@sissybrianna, you can lean over the side of the carseat to push it down or push down with your hand in the seat pan (much easier without baby there!). I've gotten into tight spaces before just by moving the front seat up all the way.
Question: If you're working with a smaller vehicle (for example, my wife's 2002 Kia Rio), and can't get into the vehicle like that to push the car seat down, what are some techniques that can be used to get it tight enough?
Actually jsrcamp, the base IS NOT SAFER then putting the car seat in with the base. The base is purely for convenience. Reason being, people dont check the base as often as needed and installing the seat without it, makes sure it is installed correctly every time. Talk to any certified car seat tech.
I can see if it was a Convertibial Carseat( one that goes 5-35lbs or sometimes 40 lbs.)but a carseat made just for 5-22lbs autamiticaly come with a base now and it is safer for the baby. if you have an infant seat that is older you should look at the date on the back and discard it after cutting the straps so nobody else takes it and hurts their baby in an accedent.
thanks for posting this. i have a baby due in 5 weeks and all the videos i've been looking at were for car seats with a base- which ours doesn't have. this helped a lot!
