@smk242 anyhow its so awsome!!! and make me 1 more fun of Magpies :D nice video too, u dont cut it of on 30 second but u let us see the whole 9 yards!!!
@smk242 Hi, I have a lot of these birds around home (we call them picarazas) They use the same trick with my dog. While one throws leaves the others bite the dog's tail (a Golden retriever with a yellow big tail) But haha, my dog runs away and goes back home.
Oh wow, the first thing I thought when I saw the video was that all the birds in the area sounded familiar, and then found it this is actually Dutch, which is interesting since I wake up to the sounds of magpies, doves and sparrows.
I'm actually surprised at that European Magpies sound like that (more like a rattle than a bird). I sort of expected them to sound (and look) like... well... Maggies.
It's funny that, I knew that European Magpies were corvids (in the same family as crows) and Australian Magpies were related to butcher-birds, but watching them on youtube has really brought home the difference.
@JamesFoster83 ahah mate dont comment on shit you know nothing about, brain mass means absolutely nothing, there are hundreds of animals with brains much bigger than humans, its the connection between the neurons in the brain which form intelligence and cognitive thought, don't try and convey knowledge by repeating facts that you find under the cap of beer bottles
Who says birds are scared of cats! Note also the mentalist dog in the background, who presumably can hear the "laughing" - and how the cat decides the show is over once it realises it is being filmed!!
They simply defending there nest territory and try to scare off that cat :) pair of magpies made nest on tree near my window and they yell and annoy on everything that comes near the tree (mostly cats)
@DAVIDUK2381 they are very clever i have a cat and one day i saw my cat being wound up buy a a magpie..the magpiw was dancing around my cat and every time the cat went for the bird it toook of and landed behind the cat this went on for about half an hour before my cat was fed up and came in for some cat food..i realy wish i filmed it..that bird was playing a very dangrous game
are u crazie not the magpies are the pest but this motherfucking dometicated cats are, they have to be locked up. here in germany they destroyed a lot of bird populations
such a cute vid. same thing happens around here since we have many magpies + cats... its kinda cute when they annoy the cats.. no harm comes from it... thanks for taping the moment! hi hi... cheers.
The magpies are protecting their offspring. You can hear their kids' voice now and then, a very short "kia". Magpies usuallu attack cats when they have eggs or small ones to protect. I bet this video was taken in Spring.
i once saw a sparrow hawk with a magpie in its talons outside my house, it was a sight to behold, but thats not all. the magpie's flock were helping it, by cawwing into the hawks face and pecking its wings, the magpie was tenacious and would not give up, until finally it broke free and the hawk went hungry. i wanted to see the hawk win because in Ireland magpies are seen as pests. they carry disease from eating dead rats and chase off other birds such as the native crow and small song birds.

Hey "Joker99352" I hope your aforementioned shotgun would be for the cat and not the birds. Whoever owns that cat should have their arse kicked. Cats should never be allowed to roam free....day OR night.
Cats don't have a natural place in the food chain anymore, though. They've been bred right out of nature. If they roam free and kill to eat, they upset the balance of ecosystems. In the northern American midwest, they've been known to ruin wetlands because of the waterfowl they drive away.
I once watched something very similar outside my home in Glasgow, only the magpie had this big cat on the run. It was swooping down on the worried looking pussy and kept on chasing it right out of my street until I lost sight of them. I assumed the magpie was protecting her nest but was still very surprised at the sight.
dit deden ze in 'mijn' tijd ook al daar. DEZELFDE twee als twaalf jaar geleden zo te zien ;-) grappig om te zien. plaats ook eens een filmpje van de pottenbakker!

Have a search for "Bird Bullies Cat EPIC FAIL!!! w/YouTube Editor" and you'll see a video of this technique going badly wrong for the birds.

Cats keep down pests while keeping out of the way of everyone else. It is cruel to lock cats up. They are roaming creatures.
While the magpies are pests.
