Edgar always asked Mortimor at the end of each routine how he could be so stupid. My favorite reply was; practice , practice, practice. I miss the era of Edgar Bergen and I miss his genious.

Damn, Marie was a frickin hottie. Not big on the hair but I'm sure it was "in" at the time. Shes still pretty cougarish though you can tell shes had a lot of plastic surgery and really doesnt look the same now as she did then.

Edgar Bergen always moved his lips a little, his genius lay in his ability to make it seem like there were two completely different personalities doing an act together. No other ventriloquist ever made it feel like the character was really someone else. The telling point was radio. Listen to any other vent on radio, they don't sound like a comedy act - Edgar and his team always seamed like completely different actors working together.

@vic2497 it always reminds me of a line in woody allen's "radio days".
the aunt is enjoying a radio show featuring "a popular ventriloquist", and the uncle says "what good is a ventriloquist on radio, how do ya' know he's not moving his lips?".
but he did create the illusion that charlie and mortimer were real. so much so, that in the early days of his radio show, volume would go down when charlie spoke, the crew had been moving a boom mike back and forth over edgar and charlie's heads.

Really great stuff. Love it. In another episode when Edgar asked Mortimor why he was so stupid, he answered " practice. practice, practice.' I now use that line when they ask me.
