Nature's unifying principle? There is no unifying principle, and to look for such a thing is futile. The notion of a "unifying principle" is basically a Judeo-Christian idea, transposed into certain quarters of science by Einstein and a few others, and ultimately duping millions into solving a puzzle that does not even exist. Read the polythiests (i.e., Plato, Tacitus, Homer, etc.) to help move away from the false notion of "one-ness."
The "oneness" referred to is the bottom line: we must see ALL of humanity as ONE to create a world of equality and fairness; resources distributed to all equally. It is the only way.
I think you may be perceiving "nature's unifyiing principle" too literally. He's speaking of how our brain's components work together to make a very complex system successful. Similaryly, evolution affords us all EMPATHY to help provide success for survival as a community. You say that memory is not located in the brain. I'd be interested to know where you've heard/read this. But anywho, it still seems like humanity is a virus to the Earth. We measure evolution is human terms. But who's to say what evolution really is ? Is our ability to reason, build, destroy, "agree with" non-instinctively really a sign of evolution?
My Mom had 4 kids..all of them born "normal" but then one of the 3 boys got a brain tumor at age 6. His entire life from then on was a succession of one operation after another, and essentially she raised a child who was totally dependent upon her. At one point..she "agreed" with the conditions that she was given in life, and it set her free. She could never articulate the connection she made with "spirituality," all she knew was that it worked.
That's not a clear example of spirituality. It's an example of someone thinking positively and benefiting from that. You can invent woo-woo labels for it if you like, but I don't see the need.

It's as though we are stuck in a system, like DOS in our computers. The "free-will" is concealed so deep inside, and it takes a special knowledge to reveal it.
But, getting back to the video; it mentions the concept of "free-will" only once, and it seems that it's taken compeletly out of context, vktrsx. On one side of the proverbial coin, you are in agreement. But then, somehow, it becomes too complicated to swallow.
You say "we are not free," then you say that with the right knowledge we can reveal "free will." I call BS on the last point, but would you care to explain the apparent contradiction? I suspect this is a matter of poorly-defined terms.

Again, odd choice of words ("transfers" sounds like you mean the brain sends things OUT to the senses, which is backwards), but yes. I think you meant "translates."
By "occur" I mean that's where it all happens. The firing of the synapses occurs within the brain. Emotions (let's stop saying "feelings" in case there's a confusion with "feel" as in "touch") are just brain activity.
(It's a bit more complicated - we haven't mentioned the affects of chemicals - but emotions are not in your heart.)
It isn't a "lot" more complicated. The other systems affect brain activity, obviously, but ultimately that's where "you" live; that's where everything you experience takes place.
You could theoretically exist as a brain in a vat, connected to virtual reality. You would cease to exist if your brain were removed and destroyed.

if you look into scientific researches about human body, you will see how much more its complicated. for example, recently it has been discovered that memory is not located in our brain. brain is just a machine, which processes some information for us. but it does not cause anything that happen to us, moreover, the "data center" of all things that already happened is NOT even located in our body. where is it - no one really knows.
same with thoughts and feelings, "appearing in your head" where are they coming from, where's their cause? is there any logic to them, any laws that rule them?
i don't know, maybe this area is a "woo-woo" for you, but to me its the only area, worth studying.
From my understanding, the "person" in the brain merely interpets data in an inverted way. THIS malfunction, if you will, is the area in which we must "agree" with.

I often preach about acceptance, that if all the cells in our body fought each other for their differences, rather than working together in harmony, our bodies would get sick, break down and cease to function, building cancerous and unhealthy bodies instead of healthy flora, which is akin to our Earth being our body and humans the cells.

Cells work well because they are unconscious and all perfectly alike. The 'global brain' can only exist if individuality dies. Only if we are all motivated for the species as a whole, and not for ourselves, will it work.
I don't know about you, but being a mechanical addition to a system, cold and with no room for individuality, is not my idea of happiness.
It's always the same problem. The system works best without individuality. But what are we except individuality?

Nature's unifying principle? There is no unifying principle, and to look for such a thing is futile. The notion of a "unifying principle" is basically a Judeo-Christian idea, transposed into certain quarters of science by Einstein and a few others, and ultimately duping millions into solving a puzzle that does not even exist. Read the polythiests (i.e., Plato, Tacitus, Homer, etc.) to help move away from the false notion of "one-ness."

Similaryly, evolution affords us all EMPATHY to help provide success for survival as a community. Flawed ? One could say that. But if we're to take a more metaphysical approach, one could say that the universe is perfect because it... just is. Like God is perfect, if you want to call it that. So all this apparently flawed behavior could just be part of the plan, which would include either 1) wiping us out so the Earth can go on, or 2)making us evolve, as this could be the dark before the light. Our collective id. The id is the seat of all the boiling emotions and unrestrained passion within our conscience. Balanced by reason the older we get, but still *pretty* active during our teenage years. Infants are dominated by their id. So I postulate that as a species, in the way we act, we're still very much under the effect of our *collective* id (especially in North America), and increasingly trying to balance it with reason or a higher ideal. Therein lies the "battle".

redletter, you're misinformed. Socialism, Facism, communism, and capitalism are all money oriented systems, which incorporate and perpetuate competition. When people have to work AGAINST each other, aka, COMPETE, it drives societies apart and causes uneven distibution of resources. I'm talking about it on a livable scale, NOT games and athletics. Can't you discern or must you think in just opposites?

blaziermissy: Perhaps the self-exaltation and the degradation of others...which is self-centered...is the real problem. Perhaps we need to seek the elevation of all humanity via constructive competition, in a society-centered rather than a self-centered modality. I have problems with competition as it is currently practiced...because it is most often self-centered, irresponsible, and destructive. But just because something is flawed...does not mean that it should be completely eliminated.

You say that memory is not located in the brain. I'd be interested to know where you've heard/read this. But anywho, it still seems like humanity is a virus to the Earth. We measure evolution is human terms. But who's to say what evolution really is ? Is our ability to reason, build, destroy, "agree with" non-instinctively really a sign of evolution?

Alright vktrsx, here's a clear example for you:
My Mom had 4 kids..all of them born "normal" but then one of the 3 boys got a brain tumor at age 6. His entire life from then on was a succession of one operation after another, and essentially she raised a child who was totally dependent upon her. At one point..she "agreed" with the conditions that she was given in life, and it set her free. She could never articulate the connection she made with "spirituality," all she knew was that it worked.

That's not a clear example of spirituality. It's an example of someone thinking positively and benefiting from that. You can invent woo-woo labels for it if you like, but I don't see the need.

You're right: it's not so simple at all. We are not free.
It's as though we are stuck in a system, like DOS in our computers. The "free-will" is concealed so deep inside, and it takes a special knowledge to reveal it.
But, getting back to the video; it mentions the concept of "free-will" only once, and it seems that it's taken compeletly out of context, vktrsx. On one side of the proverbial coin, you are in agreement. But then, somehow, it becomes too complicated to swallow.

You say "we are not free," then you say that with the right knowledge we can reveal "free will." I call BS on the last point, but would you care to explain the apparent contradiction? I suspect this is a matter of poorly-defined terms.

Otherwise, it's blind faith—simply believing what other people tell you. But, this video doens't strike me as religious at all. It comes across as more realistic and open to the possibility of global transformation....if enough people grasp the desire for it. (!)

But beyond that, there's the connection to Kabbalah, which is some sort of Judaic mumbo-jumbo that I don't fully understand and don't want to.
Anyway you still haven't explained this "special knowledge" that's supposed to reveal the truth of free will.

Basically, the "knowledge" is an inference to the Law of Nature.
Aligning with this Law and respecting the fact if I step off a cliff, I will free-fall; I won't be able to fly...no matter what I believe. Essentially...(and not far from what this video talks about) is that I agree with situations that may not necessarily accommodate my personal comfort zone...but that sets up THE perfect conditions for my spiritual development.

When you say "Law of Nature" -- with Caps no less -- I get spooked. It sounds too much like Deified "Natural Rights" (which don't exist). As long as you're limiting it to natural forces like gravity I'm OK. But some people try to use "Natural" to justify all kinds of nonsense that just ain't so.
Anyway, I'm afraid I don't really understand what you mean there.
I also don't really understand what "spiritual" means. To my mind, "spirit" evokes the woo-woo frame, like "soul."

I am capable of feeling the emotion we call "love," yes.
But you make it sound like there's some kind of organ inside me that emits or secretes love.
The heart is a muscle that pumps blood. That's all it does. It has nothing whatsoever to do with feelings. That's the brain.
The "soul" and "spirit" are woo-woo words we use to describe brain activity. I realize that takes the shine off it a bit, but better to call it like it is, I think.

Again, odd choice of words ("transfers" sounds like you mean the brain sends things OUT to the senses, which is backwards), but yes. I think you meant "translates."
By "occur" I mean that's where it all happens. The firing of the synapses occurs within the brain. Emotions (let's stop saying "feelings" in case there's a confusion with "feel" as in "touch") are just brain activity.
(It's a bit more complicated - we haven't mentioned the affects of chemicals - but emotions are not in your heart.)

there are things that you react to from the outside world, and there are things that "occur" in your brain "from within". do you agree?

It isn't a "lot" more complicated. The other systems affect brain activity, obviously, but ultimately that's where "you" live; that's where everything you experience takes place.
You could theoretically exist as a brain in a vat, connected to virtual reality. You would cease to exist if your brain were removed and destroyed.
Agree with the last bit, tentatively, unless/until you start adding woo-woo. ;-)

if you look into scientific researches about human body, you will see how much more its complicated. for example, recently it has been discovered that memory is not located in our brain. brain is just a machine, which processes some information for us. but it does not cause anything that happen to us, moreover, the "data center" of all things that already happened is NOT even located in our body. where is it - no one really knows.

From my understanding, the "person" in the brain merely interpets data in an inverted way. THIS malfunction, if you will, is the area in which we must "agree" with.
A new perception of reality develops from this type of observation upon oneself.
