  • Not the best playing I've seen from the UK version.

    A little cringey imo

  • Michael Bay.

  • I'm neither American nor English, but I've had the opportunity to meet both kinds of comedians. British humour is more incisive and almost always gets mundane facts and events to the ridiculous. It's not weird, it's just different to what we've adjusted to because of american television. The Ryan, Colin and Wayne improv is at its' best, but believe me, there are amricans who are a lot worse than what you've seen here.

  • Goddamn this was awful. ~Cringe~

  • Did Mike McShane's pay heed to when Marlon Brando won the Oscar for his part in 'The Godfather'?

  • quadruple fail

  • Only the woman's ones and the one following directly after that were good.

  • Guess where I've hitten my reward? xD

    Love tony. Seriously.

  • Wheres his Willie!!!!

  • 1:36 - Love Tony's old man voice.

  • ...british humor, i don't get it

  • Comment removed

  • ... fail...

  • Tony was always amazing on Whose line and is still amazing in his more recent work. Plus he's just a flat out cutie. ;)

  • lol this was in the late 80s or early 90s jeezus what do you expect it to be like

  • i agree to some extent, the first season of the UK was a test run and the contestants were just getting warmed up, it got better every season in my opinion. but don't look over the many talented people from the UK version, equally as talented as Ryan, Colin, and Wayne

  • the other whose line is way funnier

i ask my self why i watched this?

  • 'I'd like to tell my costar helena "ur a talentless bitch'

    brilliant

  • John Sessions is really not very funny here...

  • he's not funny in general

  • "Guess where I've hidden my reward" lol!

And the turrets one was great, too

  • Mike McShane (sp), Josie Lawerence, Tony Slattery, and not sure about the guy on the far right. Clive Anderson is the host.

  • The man on the right is John Sessions.

  • Ah, right :)

  • (and not Milligan, Cleese, or Everett)

  • Christ if you don't like the video don't watch it you idiot.

  • I miss Tony. It's a shame that he's battling bi-polar disorder (hugs for him).

  • Tony is my favorite contestant on the show.

  • no way, that gud (and Tony) made the British WILLA what it was

  • Actually he's really funny, and quick. They're all great.

  • "I'd just like to say to my co-star Helena... that she's a talentless bitch." (Another classic from Tony - couldn't get any better than that, and even get away with it at the same time!)

  • Don't you find the way they play artificial?

  • The audience sounds dead most of the time.

  • Ahh... the good old days of the early episodes. They are the best!

  • OMG CLIVE HAS HAIR!!!!!!!!

  • Comb- over.

  • I love how much more they get away with on the UK version!

  • i like the whose line with collin drew ryan better

  • Do not like the us version really. It is way too formal, the audience clap to everything and it throws the improvisation bit out of the window.

You should watch some of the other uk ones cos there are better episodes.

  • I always thought the uk version was way too formal :P

  • i agree, but sometimes the US audience are to over the top which kinda wrecks it a bit

  • Yeah, I think you're right about the US audience, also the lack of variation of performers.

  • Well, you know, Colin and Ryan were on the UK version too. I really enjoy both versions and the people on them. I tolerate Drew.

  • Is the guy on the far right with the bad hair John Sessions?

  • tony look gorgous in this

but then again he looks gorgous in every thing

    I LOVE TONY XXXXXXX

  • no he isnt

  • no, Clive is awesome.

  • Clive is a legend...Won't hear a bad word said about him.

  • @Loz1234567 .....Which one is Clive?

  • @CourtneySchiffert Clive's the host, if you're still wondering (you're probably not, though...:P)

  • @Buszke Haha, it's okay, I like to know anyway haha.

  • Everyone loves Tony

  • I love TONY SLAttery

  • Lol I Love Them Both I Think Tony Slattery And Wayne Brady Are Incredible Improv Comedians , But Guys Remember There Would Be No American Version With Us Brits So At Least Show A Little Respect , And To Who Ever Said The British One Is Better , With The American You Probably Wouldn't Even Lik Whose Line!

    Peace Folks Peace!

  • I Meant To Say *With Out* ( If You Had Not Guessed

  • AMEN!

  • Sorry...I'm just curious...why did you capitalize all of your words?

  • If You Mean me..Er Its Just A Habit I Havent Been Able To Get Out Of..Sorry If Its Distracting..Lol

  • does there HAVE to be a USxUK argument AT ALL? for goodness sakes - I enjoy both versions - I get both brit humor and US humor

I didn't put this up to have people jumping each other over something like that! enjoy the video guys, and if you don't, move along and search for the US ones, there are plenty of great ones!

    cheers!

  • I agree 100%.

  • @dennywan its always good to post the video just for curiosity sake

but because im from the US alot of this humor doesnt make sense to me

which is why i prefer the american version

  • @czam425 I understand that. when I first came in contact with british humor (it wasn't even through whose line) I was kind of puzzled too as to why that was funny - but with time and as I came more into contact with UK stuff in general i started to get it lol. anyways I was just complaining about the people that were chewing each other over it, I'm ok if people don't think it's funny, we're all different ;)

  • And, finally: Oh, and those of you who diss Drew Carey or Wayne Brady, get out of here with that bullshit. They are more funny then the UK, because they have MODERN jokes. Drew is funny, that is why he has gotten the part. Quizzical, I know! And Wayne is talented, you guys just wish you could make improv songs as fast as him.

  • To all of the children downing the comments saying the U.S. version is better, get the FUCKING HELL OVER IT. This was made in NINTEEN EIGHTY EIGHT, WE DON'T GET THE JOKES BACK THEN.

  • Drew Carey, Wayne Brady, Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie can keep up with the times, as well as Brad Sherwood, Greg Proops, Robin Williams (He was on once), Chip Esten, as well as Jeff Davis.

  • I've just downed all three of your comments not because you like the US version better (honestly, I don't really care), but because I think you're a jerk. :)

About UK WL being too old for modern audiences...I love British WL. A lot. It's my absolute favorite TV show of all time. I don't think the good-but-not-amazing US version compares.

I'm also a fifteen-year-old American female attending high school in the Deep South. :)

  • PS, what's the use-by date for comedy? I found some 1920's silent movies on the intrawebs I wanted to watch, but if I'm apparently risking my life by watching old-school WL, would I be better off dumping them into a radioactive waste facility so as to not cause a worldwide pandemic brought on by expired humor?

  • You should keep personal info to yourself o.O'''

But anyways, I like both the U.S. and U.K. version equally. They both have their ups and downs, Ryan is my favorite though...

  • I totally agree with you. Except I'm neither 15 nor American. :)

  • funnily enough, Mike Mc Shane is the only american in this particular episode.

btw. i think his indian chief is great...

  • i love that tony fella

  • this was before Colin & Ryan came in.

  • the UK version RULES, best people r. Colin, Ryan Tony, and Greg proops, any one no if theres ever been an epi with them 4 in it.

  • i agree with you and colin n ryan work so well together

  • yeh seeing an episode of the UK version with just Ryan or just collin on there own dont seem right

  • I like the girl. She was pretty funny.

  • It was not what I expected. I think the American version has more modern jokes but even though Colin and Ryan were not there, I still chuckled a little bit.

  • of course it has more modern jokes! This was filmed in 1988! :D

  • Ha. ?

  • Never seen one without Colin and Ryan... it wasnt very good.

  • Although the funniest on the UK version were usually Ryan/Colin etc, but the UK version is so much funnier than the US one. It is whitty and quick, the US version is just loud.

  • that big guy is my favorite....he is so dam funny

  • the u.k version isnt funny compare to the u.s

  • The uk version can be as funny, when they have colin and ryan on...

Though it's interesting to see Paul Merton on here because now he is the funniest man alive,

  • at least in the uk version they can swear

  • its not the same without ryan, colin and greg

  • yeah it is..........mostly because collin ryan wayne and brad

  • yea im from the uk and i cant get the us version :( but ive seen some on here and they are so much funnier

  • the us version is on five US if you have sky or freeveiw or something like that

  • I HATE Wayne on the u.s version omg and drew. The u.s. audience whoop squeal and make rediculous noises at anythingso thats why i cant stand it. Ryan and colin are always funny though and both versions

  • Wayne Brady is basically a guy they got on the show to placate people who just want to whoop and cheer at him dancing and making stupid stereotypical "I'm a black guy!" jokes, instead of actually being witty and funny. It's one of the worst things about the US version.

  • I totally agree with you on this one. He always over-acts things and just makes sure it is no longer funny. And then, whenever he can, he'll just break into song and dance to make the crowd woop. Gah.

  • The UK version Rocks! It came before the US version anyway.

    Tony Slattery is great!

  • so is your face

  • Tony slattery and steve frost are funny english guys on it

  • Im English but the UK version had pretty boring guys on it apart from the US guys...could have been cast better but still funny, Colin Mochrie & Ryan Stiles always made me laugh the hardest legends

  • What about Tony Slattery?

  • he was on off, sometimes he was funny sometimes he was just to bouncy and got on my tits a bit...its better when the guys have chemistry and most of the time i didn't see it.

  • There were boring people on it in the earlier series, before they found a good core of people who worked consistently (Slattery, McShane, Stiles, Mochrie, Lawrence, Proops, etc).

The US version took it too far ... they thought "these three people work well, so we'll just have them on every single week". Worst decision ever ... you put the same improv actors on the same show every episode for 8 seasons, it gets so stale and killed the show.

  • what rot!

  • so is your mum

  • bollocks....im not saying anderson is good either but drew is deffinatly not better...he is a shit host and they could of done better

  • Which is better than Drew Carey telling his "hilarious little quips" and then laughing for a full goddam minute at every one while everyone else pretends he's actually being funny? Or him repeating every single funny thing the improv-ers said over and over like a little kid?

  • haha coincidentaly...just like you

  • So you like to watch? Very nice to know, you perv.

  • Mike McShane says so much with so little in his bit at 1.30... Brilliant.

  • The last dude looks like Russell Crowe a little bit.

  • that's John Sessions and yeah he does lol

  • Whose line is just one of those shows that will always be good. UK or US

  • that's hillarious, i like both the UK and American versions

  • Quite funny, thanks for posting it, nice to have some variety ^_^

  • Heh....Slattery and World's worst...Anyone else think it is a recipe for hilarity?

  • Mock the week owns this

  • grrr john sessions lol i dunno i find him kinda irritateing as in he talks to much the best game iv seen him in his were he inpersanates a minstril, if anyone has that uploading it would be much appreciated! :P

  • wanker wanker wanker

  • "I'd just like to say to my co-star Helena... that she's a talentless bitch." Just *had* to come from Tony Slattery!

  • Its funny when he club's himself. The audience claps LOL!

  • Well Whose line started in the UK and then moved to the US.

  • I only laughed cause this video was not in one way funny. The audience agreed.

  • No kidding. It wasn't horrible, the audience just wanted to see Colin and Ryan.

  • Its because the actor's though it was funny buy it wasnt the actors just overacted.

  • What?

  • dw lol

  • They weren't in "Whose Line..." yet. Ryan would join in the next series, and Colin would join some one or two series after that

  • They hadn't even heard of Ryan and Colin yet, though Ryan would show up not too long after. Colin...still had to wait three years.

  • "I only laughed cause this video was not in one way funny. The audience agreed. "

So why do the audience laugh and clap at regular intervals ?

Never confuse the more reserved and intelligent UK WL audiences with the dumbed down US WL audience who WHOOP and clap at everything, whether it's funny or not - especailly at the repetitive hack Wayne Brady.

  • i agree i like both of them but people from the UK have MUCH more class

  • They wernt claps of laughter they had to clap otherwise there would have been an awkwards silence.

  • I'm an American and I personally love the UK version more than the American one. It had more of a variety of actors. I'm sick of watching the American version and seeing the same 3 people in every episode with only one variant.

    I miss Clive Anderson.

  • FFS, not yet another inane comment about the U.S version being sooooo, like, better than the British original, I really don't see why it has to be made into a competition. Anyway, Colin and Ryan honed their skills on the UK version, they weren't all that great to start off with.

  • omg this is SOOOOO boring the american version is SOOOO much better, but i have 2 admit, these guys are REALLY good at imitating voices

  • this is boring...............

  • the song that they did at the end of this episode is one of the greatest moments in WLIIA history, if anybody could upload that it would be rather super.

  • These guys really know how to imitate voices.

  • Tony Slattery was the best Whose Line castmember ever. The fact that he was fired for obscenity is testament to this.

  • Comment removed

  • this was the first series. it had to start somewhere.

  • Count your lucky stars ... if this show was American it would've been cancelled long before they were able to get the formula right.

  • well i like the american version more, probably because when i watch the british one it still had the main guys, colin mocherie, ryan stiles, greg proops, and uh that brad guy. and wayne brady. *last names possible spelled wrong* anyway i remember the host back when he did brittish one but drew is funnier

  • Mike was the best back then. It's too bad he doesn't do it anymore=(

  • "Where's his willy?"

  • man the usa version is so much funnier

  • NO DUH!!!

  • yea but if u go on proper wliia fan sites and stuff everyone favours the UK one!

  • This is an 'average' sketch. But still, give me the UK version any day.

  • lol I'd just like to say to my co-star helena...that she's a talentless bitch! Tony's so awesome!

  • not funny, these guys suck

  • i heart tony, he is sooooo funny

  • ROFLMAO

  • I agree with Fireballil - Tony was hilarious and his last one was funny As was his first one when he chucked the award.

  • Tony's last one was my favorite...'Guess where I've hidden my award!'

  • tony is AWESOME

  • Who's that guy on the far right? Looks familiar...O_O;

  • John Sessions.

  • Aint it Mike?

  • Tony's a HOTTIE!

  • The only funny one was, "...where's his willie?"

  • Mike was great in this one.

  • lol josie does a great impression of barbara windsor XD
