I place an old rug, and then under rug mat from home depot and finally the pond underlayment, right now its crystal clear, fish all laying low cold temps 40 in the day 35 at night, haven't lost any fish, they are really big now, they grow fast.
I removed the outside filter pump and leave the bottom to upper waterfall pump running and add in the floater de-icer. I also stop feeding the fish when the temp is 50 degrees or lower. They are up now and doing great. Thanks Dave in CT
Wish the bridge wasn't there, would look way better. An yes it may look more Chinese with it but the pond isn't big enough for the size of bridge you have over it. may since your not letting people on it you could go with a smaller looking bridge to get a better dimension in regard the pond. Plz it is very nice and well made it is just you went to all that effort, may as well make it the best it can be. just my thought. But if you like it that what counts.
Thanks for your input, and I wish it wasn't needed but it helps to shade the pond in the heat of the summer and the Koi love to hide under it, help them feel more secure. In the fall as it is now, it help to hold the leave net up and the leaves blow right off, so it has many good feature that are needed. Thanks for your thoughts, ds in ct
I think there is envy writen in that comment, my dad has a simular sized pond with 1pound koi and there fit % healthy, if long if there fed correctly and it's not overstocked then it's fine.
watching this clip is like im watching a scary movie because of the voice of the chinese lady in the background. ahhhhhhhhhhh... jizzed my pant. nice pond though
what happens when the wood rots that you used to hold the soil back or is this not a problem in hotter climates in the uk it would start rotting verry quick due to large amount of rain
I use treated wood, the same grade for outdoor decks, docks etc. It may be better to use cement bricks. So far its been working great, as you said though I live in CT and we have four even seasoons, so it may be differnet for your area. The nicest result is the straight drop when viewing the large koi. There is no shallow to low, it is immediate deep water from the patios edge. Thanks for your comment, good luck on your pond. Dave in CT
Awesome, Dave! Beautiful pond! I was in awe of your 'old' pond, this one is as amazing, if not more. Your craftsmanship and creativity are exceptional. I must see this in person one day.
Thanks, It is holding up great, about 1750 gallons, never need chemicals, OASE UV briton 18 light, Oase filter, and additional pump to pond back water fall filter. Fish are really big now, they wintered beatifully. Dave in CT
Remember that koi pond size doesn't just pertain to the length and width. Just as important is depth. Koi ponds must not be less than 4 feet deep if you want your koi to have good body conformation. Pond is running beautifully this year. Thanks for your comment. ds

Cool video! (5 - STARS!)
Thanks for posting it!
I help run a free Pond share website.
It would be great to have some more pond people join in and share their pictures, videos, and stories.

This pond is too small for koi. Poor fish.
