  • Idkanymore is right, nowadays it is far more correct to refer to these animals as saber tooth cats, as they have no close connection to tigers apart from the fact that they are felines. The subfamily of sabertooth cats (Machairodontinae) was parallel to the evolution of modern day cats and so are not ancestors of these. It is correct to call them CATS in the broad meaning of the word as feline; but really, "tiger" doesn't have much to do with the matter.

    No is entirely sure why they went extinct -- maybe their teeth was not adapted well? Maybe their prey died out? Or maybe early humans hunted them out?

  • Its not called a Saber tooth Tiger its called a Saber Tooth Cat there are no such things as "Saber tooth Tigers"
