I will give you an example.....how many of us were told that the animals went into the Ark "two by two".....you have to read the Bible that it does not say that...I have listened, read and seen so many articles on Jews, Christians, Muslims, New Age, Wiccan, etc., just about anything you can imagine. Wiccans will tell you that they believe in a god, so is it the same god of the Christians/Jews? Of course not. Now you see that the distortion of the Gospel is very dangerous.

I personally believe that spreading the gospel means following it too. Once others see how we carry ourselves, once others see our success, then they will willingly want to know what we're doing. They will ask us.

I understand what you are referring to, but if the Gospel was told to 100 people only one converted to reading the Gospel, you can call it success because you had no one in the beginning. The missionaries are admirable folks to give their time to spread the Truth to those that don't know or know little. I agree, it can be idolotry, but at the same time we know Jesus was not a poor man because he needed a treasurer and they cast lots for his garments when he was gone. He lived a simple life but had enough to pay his own way and be generous to others in meeting needs. Solomon had wealth, David had wealth and God used them. David paid for God's temple! So on one hand, wealth cant be our focus (1 Tim 1:6) Yet, We cant spread the gospel without money so again, where your treasure is..(Luke 12:14)

Many think it is ok to continue in habitual sin. Here is a gauge for all people.. Are we so confident in our salvation that when we die, we would be EXCITED to face God on judgement day because we KNOW what he has required of us in this life? Or are we just wishing and hoping that we make it in? The bible is clear - those who continue in habitual sin and dont repent and wont change WILL NOT see heaven.
I agree that Joel's message is extremely "lightweight". It's more pop-psych than anything else.

It is the Gospel he preaches. Not one of repentence,which Jesus taught, meaning TURNING from sin and following Christ, but of unconditional grace..regardless of what we do. Take some time and look at the promises of God, almost always, they are almost always conditional. for example most of his promises say "If You":

Unfortunately, the bible tells us that ALL sin and fall short of the glory of God. There is no escaping sin. And what Joel Osteen is doing is exactly what the bible warns us about.

People who hate to listen to men and women of God speak positive about the love of God often struggle so hard with sin in their lives. People know that they need help, they don't wnt to hear a meessage to beat them up, they need the truth of Gods word to tell them how to make their life better. Joel's message is from God and backed up by the Bible. Romans 12 tells us to transform our ming. Phil. 4 tells us to think on good things. Prov. 10:12 says hate stirs up strife but love covers all.
if you support him don't argue with the haters. just watch the sermons and make a positive comment. when you talk about spirituality with people talk about what you love, talk about what works, for yourself and for the proliferation of this new thought. the haters and fear mongers will self destruct.
Joel has lead more people to Jesus in the last week than most of you armchair preachers will in your life. While you are busy with this stupidity he is winning souls for Jesus.

Joel does not preach on sin or our need for daily repentance. As for "keeping strife out of my life" even Jesus said if we are living as He did then we would be persecuted! joel osteen is a very high caliber man and a real gentleman and has true insight and philosophical wisdom that most psychologists can't touch. i am just not takin in by the god word in his sermons. his remedies of how to take strife with a grain of salt and how to avoid it and how to deal with stress and marriages is phenominal, i just think it is a strong mind and willpower doing the work, not god.

Jesus never once said that life would be easy, in fact he said opposite. He said in this life you WILL have tribulation. But I would sure rather go through those things with him by my side than without.

We are sinners, who need the Lord Jesus Christ, and his payment at the cross for us. That's the good news. The "good news" preached without the cross as it's foundation, is a false message. And the Savior, who is being rejected, will later be the Judge.
This was a good message. This message was for people who want to grow in their faith, not for people who need the gospel message. Maybe his teaching isn't perfectly accurate, but no one's perfect. He had some good insights.
No one is 100% straight on. The one thing that makes me enjoy Joel Osteen so much is that I've found him easy to follow and understand. The fact he doesn't constantly ask for money is a plus too :p

I have nothing against Joel osteen, he comes out as a bloke you can trust. Back in my home country Zambia i used to watch him on christian TV and i came up with the same concerns that he fails short of bringing out the deeper truths of the Gospel and this discouraged me from watching his sermons. The problem a lot of self-proclaimed "Christians" have with Joel Osteen is that he's not mean. He's also not political (i.e., he doesn't tell people to vote Republican.) Thank God for this man and his preaching. He's a breath of fresh air.
Joel is a bubble gum preacher. We are all sinners and we all need redemption and Joel does not say word one of this, he does not use the Scripture convict. Everyday I am still a man in need of a Savior. Not for my own glory but for the Glory of God!!! I deserve hell but through the grace of the Sacrifice of Jesus I am saved, and will serve the Living God for all eternity to Him be all the Glory, Honor, and Praise.
I don't understand why people are judging this man. People naturally fear what is new or misunderstood. And a preacher that always has a positive message and avoids negative things is just that "different" I don't think that negates the validy of his words or if he is sincere. The problem I have with Joel's message is that it does not talk to the condition of man's sinfulness and God's justice for that sin, and that fact that while we still sinners Jesus died for us. All it talks about is how we can get this or how we can achieve that if we just beleive. This is not the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I'm sure he ministers to some "itching ears" in much of what he does, but he does seem to have real gift. It is between him and his Lord at the judgment seat of Christ as to his "selling" of it. His use of money is far different than someone like George Muller, but who of us are like George Muller these days?
It is a sad thing when a man who purports to be a minister of the Gospel "likes to start each week with something funny" - rather than with the Word of God. When he is more concerned with pleasing people ("you sound great today as usual") than preaching truth. God says, "Count it all joy when you fall into various trials [read: STRIFE], knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience..." (James 1:2-4) It is so easy to think this all sounds real nice - but it is not about God's Word.

I think people espcially Christains are too judgemental of other Christians he is allowed to make money. That is jealousy speaking I think. Most of these tv preachers make money from their books. People who have the talent and gift to write books and sell products deserve to make money from what they write.
Yep, I dont think he takes any money from church anymore. His income is from his book and seminar. My husband and I listen to Joel preach almost everyweek. We can feel God speaks to us with his message. God gives us strength and hope for our future. God really use him to spread the word. I wish Lakewood church is in Colorado. Joel is full of wisdom. His message sinks down on the inside to every person that listens diligently. Sad to say some people are just faultfinders and love only to point out the flaws of people and always find ways to tear them down that's why they live pretty miserable lives. If Joel gets paid well for what he does, good for him. He encourages people, and in spite of what some "Pentecostal types" think, He does lead people to Jesus. I am always inspired by listening to Joel Osteen and I KNOW that he brings joy and good to the world! I'm pretty sure he makes less money than most professional athletes so I won't begrudge him his income.

Joel did an excellent job explaining how not to create drama in your life. This is an excellent sermon this one really helped me let go of anger I personally had.

Oh by the way, if I were you I would not use the NIV or any other "mordernized" versions because with the case of the NIV there are over 50,000 words changed overall. They are dangerous and poisonous to all saved people.
Do you think that the Spirit of God is not able to speak to a person thru His Word because the translation a person uses is not the King James Version? The KJV is not the original language the that scriptures were written in.
I think its pretty obvious that our Bible is not written in Arameaic but the KJV is the most ACCURATE translation we have. The newer versions have many missing things that dramatically affect the overall message of that verse and in some instinces, casting doubt on the divinity of Christ
Preacherman20, please would you address my previous question, "Do you think that the Spirit of God is unable to speak to a person thru His Word because the translation a person uses is not the King James Version?". You should try spending time meditating on the Bible, NIV translation, and see if God will speak to you the same as He would thru the KJV. Did the Lord speak to you, telling you that the KJV is the only translation that He can speak thru?
If its not his complete, infallable word, then no. This is the case with all the modernized versions. They are not the complete infallable word of God. Plus the NIV is so full of error I would never touch it.
First of all the book of Psalms says that the words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried seven times over. Based on my investigative studies I have found that the newer versions are anything but the pure words of God. They are full of error and in some cases missing words! How then can God speak though something that is not his complete and infallable words?
If you know Joel Osteen you know he is an encourager...he encourages believers to live the best lives they can and to understand that God is on their side when they attempt to change the way they think and act.

Yes, the Word does tell us to make peace with those who aren't saved. Jesus was the friend of sinners. He spent time with them and by his love, he led them to The Way. He didn't hide the truth, He lived it, my friend.
Not in the instance that Joel is saying. Joel is trying as if you read the title promoting that we can keep strife out of our lives by going around and making peace with everyone. This is a very unscriptural message because being a true peacemaker is all about patience. It is also wrought by faithfully turining the other cheek.
The best way to keep strife out of our lives is to avoid contact with sinners Psalm chapter 1. Also we are to avoid useless arguements that bring strife, not walk around trying to be a pacifist in everyone elses matters.
I dont like messages that are self focused and not God focused. I just dont believe his messages line up with the word of God, he doesnt even believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ. "Jesus is the only way, the truth and the life", AMEN!

Amen Preacherman. God never intended life to be simple and nice and easy. Joel doesn't challenge Christians to deeply explore the mysteries of God's Word. He doesn't teach from the Bible or allow God to speak through him, but rather delivers his own feel good messages which are all self-focused and not God-focused.

I personally believe that spreading the gospel means following it too. Once others see how we carry ourselves, once others see our success, then they will willingly want to know what we're doing. They will ask us.
However if we start telling people they are wrong, they will stand steadfast in their previously held beliefs and not believe a word we are saying. Nobody will ever learn anything they don't want to. IMO the best way to spread it is to practice it and let God do the rest.

I understand what you are referring to, but if the Gospel was told to 100 people only one converted to reading the Gospel, you can call it success because you had no one in the beginning. The missionaries are admirable folks to give their time to spread the Truth to those that don't know or know little. No doubt, you will have those that will stand firm and go against you because they think they are so smart and know it all. But that's when I let the Bible do the talking.

I agree, it can be idolotry, but at the same time we know Jesus was not a poor man because he needed a treasurer and they cast lots for his garments when he was gone. He lived a simple life but had enough to pay his own way and be generous to others in meeting needs. Solomon had wealth, David had wealth and God used them. David paid for God's temple! So on one hand, wealth cant be our focus (1 Tim 1:6) Yet, We cant spread the gospel without money so again, where your treasure is..(Luke 12:14)

Are we so confident in our salvation that when we die, we would be EXCITED to face God on judgement day because we KNOW what he has required of us in this life? It is the Gospel he preaches. Not one of repentence,which Jesus taught, meaning TURNING from sin and following Christ, but of unconditional grace..regardless of what we do. Take some time and look at the promises of God, almost always, they are almost always conditional. for example most of his promises say "If You":

Gods Word is His will, Joel speaks Gods word by teaching us to transform our minds according to Gods word. The scripture says as a man thinks in his heart so is he, Proverbs 23:7.

Unfortunately, the bible tells us that ALL sin and fall short of the glory of God. There is no escaping sin. And what Joel Osteen is doing is exactly what the bible warns us about.

People know that they need help, they don't wnt to hear a meessage to beat them up, they need the truth of Gods word to tell them how to make their life better. Joel's message is from God and backed up by the Bible. Romans 12 tells us to transform our ming. Phil. 4 tells us to think on good things. Prov. 10:12 says hate stirs up strife but love covers all.

joel osteen is a very high caliber man and a real gentleman and has true insight and philosophical wisdom that most psychologists can't touch. i am just not takin in by the god word in his sermons. his remedies of how to take strife with a grain of salt and how to avoid it and how to deal with stress and marriages is phenominal, i just think it is a strong mind and willpower doing the work, not god.

I have nothing against Joel osteen, he comes out as a bloke you can trust. Back in my home country Zambia i used to watch him on christian TV and i came up with the same concerns that he fails short of bringing out the deeper truths of the Gospel and this discouraged me from watching his sermons. apparently he spent 17 years cutting up his fathers sermons and called them his own. He didnt have any formal training at college and only lasted a semester.

The problem a lot of self-proclaimed "Christians" have with Joel Osteen is that he's not mean. He's also not political (i.e., he doesn't tell people to vote Republican.) Thank God for this man and his preaching. He's a breath of fresh air.

Joel is a bubble gum preacher. We are all sinners and we all need redemption and Joel does not say word one of this, he does not use the Scripture convict. Everyday I am still a man in need of a Savior. Not for my own glory but for the Glory of God!!! I deserve hell but through the grace of the Sacrifice of Jesus I am saved, and will serve the Living God for all eternity to Him be all the Glory, Honor, and Praise.

I don't understand why people are judging this man. People naturally fear what is new or misunderstood. And a preacher that always has a positive message and avoids negative things is just that "different" I don't think that negates the validy of his words or if he is sincere. The problem I have with Joel's message is that it does not talk to the condition of man's sinfulness and God's justice for that sin, and that fact that while we still sinners Jesus died for us. All it talks about is how we can get this or how we can achieve that if we just beleive. This is not the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I'm sure he ministers to some "itching ears" in much of what he does, but he does seem to have real gift. It is between him and his Lord at the judgment seat of Christ as to his "selling" of it. His use of money is far different than someone like George Muller, but who of us are like George Muller these days?

It is a sad thing when a man who purports to be a minister of the Gospel "likes to start each week with something funny" - rather than with the Word of God. When he is more concerned with pleasing people ("you sound great today as usual") than preaching truth. God says, "Count it all joy when you fall into various trials [read: STRIFE], knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience..." (James 1:2-4) It is so easy to think this all sounds real nice - but it is not about God's Word.

Do you know that his first book "YOUR BEST LIVE NOW" was number 1 bestseller? I think people espcially Christains are too judgemental of other Christians he is allowed to make money. That is jealousy speaking I think. Most of these tv preachers make money from their books. People who have the talent and gift to write books and sell products deserve to make money from what they write.

Yep, I dont think he takes any money from church anymore. His income is from his book and seminar. My husband and I listen to Joel preach almost everyweek. We can feel God speaks to us with his message. God gives us strength and hope for our future. God really use him to spread the word. I wish Lakewood church is in Colorado. Joel is full of wisdom. His message sinks down on the inside to every person that listens diligently. Sad to say some people are just faultfinders and love only to point out the flaws of people and always find ways to tear them down that's why they live pretty miserable lives. If Joel gets paid well for what he does, good for him. He encourages people, and in spite of what some "Pentecostal types" think, He does lead people to Jesus. I am always inspired by listening to Joel Osteen and I KNOW that he brings joy and good to the world! I'm pretty sure he makes less money than most professional athletes so I won't begrudge him his income.

Agreed. There is nothing wrong with providing messages of hope, prosperity and living happily through God. I would rather look to him as a leader and example than any Hollywood celebrity or professional athlete now.

Oh by the way, if I were you I would not use the NIV or any other "mordernized" versions because with the case of the NIV there are over 50,000 words changed overall. They are dangerous and poisonous to all saved people.

Do you think that the Spirit of God is not able to speak to a person thru His Word because the translation a person uses is not the King James Version? The KJV is not the original language the that scriptures were written in.

I think its pretty obvious that our Bible is not written in Arameaic but the KJV is the most ACCURATE translation we have. The newer versions have many missing things that dramatically affect the overall message of that verse and in some instinces, casting doubt on the divinity of Christ

You should try spending time meditating on the Bible, NIV translation, and see if God will speak to you the same as He would thru the KJV. If its not his complete, infallable word, then no. This is the case with all the modernized versions. They are not the complete infallable word of God. Plus the NIV is so full of error I would never touch it.

First of all the book of Psalms says that the words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried seven times over. Based on my investigative studies I have found that the newer versions are anything but the pure words of God. They are full of error and in some cases missing words! How then can God speak though something that is not his complete and infallable words?

Not in the instance that Joel is saying. Joel is trying as if you read the title promoting that we can keep strife out of our lives by going around and making peace with everyone. This is a very unscriptural message because being a true peacemaker is all about patience. It is also wrought by faithfully turining the other cheek.

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
Also, Romans 12:18...If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

Amen Preacherman. God never intended life to be simple and nice and easy. Joel doesn't challenge Christians to deeply explore the mysteries of God's Word. He doesn't teach from the Bible or allow God to speak through him, but rather delivers his own feel good messages which are all self-focused and not God-focused.
