  • The singing quality is due to the unsophisticated equipment used in those days and the deteriorated film quality after all the years. Some of the old Hollywood films have the same problem.

The singing is typical Cantonese style before the 70's. This has dropped out of favor since due to the foreign influences in music style in HK.

Considering it probably took a crew of 5 to 10 (including sound, light and filming), that's pretty admirable.

  • 以前的女音好似鸡仔声

  • the singing was so scary ...!

  • Great clip many thanks Michelle. 俞明 (1924-?) did not even get a chance to speak in this clip! He was in over 300 films and contributed significantly to the films of the olden days. Yet as far as know, he never had any recognition from the TV/Film industry. I have to crown him 甘草綠葉之王 and wish him well.

  • Thanks for your comment. In the clip, Yu Ming somewhat looks like an outsider, but his body language (he keeps playing with his fingers, if you notice) and facial expression reveal that he is totally uninterested in joining the conversation. Though he only played minor roles in movies for his whole career, he certainly deserves our respect.
