  • Very nice! Thanks for the insight! Question: Do you also have the tdw1 expansion or can this also be achieved without this expansion?

    Thanks!

  • whats a thsnare?

  • Hey man what do you exactly use? ´cause I downloaded SD 2.0 and when

I play a long is kind of slow. I use a roland TD3 drumkit

with a Mac Brook Pro but what else shall I use? do I gotta use an

    interface?

  • Thanks for a great demo!

  • great demonstration of zones and dynamics.

i cannot find an actual roland td-10 and tmc-6 model. Wich would be an actual equivalent? TD9KX?

Does superior recognize different zones on single pad/cymbal by himself?

    very impressive btw

  • this seems to sound better than any hardware module........... to my ears hardware sounds fake...........

  • U ROCK MAN

  • Hello Rock Debris. Great video man!

I know would be a pain in the ass, but could you put the model of each part of your kit in the description of the vid?

Roland nomenclature sometimes makes things harder... how you connected TMC6 and TD10 module in PC at the same time?

Thx A LOT for the video and congratulations for the killer drum solution/ sound!

  • @ThyMiguez: It is basically a Roland V-Pro kit from several years back. I connected the TMC6 through the TD-10 (you can serialize MIDI-DIN connections like that).

  • I'm curious, howcome you didn't put the tom pads in order of size? To me, that'd feel way more natural coming from an acoustic kit...

  • @TheAbsorbant : I like having the larger shells used for a traditional 4-piece configuration as those are the pieces I use more than any else. The only shell that might seem out of place to another drummer is the smaller 2nd floor tom, but I haven't had any problem with it.

  • man will i need to get a new sound card for my computer if i get Toontrack superior drummer 2.0???

  • Is the TMC-6 usuable with Superior drummer 2.0 ? I'm trying to find the best system for trigging sounds from my computer. I have roland and alesis pads. Would the Hart Hihat work with TMC-6 ? Thanks for your help !!

  • Hi RockDebris, got a question;

in Superior Drummer 2.0 do they provide samples of each of the crashes when they are not crashed on the edge but ridden on the body? Also, do they give samples of the bell of the crashes?

    Thanks for your time

  • @cussy182: That is mostly a question of the library that is being loaded. In the default SD2.0 library (called N.Y. Avatar), they only provide a single crash zone, which sounds like and edge hit at the higher velocities.

  • very instructive video.

  • i have a TD-4 and the drum brain has a midi output. the toms are dual trigger but the drum brain does not support rim shots so my question is if i buy the superior drummer software can it support dual triggerin on the toms??? and do i need a tmc 6 for this???

  • Really good Video!!

  • nice vid.

"the roland td-10 provides a function that detects position on the head and provides zone output"

i was wondering if that function is limited to the td-10. i'm thinking about getting a td-9kx, but head position detection would be a dealbreaker.

    thanks!

  • The TD-9 does not offer position detection, only the TD-10, TD-12 and TD-20 do. I don't believe position sensing is the most critical thing, but it is good to have.

  • yeah, i actually read in another forum (roland maybe?) that you consider the function that randomizes similar-sounding snare hits to be more important in terms of realism.

i'm trying to get a setup going in an apartment strictly for recording. do you think a td-9kx with bfd2 or superior drummer 2.0 would get the job done convincingly? i'd be recording mostly indie/experimental rock a la radiohead, wilco, grizzly bear etc. any thoughts? thanks bud.

  • Yes, I still do think that the randomized hits in the same velocity range trumps snare position. Nice to have both, but most people do not miss the later on a TD-9, etc. I think you'll be well impressed with that kind of system, you'll get very convincing results.

  • Position sensing isn't really necessary i think. Superior drummer never trigger two exactly the same sound behind each other so you'll never have the machine-gun effect so it's not a real miss to don't have position sensing and it saves you a lot of money

  • I am stuck on a similar question too. I am planning on buying an electronic drum set only to trigger SD2.0 for recording purposes... I am considering td9s vs DTXpressIV Special since they are the same price range. Which one would you guys go with? (The DTXpressIV has a 3 zone snare)

  • Rock,

@3:10 how were you able to get the HH to go from Fully open to 3/4,1/2,1/4 and chick.Mine only goes the otherway, From fully closed to 1/4,1/2,3/4 open. If I do what you did here its just fully open to foot chick and nothing inbetween. I'm using a TD8 and the vh11. Thanks!!

  • Did you check out the SD 2 preset file that I have included as a download in one of these videos? Look in the description of the video and you should find the link.

  • Is you snare, ride and Hi Hat trigger from the TD-10 or TMC-6?

Also did you have to reprogram your midi notes from the TD-10 or TMC-6 for the dynamic response your have on your Hi Hat? Which Roland Hi Hat cymbals are you using? Your dynamic response rocks I gotta know how you did that.

  • The snare and HiHat are plugged into the TD-10. The ride is plugged into the TMC-6. Though it doesn't really matter as the TD-10 and TMC-6 have almost identical trigger-to-midi interface features. The HiHat is the Roland VH-11.

  • dude you did an exelent job, im even thinking to start taking classes and buy a digital drumset because of you lol, the only problem i had with drums is how lowd they use to sound , how hard it is to have a set that sounds in tune with your other elements etc, now with this.....

  • Nice work!

hey, i have a question... the drums that i hear in HateFX album... (i've listened to it on myspace, btw it's amazing!) were those drums recorded with an electric drumkit and Superior Drummer?

  • Thanks. BTW, the album is up on Rhapsody now and we have the CD back from the printer. The sound for the drums on the album come from Steven Slate samples, except for the toms which came from SD 2.0. We used drum replacement over a recorded track and not my edrum kit.

  • Steven Slate drums... those samples are quite expensive right? plus, i live in south america, i think it'll be a problem to get the samples... well i think i know something about that process...

    did you use drumagog?

( i'm a hateFX fan from CHILE, i've talked with G using facebook, if you talk with him ask for a guy Called Martín)

    thanks for the answer

  • I don't think they are that expensive, pretty much on-par with other VST drum solutions (at least getting them here in the U.S.). We did not use drumagog, but a manual and more tedious process.

  • Nice work, your drum's response is perfect.

Did you install all the 5 SD2 Dvds to have all these features? I'm referring particularly to the positional sensing funcion.

  • Thanks. Yes, I did install the full library.

  • How do you set up the TD10 with Superior? Does the software come with templates? If so, where?

  • There are no templates that ship with S2.0 at this time, but if you look in the "More Info" section of this page, you will find the S2.0 project file that I used for the video. You can load it directly from the presets menu and it includes everything, including my MIDI Map.

  • the roll with positional sensing is fucking awesome.

  • can you please show the wireing diagram for those of us that need a picture to try to make things work. thanx todd

  • There isn't much to it from a physical wiring standpoint. The pads/cymbals go into the TD-10/TMC-6 units via a very typical 1/4" TRS (stereo) cable. The TMC-6's MIDI OUT connects to the TD-10 MIDI IN via a MIDI cable. The TD-10 MIDI OUT connects to the computers MIDI IN via a MIDI cable. The MIDI signals from both the TMC-6 and TD-10 are transmitted to the computer on that 1 cable (The TD-10 passes the TMC-6 MIDI data thru).

  • Your kit sounds fantatastic. Great video, thanks for sharing.

  • Are you trying to say that you have an unexpanded version of TD-10? :-) I am thinking about Td-8, TD-10 or TD-12 but your videos are setting me towards TD-10. If your kit is an unexpanded version (without TDW-1) and has such superb capabilities, then it's excellent. How's the 3 zone cymbal on unexpanded TD-10? would it work as in this video? (I know you direct it through TMC-6 here)

  • I have the TD-10 expanded with the TDW-1 card. However, I do not see a reason why the unexpanded TD-10 wouldn't be just as good. The TD-10 was out before the 3-zone ride, but the 3-zone ride can still be used. The expansion offered some integrated parameters in the triggering section, but nothing critical to its overall function. Basically, it is still 2 cables and 4 MIDI notes (You use 3 and discard the second bow MIDI Note)

  • great video, thanks for sharing. Is that zip file some midi commands or something? I tried to unpack it and that is what it looked like. Also, can you use Cakewalk to record your drum track and mix it with mp3s? I thought it would be cool to make some vids of me playing to some songs I like.

  • The file contains a Superior Drummer 2.0 project that you can load if you have that instrument software plugin Yes, Cakewalk Sonar can do that easily ... but it is designed for much more.

  • Awesome, awesome, awesome. Love it Joe. More vids like this, please. :)

  • What model Hi-hat is that?

  • That is a Roland VH-11 hooked up to the TD-10.

  • thanks a lot men you are a great, but now my only problem is setting my module, because i have the td-20....

well, but i´m gonna be on contact with you.

thanks again and take a look of my performances:

    aldo hormazabal. thanks again

  • Great video, thanks for sharing it. Your kit sounds great!

  • Now ... that's a video. Thanks for sharing man .. thunderous floor toms by the way

    Pim

  • Thank Pim! I'm digging the little extra EQ oomph I put on the toms, as well as the kick. The S2.0 file I used can be downloaded from the info area now.

  • Tks Joe . will download it !

    Cheers

    Pim

  • hi,can you help me with the setting of the cymbals chokes and hi-hat complete?

i mean, the midi mapping, because i can´t set the hi-hat correctly. thanks a lot.

  • Hi, I added a link in the info area so that you can download my S2.0 project file and examine it directly.
