I live 6 miles away from Chapman and go to school there. That tornado wiped out all of our schools. And today's voting day for the bond for new schools!
I lived in Manhattan as a child on Stagg Hill. I have lived in Northern California for the past 30 years where the weather is always non threatening. A few earhquakes once in a while. I find Tornadoes much more terrorizing. If I have to visit Kansas for any reason. I must have a basement room to sleep in. Otherwise, I'd probably develop anxiety if the sky turns grey. In california, when its grey, its either fog or light rain. But in Ks, it seems like an automatic Tornado watch.. Yikes..

Well, there have been instances of tornadoes in England...there was one that hit part of London last year. I am presently living in the UK and let me tell you, the wind can blow just as hard here as it does in some places in the U.S.
I VERY STRONGLY DISAGREE!!! Storms here are about 10x Worse here guarenteed espacially if you live in my area. Yesterday we had just a big thunderstorm and it had 70mph winds and it was 250 miles long and those are common!!!! So don't even tell me England has bad storms. Tornados only happen in America (FACT)!
Actually, tornadoes have occurred on every continent except Antarctica. They are simply more common in the United States than anywhere else in the world.
70 mph winds occuring along either a 250 mile squall line is not "common". And if thats not the case, a single storm with enough energy to produce 70 mph winds AND travel 250 miles is even less common.
Again, I reiterate, bad storms (***INCLUDING TORNADOES***) occur on every continent except Antarctica. If you're not going to do your homework, please slap yourself in the face repeatedly.
Here is a fact. When the tornado touches ground there isnt any raian falling its a logical fact. Also there is thunder and lighting before but non when the tornado is touching the ground then after there will be some thunder and lighting and thena fter a few minutes the storm will move on. Also thousands of tornados touch down a day. :)
Your an idiot. Thousands of tornados do not touch down everyday. There are only select places on our planet where tornadoes even form. quit trying to act smart, and do some research.
Tornadoes have occured on every continent except Antarctica. They may not occur everyday but they are fairly widespread.
CatieRo11 is right - tornadoes can form rainwrapped. Lightning strikes the planet thousands upon thousands of times per day per second which makes it VERY likely that lightning is occuring during a tornado touchdown, let alone before or after the tornado forms.
If you're going to make such basic comments, at least do your homework.
I'm a KU Jayhawk fan and even though KSU is our rivals those people effected on campus have lives more than just playing softball or baseball football basketball etc they were in there dorms that got ripped apart!!!

God is punishing Kansas because of the evangelicals and Southern Baptist. Their bigotry and hate has reach heaven and God is raining punishment on them.
The Chapman tornado occluded (roped out) north of I70. The Manhattan tornado was from a different circulation that developed in the storm. That tornado first touched down near Ogden and tracked up into Manhattan. These were two separate tornadoes and nothing was on the ground when the storm tracked over Junction City.
Thanks for all of the kind words! Brandon is my chase partner and it was definitely a night to remember. It's hard to watch a tornado that is completely rain-wrapped move through a city at night. Thoughts go out to everyone affected by the tornadoes we witnessed that night. Go State!
Great footage, I have family in Manhattan Kansas and I keep looking for real coverage....I also lived in Manhattan for 10 years...THANKS for your time and effort to let us see more!

my heart is going out to manhattan. i graduated from there a couple years ago, and lived within blocks of where there is serious damage now. what a great little town, love my wildcats!
What do you mean no Tornadoes in West Texas! I grew up having to run to the storm shelter in a driving rain. From about Lubbock on down to Snyder there is a "Tornado Alley". People come out to find there tractor and its in a ditch 2 miles away. WED
Ok,Ok you are further west than me. However, keep in mind that everyone west of Dallas claims to be a west Texan. I have even heard people in places like Canyon correct me when I referred to West Texas being somewhere else. WED
I'm also in California. Graduated Chapman '86 and went to K-State. I saw a lot of tornadoes come and go in my years there. Never saw anything like this. God bless everyone there. My prayers are with you.

As a K-State alum, Kansas native living near another "big one" that passed thru recently (Windsor, CO), it's unbelivable how many storms continue to roll thru this year...Thanks for the footage!
Thankfully this tornado didnt hit where I live...I live and Fort Riley and thats about 30 minutes from chapman and 20 minutes from manhattan....this thing went right around us!!! But I have chapman in my thoughts...
well...living in kansas you get used to the sirens going off..but when you know a tornado touched down..miles from you..that just gets you right in the gut..Glad I have a basement!
we don't have tornadoes where i live (well, actually we had one but it was small and isolated). i live in washington state and our worse natural disaster is earthquakes. we have bad wind storms, but no tornadoes. so hearing how devastating tornadoes are or can be scares me, but i love watching them form (like before they hit the ground). so this video interests me a lot. this was awesome to watch :) but it's still scary seeing the aftermath destruction.
Thanks for putting this up! I live in California and read about this on CNN last night before I went to bed. My dad lives in Enterprise and I went to Chapman and K-State. Even though I'm 1500 miles away, this is still my backyard! Very sad!
OH im sorry...yes my sister called from Texas because she saw it on national news this AM...her hubby graduated from Kstate...and they had 20 million in damage at Kstate alone..not including the city of Manhattan...I'm anxious to see more footage...afraid to drive there..just too sad..hugs shelly
thankyou for sharing this...i was afraid to go to manhattan for a dr's appt...decided to call and cancel..and they didnt answer the phones...assuming they are closed:) gotta luv living in kansas!

A força da natureza me fascina, é uma adrenalina inesplicável, apesar das suas consequências. Parabéns pelo vídeo.

we don't have tornadoes where i live (well, actually we had one but it was small and isolated). i live in washington state and our worse natural disaster is earthquakes. we have bad wind storms, but no tornadoes. so hearing how devastating tornadoes are or can be scares me, but i love watching them form (like before they hit the ground). so this video interests me a lot. this was awesome to watch :) but it's still scary seeing the aftermath destruction.

Great collection of shots! Are these all from last night?
ingertalbot 3 years ago 3
Yes, they are from last night - I was watching when they were streaming it live on their website.
The people seen at 1:51 were trying to deter looters (Little Apple Toyota dealership), and asked them to leave.
