Yeah, you're probably too busy being a ignorant, non-contributing member of society with no morals or actual happiness that doesn't stem from taking other's happiness away, right?

  • Nobody cares what you play in Aurora. If you look at the video title it's "Colorado" by Grizzly Bear, not "What does Illusion0427 do in Aurora," you dickless slapper.

  • To insult someone by calling them dickless is EXTREMELY misogynistic. Imagine 'you clitless slapper'.

  • Oh, please excuse me Twopoint0, I wouldn't want to insult someone who degrades both the African American and homosexual community. I assumed he was male, NOT FEMALE, by the way he was talking (ignorantly and insensitively) so PLEASE tell me how that's misogynistic

  • go pollute a lil wayne Youtube video scumbag

  • don't diss lil wayne, a couple of gems on his last album.

  • Aurora's a shithole. I'm not surprised they don't play good music there.

  • are you from UG??? you are...

  • @paulbanks999

UG indeed, my friend. UG indeed.

  • niiiice. add me. please, i'm littlejoy

  • What now what now what now what now?

  • living in colorado makes this song awesome :) hahaha

  • grizzly bear is most definitely poetic.

  • if only i was a poet and could describe how all of grizzly bears music makes me feel.

  • @SUPERLIMO3000 Everyone is a poet and no one is a poet. Just do your best.

  • Too much luv for one comment!

    <33

  • What guitar is Daniel Rossen using

  • Danelectro

  • Love, love, love this song!!

    Chris Bear you're amazing..

  • it's another tact than on the album, isn't it?

  • shut up ta11 child, i hate you, nobody cares about four tet

  • Stop being such a stupid little cunt. It was an inoffensive comment from ta11. And FYI, I care about Four Tet

  • wooo four tet at beginning.

  • Ed Droste sings like a Ghost. Haunting song and album.

  • does anyone know where i can get a download or bootleg or just some form of copy of the version of this song, i need in my music library asap.

  • the drums really bring together this amazing song

  • I agree, as a drummer, I really admire Chris Bear's drumming more than any other drummer out there. Most drummers worry about playing reaaally fast, instead of that, he worries about the composition of the percussion, which in my opinion is much more important. His drumming is really brilliant. Examples: Two Weeks, Fine For Now, and Colorado, of course.

  • my thoughts exactly

  • i agree completely. this is art at the artist's will and disposal, not forced because the average slipknot fan wants a formula one single stroke roll.

  • @elcakester best drummer out there is the guy from The National. I prefer Grizzly Bear as a band, but the National's drummer is fantastic because of his unpredictable, innovative and generally superb technique.

  • @larrryd I've listened to High Violet (sorry for my ignorance, I've only listened to one National album) and one thing that stood out for me in tracks like "Terrible Love", "Sorrow", "Little Faith", and "Bloodbuzz Ohio" was the drumming. Gotta give the National's drummer props. However, I enjoy Chris Bear's style more. He has a sensational jazzy style and so much flow.

  • @elcakester cont..... He really knows how to make a great percussion climax that flows with the rest of the song, resulting in an eargasm for the listener. Then, again, I don't really have much of a say since I've only listened to one album by The National, although I should give the other ones a listen. I've heard good things about Boxer and Alligator.

  • @elcakester HIgh Violet is good, but in my opinion the two albums prior to it are far better. I suppose High Violet is the breakthrough just because it is easier to get into. Boxer is quite solemn, for want of a better word, and Alligator is slightly more different, which people dont seem to like. However you being a Grizzly Bear fan, i dont think it will bother you.

  • @elcakester agree completely in regards to your comments about chris bear as a drummer. his play flows completely which -and this may sound arsey- compliments the vocals amazingly well. have you given the guy from mew a listen? if you want unpredictability, he's your man.

  • @growupmate doesn't sound arsey, don't worry. I think the style of drumming really does enhance the rest of the band as do the incredibly talented Chris Taylor, Ed Droste, and Daniel Rossen to the rest of the band. Grizzly Bear are just and incredibly and multi-talented band that really do know how to work together at the same level. Their music can just be appreciated in so many levels because it's just so well composed and produced. Will give Mew's drummer a listen.

  • @larrryd what? chris bear is infinitely better than the national's drummer. no comparison

  • @nucleararab I think it is hard to compare them. Half of the songs by the National are kept going by his unpredictable and incredible beats, but Grizzly Bear use Chris' drums to create an overall sound in most of the songs. The drums are less distinctive, therefore they can stray from more rhythmic and straight forward beats. If National songs had Chris Bears style of drumming there would be nothing holding them together.

  • @elcakester I didn't get why I liked grizzly so much until I started listening to the beats in this song... then I got it. amazing stuff.

  • @elcakester Of course, certain genres of music call for different drumming styles. This definitely doesn't call for quickness. I would say though that Chris Bear has far more drum tricks and techniques than most indie drummers out there.

  • dead can dance meets fleet foxes

  • I've seen pretty much all their live stuff on Youtube, and this one's probably my favourite. How can a band be this amazing?

  • chills

  • sounds so different and awesome!

  • This music is really amazing.

Their Album "Yellow House" + Shrooms = Perfection

  • yeah, your music is way better

  • This is still their best song. I wish this video caught the climax though!

  • I was just checking these guys out because they are opening up for wilco at the show I'm seeing tomoro I had no idea. and so perfect live.

  • you're a lucky man.

  • What now? Indeed.

  • I am in Love with these guys.. they just play amazing everytime

  • Daniel Rossen is really a badass guitarist too, especially on this song. Fuckin' sweet.

  • what now?

  • Is there anyone in the band whi isn't an ace singer? I'm addicted to these guys.

  • Konner,

No...all 4 of them sing wonderfully...watch the video for "While You Wait For The Others" and it'll confirm this...

Usually Daniel Rossen (short brown hair) sings the sort of earthy soft stuff, Ed Droste (tall big nose) sings the haunting ethereal stuff, Chris Taylor (blond Leonardo Dicaprio lookin guy) sings the real high stuff, and Chris Bear usually sings counterpunctually to the other three.

  • Awful precise of you haha. They aren't all amazing singers, but that just proves how good of musicians they are. They make it work

  • what? listen to them fucking sing. just because they don't sing fucking operah doesn't mean they aren't amazing. when they all sing together i get shivers.

  • Haha calm down man. I guess that came out wrong

They have a very unique sound with all their voices together and I love how it sounds. I wasn't trying to say they were horrible singers, I was saying how even though they're not choral virtuosos they still make it sound extremely professional.

Plus I read slitheringinterstate's comment wrong. I thought he said not all of them sing wonderfully. I was trying to be an arbiter between you too lol.

    Sorry for the misunderstanding

  • when i first heard the studio version of this song, for whatever reason i thought he was singing "for noah" instead of "what now". my name is noah and when i heard that it almost made me cry; this song is so amazingly beautiful

  • Although still a good song, I think that this live version really loses the stark minimalism that makes the album version so haunting.

  • 1st of all...wow bbc collective loves four tet. and 2ndly...prolly the most phenomenal one sentence turned into a song ever.

  • Anyone that grew up going to Catholic church,

has heard Ed Droste's voice before.

It's the voice that says "Let us proclaimmmmmm...the MYSSSTERYYYYY OF FAITHHHHH"

And I mean that as a compliment...his voice sounds like an ancient Roman Catholic priest.

  • hahaha

  • hahaha very true

  • haha good call man

  • Comment removed

  • Best Grizzly Song... LOVE THIS SON SO MUCH!

  • If i'm not mistaken, in the studio recording the guitarist is using an octave effect, raised one octave. Perhaps a digitech whammy pedal

  • I wonder if they're aware of how good of a song this is.

  • does anybody know what guitar effect he uses in the studio version at the end

  • God this song is grand, I love the little Four Tet intro at the BBC logo......NOICE!?!

  • which Four Tet tracl is it again?

  • It's called "Hands" and it's a first track from "ROUNDS" album!

  • The first song I ever heard by them. It really does transport you to another place.

  • my fave grizzly bear song besides 'while u wait...'

  • this song is beautiful. it takes me somewhere else..........

  • to colorado?

    haha sorry bad joke

  • haha i liked it

  • It doesn't matter how they play it. I get chills every time I hear this song.

  • are they are playing a step down here?

  • it's wonderful, but i love the end and it's not here. bleh :P
