This would be excellent used as motor controlleable potentiometers, sort of like the motorfaders you see on expensive audio mixing desks.
How about a simple rotary dj controller that has midi ins and outs, and can be set to the last known position with the flick of a switch, or auto fade between two channels.
Yes they do. My Robonova 1 robot is built with HSR 8498 servos and it has a "recording mode" that you can use to capture different positions for the robot.
Hey, that works then. Those also claim to have a much higher refresh rate then the normal 'analog' ones, so they would probably be better suited for human interaction. However, I already have a bunch of these :-).
nice.

thanks for sharing! you should check this out topobo.com
its a project made in 2004 by MIT. they use the exact same principle.

@zzveta Yeah! And I've seen a few new toys that also incorporate this sort of control- it's really fun to play with.

3 people don't know what servos are.

ABSOLUTE GENIUS. EXACTLY what i was looking for to create a project I've wanted to do for over 2 decades!

That is funny... I did that a few hours ago with 3 servos for my arm...

So when using a servo as an input device, that new wire you added will output a voltage reading? not a pulse?
chueey14 2 years ago
Yep! It's just a straight analog voltage.

The possibilities!
Great tutorial, this inspires me!

All HiTec digital servos have position reporting built in. Why would you not use that?

Hmm, those do look nice. I don't have any of them though :-). Do you know if they do position reporting when they are not actively driving an output?
