  • Manjula.....Thank-you soooooooo much for posting these recipes! I recently moved to a tiny little country town... and there are no authentic indian restaurants nearby. Now I can actaully make my own Indian food and prepared some for my husband. Horray! I hope you have much success!

    Make Aloo Dum without sesame seeds, it will be ok.

    You can make Aloo Dum without paprika and fenugreek.

  • Manjula, where do you find all your spices? We do not have an indian store here where I live so is there a reasonably priced online store I can get things like garam masala, & that other spice you use asafetida? Shukriya =)

    Besan Gives thickness to gravy and nice texture but it is not compulsary.

My significant other is lactose intolerant, so anything milk-based is off the table. Thank you for everything!

  • @Manjulaskitchen .. Aunty your looks disguise a bit... But your way of preparation clears the doubt whether you are south indian or north indian... Nice recipess. I come to youtube to see your preparastion about everything. :)

    To my surprise you dont often use onion for gravy at all...Can you explain me whats the purpose of onion i kitchen then (exclude as salad) I would love to hear from you aunty.

  • It can be what she calls aloo dum but it is in no way close to typical Kashmir Dum Aloo where from the name has been drawn. But people can enjoy this recipe if they like it.

  • I made this with yams last night and it was so yummy with chapatis. Thank you for these videos--I've missed the delicious indian food my neighbors made when I grew up in Bradford in the 70s.

  • thank you for the delicious aloo dum recipe Manjula! yogurt recipe: 1/2 gallon whole milk

    2.5 T organic, active cultured yogurt

    Pour milk into pan and boil. Stir constantly.

    Cool milk in pan until luke warm.

    Add LIVE yogurt culture.

    Mix well.

    Cover top of pan with 4 layers of cheese cloth. Spread a towel out in an undisturbed place and place pan in middle of towel; cover the pan with the rest of the towel.

    Leave undisturbed overnite. Place in fridge in the morning.
