The reason why ST:TAS succeeded in spite of its cheesy animation is that the writing was so freaking good. It was illustrated radio but damn good illustrated radio. I think JJ Abrams might do well in considering starting a Flash animated series in between movies. It could be wonderful. And it could keep people looking forward to the next ST movie.

My only objection to that is that TAS did *not* succeed. Which is not to say that it shouldn't have; it was a lot better than most of the dreck in the Saturday morning kiddie block, particularly for the '70's. And it won an Emmy, as I recall. But it was cancelled after barely a season. That's a real shame, but there it is.

Still, maybe it would work if we tried it again today.
