Sean Connery WAS James Bond. He had the perfect mix of sex appeal, wit, violence, charm and wry humor. I've seen Daniel Craig in other things, and he was brilliant. However, his portrayal as Bond stinks. He's a wooden as Roger Moore! Lazenby had a few good moments. Brosnan's performance was workmanlike. Dalton was also too wooden. BTW... Ian Fleming wanted Cary Grant or David Niven to play Bond. In the books, Bond was a sophisticated Gentleman.

Connery wasn't in Casino Royale- when the movie series started, Albert Broccoli couldn't secure the rights in time, then it was made into a spy spoof with David Niven, Peter Sellers, and Woody Allen (and the producers didn't want another serious version to follow so shortly), so they did Dr. No instead. Oh, and I disagree- I think Craig is an excellent Bond- more rough around the edges the way the character was written, but Connery will always be my favorite.

The original novel was very low key, just like Dr No. When the producers of Casino Royale tried (unnecessarily) to reinvent the franchise, they immediately set the wrong tone by padding the film too much with unneeded digressions.

I appreciate Connery (he is the most similar to the Bond created in the books by Fleming), I like Moore also- his Bond is funny and very British. But let's say that Craig is the best. Live and Let Die, The Man With Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only. Were suposed to be Moore's only James Bond Movies. However, after Moore had announced his retirement from the role. Connery announced his return in the Thunderball remake, Never Say Never Again. Cubby did not want a new face to go up against Connery and he wanted to beat Connery at the box office. So, they gave Moore alot of money to return and an option for another film, A View to a Kill.

Craig's a great modern Bond. He simply doesn't have the air or sophisticated mystique of Sean Connery! Is he the new era Bond? Absolutely, a fine actor. But without the Charm that made Connery so deadly as the first Bond!

When Sean said, "Bond....James Bond" you believed it. Beyond a shadow of a doubt! He was plenty fit enough to actually be the part as well!
