@AlavHar in compiz, it's the zoom desktop feature in compiz which you can assign to keyboard shortcuts, such as the function keys. For editing, I usually just port my gtk record my desktop captures to pitivi, and render them as webm in 720p or higher, which is good for youtube.
@SickTechShow there are several programs for this. The one I use is called gtk-recordmydesktop. Search it in the software center, and you'll be able to save a video file of what you do on the screen, ask me anything if it doesn't work
Ty! This really helped me out! Also, people who run Ubuntu in a diffrent language than English have to write Desktop in their language. At least thats what i had to do!
Like everything else I attempt in Linux, this didn't work. What a shock. Why can't something as simple as changing themes be straightforward? I get no errors with this process but no new themes ever show up in the Appearance Preferences no matter what I do.
And why in the hell isn't there a tutorial for getting this to work on the Gnome Look website itself????
@scylla222 Just in case, try another theme. One of the disadvantages of gnome-look is some of the lazy programmers didn't put the damn thing together correctly. If it still didn't work, make sure you're using root privileges (sudo *command name here*). I hope it works. May also want to make sure you're using a relatively current version of gnome, which you probably are.
@PJMAN2952 it's easy, all you have to do is type "sudo su" and it will ask for your password you use to login, and you have unlimited control over your computer, so you can do stuff like do stuff outside your home folder. Just make sure you dont delete importaint files or something
@PJMAN2952 did you make sure you had root privileges and extracted the compressed file? If so, yes, some of the themes that are found on gnome-look are unresponsive, or just flat out don't work for some reason :( try another one, and let me know if that one works. Make sure you're browsing in the 'gtk 2.0' section
thx for the video :) but there is a proplem when i typed the the command it says "cp: missing destination file operand after `/desktop/macos-x/usr/share/themes'
Try `cp --help' for more information" (i'v put the file in the desktop)plz help
@MrYafawi oh, this is an easy fix don't worry. You're home directory should look like this though "~/Desktop/macos-x" and you have a space between the directory of the folder you're moving, and the destination. So, it'll look like this:
"sudo cp -r ~/Desktop/macos-x /usr/share/themes"
Make sure you include the tilde character before Desktop, capitilize EVERYTHING that is on the screen, and have a space between the theme folder, and the destination which is the themes folder. Hope this works :D
i typed the code into teminal but nothing happened so i went to "apperance" and the new theme wasn't there... i'm running linux mint 11

odd. I try it again with the tilde infront of /Desktop and it does nothing when it seemed like it tried to work with the -/Desktop
experimental0000 1 year ago
I tried that and it asked for my password then it gave me this cp: invalid option -- '/' so not sure what the heck
