I have the exact same problem with my Webbie. Did you find a way to fix it or anything?

yeah tell me about it, im definitely not buying the Sony Webbie now that i know the motor noise of the focus lense sounds exactly like a cat purring... -.-

Wow, is that a defect of your webbie cam? Or are all Sony webbie HD cameras have that little annoying focus adjust motor noise??

I know. Optical is way loud in this camera. But i love the picture quality.
