We lived on laplace st. and rented and lost 2 vehicles and my dads $20,000 harley plus all other belongings!!! We got nothing to help us get back on our feet! I love chalmette, its my whole life and i'm still trying to fix the house we bought several yrs back!!! Chalmette is coming back strong and my heart will always be in da parish

There were speculation that people still are not back to "normal" 4 and half years later, is that even an option for you right now? Are you living in "normally" now? If I remember correctly, people were saying that there are families that still do not have a home to go to or their own bed to sleep in at night. I am so sorry this had to happen to anybody. This is the 1st time I have been able to watch videos of Katrina. Now I read the comments & I am sickened. I never left, and I will tell you why. We stayed to help Older Loved Ones who refused to leave. You tell me what is more horrible, leaving your 60 yr old parents & older relatives or run & let them Drown. I do not know how many might not have survived had it not been for the few strong men who could run the boats & lift older people off of these roofs. Just ask these folks how hard it was..

Katrina was a weakening cat3 at landfall. New Orleans was on the weaker side of the storm and at worst experienced strong cat2 winds.

None of that really matters though because of her sheer size she was able to move a huge amount of water. cat3 winds, cat5 surge. Same thing with Ike right now, though he is much larger than Katrina and is a significantly stronger storm because of that influence.

People are too stupid to understand that wind speed is not the only danger in a hurricane.

It seems to be a cat.3 now...but still, best of luck to all you guys who live there, hope you'll survive and won't get injured!!! I was in hurricane Dean in Mexico last year, that was a cat. 5 and no fun at all..where I live, in the Netherlands(europe), we don't have hurricanes here, too cold! Good luck out there tomorrow when it makes landfall..i'll keep my fingers crossed!!
