ACC did contact the DA's office..... said "not enough to prosecute". We are still pushing them to take on case. ACC volunteers also set up a Compassion Program last yr for euth animals....(i.e. I spent 2 hours with Benson before he was put down..we played, gave lots of love and yummy treats. United Action for Animals took the video and support ACC by helping with the Cruelty Cases and Compassion Program. Dont blame ACC!
Keep in mind though that dogs and cats with "no temperament issues" are put down every day due to shelter over-crowdedness. ACC takes in an average of 110 animals a day. The ASPCA was asked to take the case and Benson but they declined.
What is more disheartening is that there are many more Bensons. This is why we hike up to the Bronx for every anti-climatic hearing for the dog fighting case. The trial begins 11/16...so please join us. He was seized from the backyard of the owner's grandmother house. He was put down because he failed his safer test twice...due to food aggression. I know its BS...poor thing was starved.... of course he had food issues.
Hi All. Thanks for caring. Benson was a Cruelty Case at Animal Care & Control of NYC. His neglect was "not severe enough" for the ASPCA to prosecute. Yet just look at the photos of his ribs which are from a week after he was seized! He was found emaciated, tied up on a 2' rope & standing in feces and urine. Please dont let his death be in vain. ACC is trying to prosecute cases when the ASPCA passes.
I am crying, wishing Benson had crossed my path, because I would have saved him. It is WRONG to kill dogs who are healthy. Dam who ever murdered Benson. RIP angel bully with all the dogs who deserved better, sweet angel Benson.
