Barrage version with Alicia Enstrom is the unrivaled best version of this song, mostly because they rewrote it (lol). The original isn't much to listen to.
One of the great fiddlers, he, of course, has all the requisite technical skills. But on great and beautiful violin mastepieces, he also displays the soul of a great artist. Mr. Bisengaliev, we want you to record the Bach and Ysaye sonatas.
this is really cool. does anyone know who publishes this transcription? I have seen other violinists perform this for solo violin before, but I never could find the music to it, and I REALLY want to play it. And it gives me another piece that I can use the pain in the ass paganini 5 bowing in! great performance and piece!
barrage doesn't compare to this guy. Look up his bio. I had no idea he was that talented and his rendition is a hundred times more interesting and difficult to play. This guy is amazing.
the barrage version is not really a version of the piece, but a barrage 'show' based on asturias. this performance is more what albeniz had in mind. nothing against barrage, the purpose of barrage is to entertain and make money, and this version of asturias would be really difficult to pull off in a 'show' setting, especially how error prone the jete stroke this version utilizes. but this performance by bisengaliv stands as true art, and not just a show to make money. just my two cents...
@themontyshow Actually, Barrage uses the jete stroke extensively, in every performance. It's been on every album since the beginning, when it features prominently in Seven Wicked Reels.
Well, I also have heard this piece in it's original form for piano, the guitar version including the barage version too which personally I would not put even close to this solo violin version which in my view hit all the right points: excitment, virtuosity and musicality.

i've heared this piece being played by barage, and personally i think it should be played just a bit slower and softer. If he did that i think this would sound amazing.
Well I just love it! so difficult though...don't know many violinists who could play that piece...and like that!!Great arrangement! Will look out for the recording of it :-)
it works for the first minute or two, but because of the nature of the piece, the repetitive ricochet just gets annoying and doesnt fulfil the feel of the music.
He has destroyed the music!! Samvel Yerevinyan plays this piece about a million times better.

Tell me what u want, but my heart beated fiercely 30 minutes after his concert. Marat is great!
I wish you hear Marat's violin in live. You'll never forget the concert..

He ruins the music.
He's just a showboat with no regard for the piece.
This is about as Spanish as a Taco Bell.
His pizzicato is dreadful.
And does he ever look in the mirror and see that ridiculous hairdo?

I don't care much for the song in this medium, and I really don't care about how difficult it is.

@jakaput Did you you know that the piece was written for PIANO??
The guitar version was an adaptation. You don't know how to apreciate good music in mine and others opinions

And then in the middle of the song there's this stupid random plucking, what the hell is that? Any rhythm it pretended to have is then pissed away.

Wow, that got to be hard on violin, I play it on guitar, wich is a much more idiomatic instrument to play it on;-) Nice played;-)
