k everyone I just want to clarify, he is playing the notes that go with what he is saying, his guitar goes through a pedal board (such as distortion, compression, delay). This specific pedal is called a "talk box." when he plays the notes along with the notes he sings, it sounds like the guitar is talking. Actually the auto tune is way easier than this. With this, it wont correct you if you do something wrong. You actually have to have some kind of talent to use this thing as opposed to auto tune.

technically, for those who don't get it, the signal from the guitar is re-routed from the regular playing amplifier, to horn driver (essentially, a high freq. speaker) that has a tube covering the aperture. This forces the sound waves from the driver into the plastic tube, which at Peter's mouth end, can now form syllables using the mouth shape. You're "talking" ... doing all the things you would do to make words, but the sound source is driving up from the tube, not your larynx.
