I'm currently torn between here and Uni of Leeds. I've visited both - for Reading it would be French & Italian, and for Leeds it would be just French. I'm SO torn - because I love the city in Leeds - I know it's a prestigious university, and as a plus - I have family there! I loved Reading because I loved the teachers and professors on my course - hated the actual languages building, but loved things like accommodation and the gym - never looked much at the city. Any advice would be SO helpful!
@Lalalalaboomful haha what a coincidence- I'm from Leeds! I'm actually still in Leeds for the xmas holidays :D They are quite similar though Leeds is much bigger. Reading does have a big shopping centre (The Oracle) and a main shopping street in town though with all the main highstreet shops, only about 25mins walk away from campus. The nightlife is also pretty good, there's something on pretty much all the time from the union, to Q bar, Sakura, Lola Lo if you're into clubs and stuff....
@Lalalalaboomful ..can't say much about Leeds Uni itself (though my dad is a lecturer there) cos I don't go there but Leeds as a city is great, shopping's really good also as it's a huge city, but a lot of Leeds Unis halls are much further from campus compared to Reading- I'm talking early mornings and buses here. I'm doing a life science course so I can't tell you much about the languages department of Reading but I have quite a few friends who just graduated that did French and they loved it.
@Lalalalaboomful Oh and one final thing, sorry- don't worry about the buildings being a bit crap cos they're currently renovating and re-building a lot of the buildings on Whiteknights campus, in the 2 years I've been there, Mackinder, Stenton, Childs Halls, Stenton townhouses, Kendrick Student village have been newly opened. As well as the Hopkins building, Minghella building and changes to the campus shops :)
@Tootz412 Well there're lots of different types of trees! lol jk. But yeah I'd say so, the campus is very nice and green and was a big factor in my decision to come here, there're lots of open spaces and fields. The buildings are all quite close together with the exception of the agriculture, meteorology and psychology buildings which are together. Palmer, HUMSS, the union, union shop and the library are all very close together so that's handy. The lake's also lovely....
@Tootz412 .. It's only about a 30min walk to the town center and the Oracle and the 20 and 21 buses go directly into campus. There's also a smaller campus at Bulmershe but I think that's slowly being closed and another small campus at London Road. There's the main great hall there and it's where some of the exams and graduation is held.
I'm at Reading now for my first year and absolutely loving it!
It is really green and open, people are really nice, food and accommodation are great
For my subject Reading isn't at the top of league tables e.g.Sheffield- but they're quite good academically. Lecturer's are very helpful and encourage you to email or ask if you're not sure about something.
Definately recommend it. Was my insurance choice, I visited once before and liked it but when I got here it far exceeded my expectations =)
I was just made an offer to study Accounting and Financial Management postgraduate programme in Reading, do you guys think this is a good offer? how's the business school of Reading? is Reading famous in the uk and does it have prestigious reputation?
logain does not know what he is talking about - Reading is famous in the UK for teaching a really unusual range of topics...it is a great uni...wish I had chosen it instead of the uni I went to (Durham)
i had just receive the offer today, will be going there this September..I cant wait..

Hi, I'm currently an undergraduate 2nd year student at Reading Uni, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask :)

@AhhMagicLyrics I know this is a bit of a shallow question to ask - but what is the town itself like? Shops / days out / nightlife etc. ?
Lalalalaboomful 2 months ago
@AhhMagicLyrics Thank you :) Is the campus quite diverse?

bachuatoet92 1 year ago
@bachuatoet92 hi, of course I'd be glad to! What would you like to know about?
What subject/course are you applying for? Cos I know that they're very good in meterology, business is quite good too, though I'm doing biochemistry.
Are you applying to go oct '11?
:)
TwiLoverLucy 1 year ago
@TwiLoverLucy yep :D. I intend to study business at Henley.
I am an international student and now I'm a second year student in my country .

@TwiLoverLucy
Would you say the league tables dont do them justice. I put them down as a firm and they seem pretty solid.
