What makes you better if you knew this song before Family Guy? What makes us worse if we knew it on Family Guy? Bunch of bitches looking for thumbs up...
Who cares if Family Guy brought you here, just enjoy the video. Seriously, just because you knew something before a popular thing advertised it doesn't make you better than someone else who got curious, it just makes you annoying. That's like me messing with my little cousin for just getting into MJ's music after he died, she just was never introduced to his music and needed a little push to hear a quility musician. I'm sick of people begging for thumbs up on stupid shit like this. Damn... -_-
Christ, I haven't seen this since I was a kid in the 70's! All I remember about it was the intro, in fact... it came on just before my bedtime, and I always thought it was about a lady on tranquilizers or something (listen to 0:39.) Funny how kids hear things. Anyway, thanks for posting this!
My mom used to dress like Maude; she was tall, too. I loved it. Great memories of the 1970s. I remember Monday nights at 9:30, just would watch the show to hear this theme song; I was only 10, so it was still a little above my understanding.
I was about six or seven when Maude first aired. I didn't watch Maude because this show was completely over my head but I danced to the theme song and wondered why the adults were cracking up so hard!
I am 15, I was brought here by the Golden Girls. :D I love how Bea's characters are always snappy with quick comebacks and remarks, both in GG and Maude. :D
Respond to this video... The 2nd best TV theme of all time (Good Times was a little better!) But the irony of a sassy 70s R&B song about a bossy self-befuddling middle aged white liberal is too funny for words. This just could not happen on TV today. It wouldn't have the same effect in an age when every human activity is presented as ironic.
The show was hysterical and a landmark. It also showed that liberals don't have all the solutions although they think they do, and can be just as wrong and stubborn as conservatives. But by 1978 the show ran out of steam like all the other social comedies of the 1970s. Just like fashion, tv shows go out of style as well.
@johnwallaceist I agree, I love Bea Arthur as Dorothy on The Golden Girls, as well as her movies, specials and live shows she did. Just didn't care for her as Maude. I found the character pretty annoying.
@Brdj010 ........i would guess by your webpage of p.j. o'rourke quotes that you might dislike maude. but cant you see how they made her look like a liberal goofball in the same way they made archie bunker look like a conservative goof ball?
WTF happened to Antenna TV???? I got it for a few weeks and was watching shows like this that I thought I wouldn't like but actually find hilarious.... Then one day Antenna TV just disappeared.... Where am I going to get my "Good Times" fix now???
@deanof76 I'm still getting Antenna TV here in Philly... must be something channel specific? I love it too--there's so many of these good shows I was too young to see the first time around.
@mnestic Hey!! So it miraculously just started working again.... I wonder if it was just a problem in my area or on my tv..... Thanks for the info and have a great day!!

I love Maude & Walter! The perfect couple! ;-) lines as "God'll get ya' for that" & "(loud) Maude, sit" are lines that get me tears from my eyes from laughing so much! Thanks to the creator & writers of this show for such an excellent sitcom!
Maude is one of my favorite shows of all time..she is so funny and clever and makes me laugh..I am so glad the show was created..I now watch it every day on Antenna TV..god bless Maude
So many people who watch Family Guy don't understand half the jokes in Famlly Guy, mainly because they are too young and uniformed . The show is constantly making reference to 70's and 80's life, pop culture and politics - the parady of Maude is just one example.
@guyinfl99 true dat. I'm 18 and i understand some of them due to my love of 80s movies and the likes such as the references to fast times at ridgemont high, 16 candles and the likes. However, most people my age would not get them. I didn't get the maude one initially until i realised bea arthur was maude before the golden girls so i started to watch it. I quite enjoy it for its liberal style.
@667neighborofdabeast It's nice to see someone younger who understands that the world existed before they did and who has the intillectual curiousty to learn about the past. Seth MacFarlane is about 40, not a teenager like a lot of Family Guy viewers, so if your view of the world only starts in the 1990's there is no way you can appreciate the show fully.
@guyinfl99 I don't watch Family Guy, so I didn't know that. I give them mad props for keeping the '70s and '80s alive in current society. I'm very partial to both of those decades :)
When I first heard "Joan of Arc was a with the Lord to guide her, she was a sister who really cooked" I turned to my mom and asked, "Didn't Joan of Arc get burned at the stake?"
@vulcangrl13 Lady Godiva was a Freedom Rider, she didn't care if the whole world looked. Joan of Arc with the lord to guide her, she was a sister who really cooked. Isadora was the first "bra burner" and you're glad that she showed up. And when the country was falling apart, Betsy Ross got it all sewed up. The references to these 4 women are parallel to the character Bea Arthur played in the series Maude.
@LiveForFunny why would I want to do that? No offense-it's just every time I come here because I saw "x" on "y", there's someone demanding I thumb them up. So, really, I'm just curious. Is there a reason? Or is it because someone else did it? I'm really not trying to be a jerk, I just was hoping someone could enlighten me.
@salfordguy69 It was shown in the UK, but late on in the Yorkshire region. The Paul O'Grady Show also tweaked the theme tune to go 'and then there's Paul...'
