  • this song is the definition of music

  • Comment removed

  • it does take a few listens but, it grows on you

  • I am narrow-minded and I like this, booyaa :3

  • The guy on the dirtbike kicking the spider made me laugh so hard. Holy fuck.

  • Everyone who hates dubstep should listen to this and thank their lucky stars it didn't catch on.

  • @HalfwayCrusader dude what do you mean this didnt catch on this kinda music is being made all over the place constantly. experimenting with music is just something that happens.

  • great video for eating acid.

  • hey indiejew i appriate it like anyone else but it is a bit creepy music...i only checked it out cuz grimes singer found it interesting...now i know how she got some of her style though this is very crazy i think im gunna throw up, excuse me

  • this reminds me of Terry Guetta's "Life Remote Control" from

    "Exit Through The Gift Shop"

  • this was the most intense three minutes and thirty-six seconds of my life.

  • Amazing

  • bd

    swag

  • This makes me love life.

  • @HyeanoftheSea that comment make me laugh because Black Dice is the favorite band of Animal Collective

  • Comment removed

  • @salvadordalionfire That's just like, you're opinion, man.

  • when experimental is good you get Animal Collective. When experimental is bad you get Black Dice.

  • @HyeanoftheSea Couldn't agree more they just have no pattern or rhythm to their music, its just way too hard to follow let alone jam to.

  • @Mastershake722 You can "follow" their music you simple fool, your narrow ears need to listen to the whole piece as one.

  • @HyeanoftheSea Animal Collective are heavily influenced by Black Dice. Their music wouldn't be what it is today without these guys.

  • this song and video is taking control of my body

  • Um, this is fucking amazing.

  • pop art B-)

  • Reminds me of Mr. Oizo's album Mustache: Half a Scissor

  • Um, best video ever?

  • also, that's sly stone at 2:21.

  • did anyone notice the kanji (japanese characters) at 0:46?

  • I'm sorry but you can not seriously say this is a good song.

Maybe it's cool to listen to while on some serious drugs to trip yourself out but there's no soul in this. It's just a loop of random noises making a single rhythm.

  • @slugbeats Maybe it's just not for you. While this isn't Black Dice's best, there is definitely something to it I enjoy

  • At this moment i am high and am totaly NOT enjoying this

  • check out the video i made with some BLACK DICE, yeah.

  • reminds me of "The Books".

  • forbidden planet

  • Ow.

  • Im a big animal collective fan way back to spirit and a friend told me he liked Black Dice and to check em out. So far this is groovey

  • damn this is intense... the backwards jumping cat made me lol xD

  • Fucking SICK!!!!

  • umm... k?

  • I made a video to Black Dice as well, it was fun making it, i love this bands music man, and i love you too.

  • every time i watch this video.......something difrent and new shows up....I love it.

  • simultaneously soothing and disturbing

  • I remember listening to this one acid. I think I began the day at 5 am - listened to Loveless 3 times... then began to despise all music, the only think that made sense was Black Dice and when I stared at any block of text all I could see were the THE's. THE THE THE THE THE THE... only thing that popped out at me throughout the pages and Black Dice's music was this big middle finger to all music... in a fun way.

  • @complacentnation I feel ya

  • I guess I agree with about 95% of the ideas in this video... The twist, and triple cross at the end was predictable as hell, but nauseating none the less... Watch this repeatedly, like I do... Be like me...

  • que horror

  • and the video is great art.

  • @arsviri1 Thats not art its fucking madnESS!!!!!love it.

  • yeah. this is music. :-)

  • why is everyone making a big deal about whether or not this is music? No, it's not Beethoven or the Rolling Stones, but there was music like this already in the 70's before you all were born. The Residents, etc.

  • @MissDroplette I agree that this is music, but the fact that there was music like this in the 70s has nothing to do with that. Thats like saying " I dont get why everyone is making a big deal about whether or not slavery is wrong. There was slavery in the 1800s."

  • The video feels like its crawling on your skin.

  • musical talent at its best.................................................. AAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAa lol

  • Doesn't music consist of sounds?

  • not gonna lie, this song does blow. i like the video though.

  • you whiny hipsters should just shut the fuck up, let the people who actually appreciate different kinds of music, actually enjoy the video. go rant about music and how gay you look at a skittle party.

"this isn't for the sober minds"? what the fuck, drop out of school already.

anyone can enjoy music sober or not. you just appear more trashy if you do it on drugs.

  • @indiejew84 hahhahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahaahhaha

  • @L00pGarou its something more than music

  • @ZACHDISASTER Agreed.

  • it appears that this odd sound is simply organized noise when I am sober, but it sounds like music when I'm high

  • @albinomushroom ya this is just not for the sober minds

  • @clearpancho Really? I don't drink or take any substances [out side of caffine] and I like all of Black Dice's music..... so generalising is probably a bad idea

  • great healthy tips thehealthyresource . com

  • thanks for posting this!

  • thanks for taking the time to lend your knowledge. much appreciated.

  • there's a huge difference between an animal collective fan that has only "my girls" and everything else is KE$HA, lady gaga, rihanna, fall out boy, and etc. on their ipod than a person who listens to animal collective and black dice. a HUGE difference

  • This is pretty much the type of video I expect from Black Dice at this point. No idea what that was, but it's a good song, anyway.

  • Somebody needs to take a video making class

  • @HappyBirthdayKathy Video making did you see that giant spider eat the dude jumping the motorcycle. I know a few spider wrangler's and none have the balls to attempt such a stunt. This is a brilliant piece of art.

  • @jayrob531 shut up. no one cares.

  • @HappyBirthdayKathy Somebody needs to STFU.

  • does anyone know what editing program is used to make video collages like this one. after effects? motion? thanks.

  • @ELARROCK Pretty much anything with Color Keying. I'd personally use After Effects.

  • Just for the record, Animal Collective is an alright band but Merriweather Post Pavilion is one of the most overrated fucking albums ever. Seriously. Sung Tongs is the shit, and their EPs are good, but that album is cancer in mp3 format.

Still not as shitty as Vampire Weekend though.

  • @PeckerwoodCracker Animal Collective is better, but Vampire Weekend is still good brah.

  • Was there a subliminal message in there? I suddenly have an urge for dry toast.

  • not to offend anyone but i bet this is what it feels like to be autistic

  • i dig it. I first started getting into this shit with don cab.

  • I don't understand how black dice could be an influence for owl city, because like, owl city is a little girl.

and if he does have a good taste in music, he does a really terrible job of showing it.

  • wow............

  • this is what happens in my mind when i can't sleep. i love it. amazing appropriation.

  • too cool for mainstream?

  • you hipsters care too much about what's mainstream and what's not mainstream. shouldn't you be focusing on what's good and what's not good?

  • @darcyxxkiddo there are good mainstream bands and good non-mainstream bands. the difference buying non-mainstream bands supports them. buying mainstream music supports a shitty corporate music industry that will suck the blood out of everything we love. so no.. it's not just about what's good. in my opinion

  • @darcyxxkiddo Yeah, I'd imagine if Justin Beiber wasn't famous and was more underground, the hipsters would eat him up.

  • @darcyxxkiddo Maybe "hipsters" do focus on what is good and not good they just have a different opinion of what is good than you.

  • owl city?? Falloutboy?? i don't understand you people.....why the fuck r u here??

  • I just watched two Black Dice videos and both pages of comments had people complaining about Owl City. How does that even come up? TWICE?

  • well owl city is one of black dice's major influences...

  • BAHAHAHAHHAH U PHUNNY

  • Uh, you mean black dice is one of owl city's major influences I hope?

  • this is anything but mainstream you idiot.

owl city is mainstream, now go back to ur corner and listen to falloutboy you respectless fuck

  • yariNL1 thinks this is fagooot.

  • How on earth is this mainstream? XD

  • @yariNL1f you think this is annoying music, go listen to OWL CITY and you will find it fagoot (sic) and annoying, or you will find yourself singing along, which is even more fagoot (sic) and annoying.

I can think of a million reasons why you think this is fagoot (sic), but you are just to lazy to write them down. if you want an argument why its not fagoot (sic) give me a call, and we will do it the grownup why. because now, youre dogma is killing me.

    fagoot! (sic)

  • commercials.. a laugh at society and advertisment.. perhaps

  • damn im still trying to figure out wut i just saw

  • consumerism on acid

  • I hate it when people say videos like this are trippy. Tripping and this video are nothing alike.

  • ahah, not really bra.

  • True, but it is fun to watch when you're tripping.

  • Also, AndrewCosta you're being a fuckhead insulting music that isn't to your taste. This was posted for people to enjoy and discover. You're only making enemies here.

  • I'm in the bathroom :)

  • super.super.super

  • needs moar hisham

  • Saw them in Dallas opening for AC as well. I danced my ass off! It was my 4th time seeing them and by far the best yet. I think that tour was an excellent showcase of how far both bands had progressed. BD's sonic power, in my opinion, created a tough act to follow. The intensity of the show as a whole came to a halt when AC took the stage. But obviously they are two very different bands that take very different approaches to their live shows. I hope both come to Dallas again very soon.

  • shit, me too. I think everyone in the room hated Black Dice but I fuckin loved it

  • this music transcends the 5th dimension

  • Comment removed

  • Oh, you mean their one song...

  • well its more than one

  • If I close my eyes, this "noise" as many of you call it, creates wonderful pictures in my head. I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but that is just because you are naive and closed minded. Open your mind, open your ears, and enjoy :)

  • music has to evolve, so it goes through transitions where artists explore- if you just worked with a different foundation of understanding - like something other than vague concepts like 'good' and 'bad' or 'music' and 'noise'- if you realized that this is just an exploratory step you could see beyond your own opinions and we could actually talk about something other than peoples personal taste.

  • First time I watched this stoned I had to leave the room. I've never been that freaked out before.

  • haha yeah I was just thinking this would probably be too intense to see on psychadelics

  • listened to this song stoned....good experience.expecially at 1:22.and this has good bass in my car.

black dice makes some good fucking music

  • paperrad does it better. there were some nuggets though.

  • Just pause at any frame in the video. So much fantastic stuff in here. XDXDXD

  • OMG! It's like an explosion of awesome in my eyes!!

  • its definitely for people who like to freak out and question their sanity. if you dont like it dont listen to it.

  • I think that some of their recordings are pretty cool.

But yeah, I saw them open for Animal Collective and it was probably the worst band I've ever seen live.

  • shut up

  • Some of the early Animal Collective albums (Danse Manatee, Here Comes the Indian) were closer to this than Merriweather. With Black Dice, unless you listen to them with an open mind and ear, you can't expect to like them. If you want to get into them buy Beaches and Canyons, which is definately the most accesible and arguably the best. You'd be surprised at how much you might like it if you gave it a chance.

  • You're the biggest pussy ever. Animal Collective is awesome and great and all, but still if you like AC, you should AT LEAST understand the Black Dice.

  • Plus, this Is like the BEST video I've ever seen! and WTF, 'My Girls' Was BULLSHIT! okay song, but worst Animal Collective video yet. I wish I could reply to the actual My Girls video, but I can't, so where's the creativity that was involved in Peacebone, and Who Could Win A Rabbit? As far as I'm concerned Animal Collective is getting worse and Black Dice is getting better. "Go where new experiences await you"

  • My Girls was a weird video... had potential though, that style was good. The lips, drippy cube, and all the other weird stuff kind of killed it. :\

But I wouldn't say Animal Collective is getting any worse. Comparing MPP to, say, Hollindagain, or Here Comes the Indian, yes, there is an ENORMOUS difference. But it's normal, and natural for bands to change there style over the years. I personally don't think anyone should be complaining... MPP sounded absolutely marvelous! Possible my favorite.

  • wwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa thats all i read, quit complaining, if you can do better then fucking do it already

  • amazing.

i loved their live show.... i'm actually disappointed by the recordings - not enough ripping apart of my soul

  • Not enough... brain shattering. *drools*

  • SICK LIVE BAND.

  • saw them live on tuesday and it was amazing

  • "Not for pussy ears" means to me, "Not for people who actually like music."

  • I can't stand people saying something isnt music. IT'S FUCKING MUSIC. deal with it. just because you can't get it or don't like it doesn't mean it's not music. I don't like a lot of music but I still recognize it as music. you d-bags are like fucking Sufjan Stevens fans commenting on Enjoy Your Rabbit.

  • I never said that it's not music. It's not particularly musical however. Case in point: when my eardrums nearly burst during their set before seeing AC.

  • any person who does not know/recognize/love black dice, but goes to see animal collective is probably a merriweather post pavilion hipster kid.

when i found out black dice was playing at the animal collective show i was at i nearly died. I probably shoved so many kids to the concrete that day. shit was intense

  • anyone who makes these kind of comments has never seen black dice live or is too far up the ass of AC to realize that animal collective came from just as abstract of a place as Black Dice has

  • Mmm, sorry to say your generalization is wrong. I saw them open for Animal Collective in Dallas, and literally half the crowd held their hands to their ears. I have beef with Black Dice because I had to listen to their goddamn awful live show before AC.

I've also listened to early Animal Collective albums, so yes, I do understand the abstractness of Black Dice. I like the studio version of this song. The problem is that their concerts are just a non-stop 30-minute wall of screeching noise.

  • >implying animal collective is worth listening to

  • >implying that /mu/ is cool

  • If you'd ever seen Animal Collective before Strawberry Jam was released you'd know that a non-stop 30-minute wall of noise is the way they do a set.

  • why do you think they stopped doing that...?

  • i agree with the hipster-kid observation!

don't knock it till you try it, everyone! i didn't understand this music at first, frankly i hated it, but with time you'll love it!

@MtempestV i would like to say everyone should be wearing earplugs, ESPECIALLY at a noise show like black dice

when you're in the music business you HAVE to wear earplugs man, your ears are your life; i laugh at people who say they don't wear earplugs cause they aren't "pussies" as they slowly go deaf show by show!! haha

  • I agree with you ALEKAZAMisback.

I REALLY think people have to understand that music probably started off by hitting a piece of wood against a rock (or something like that). ANYTHING IS MUSIC. THIS IS MUSIC. You might not understand it. They might just be ahead of us.

This might be a beginning to a new type of music. I call it confusion music (idk...)

Expand your thought. Relize this might be the next big thing. Or maybe not.

But I can say that IT IS MUSIC!

  • for real right? im sick of having to explain merzbow or growing to people who like to watch clouds to explosions in the sky.

  • It's not a matter of 'getting it.' I get exactly what black dice are trying to get at with this music, but it doesn't work for me. I could easily sit down on the mac program garage band for 45 minutes and create something similar to this song. Furthermore, my 5 year old cousin also could.

  • I'd like to see you try you dumb motherfucker. creating dischordant chaos in music is just as complex and hard as writing a symphony, in fact the true composers of our age are those who do such things as this. More common artists are merely reinventing the wheel over and over again, because ppl like you refuse to step outside of their comfort zone. You're the saying the same shit that ppl said to beethoven hundreds of years ago. He was in the same position of creating new different music.

  • @healmejohnredcorn comparing black dice to beethoven made me laugh a little. i have nothing against black dice. they are good at their art but there's nothing musical about them. their music is purely rhythmical. not anyone can do it on garageband but i wouldn't go as far as to say you need to be a genius to do it. give me a good 20 pedals and some LSD and i promise you i could come pretty damn close. like i said a respect them in their own form of art.. but they're hardly musical geniuses.

  • yeah, that's pretty fucking ignorant.

  • @Fishboy Yeah, you're right. You guys are all SO open minded for liking this song. Where would we all be without OPEN MINDED people like you in the world?

  • Be quiet homosexual

  • @ALEKAZAMisback Sure it's music...it's just that it's also a trite pile of suck as well. All bands that try really hard to be weird and edgy are just obviously that. This band is what it would sound like if you turned the desperation of people that like the Church of the SubGenius into music.

  • definitely not for pussy ears. and black dice fucking DESTROY live.

  • Comment removed

  • tis amazing

  • stuff NOT intended for pussy ears.

  • agreed, i just saw them open for animal collective, i like their shit on record but their live show made me feel like you need acid to have fun and thats only cause youll be really disturbed

  • Oh, I'm sorry that your hipster ass who jumped on the Animal Collective bandwagon last month couldn't handle the sound that ultimately made Animal Collective who they are today. Fuck you and your ill fitting clothes.

  • hahaha cerally.

  • i get off to whale sex.(marked as spam).

  • glad his comment didnt get under your skin bra! show true wisdom lol. too bad animal collective makes you all angry at the world.

  • @whalesex I just spit milk on my screen I laughed so hard at the ill fitting clothes comment...

  • oooorgasmic

  • i am being brainwashed
