  • Do old typewriters need special paper or the regular multipurpose paper is good?

  • @9753241860hb As far as I know they just use normal printer paper. That's what I used in this video and it looked pretty good.

  • loved your film, and your typewriter - just purchased a wee cutie just like yours - I might consider threading together a response to your vid!! cheers for sharing something creative and delightful

  • @fxworkshop Thank you very much! I still have the typewriter here on my desk.

  • my grandma got one like that , its working and its epic :D

  • @101Collateral I really like having it, it's such fun to type on, if really difficult because I am used to typing with backspace.

  • @TheGrooverNamedOolau When you type, are you not used to there being a Backspace? lol

  • How did you make that video?how many shots did you take?

  • @MrKrevolution I can't remember how many shots I took. I think that I used every single one that I took in the film, so whatever you see on screen is what I recorded. I used my Sony PD-150 with that to film it. It was fun!

  • i got one remington 12 but i dont know nothing about it plase come to my channel, see and comment.

  • Ha! I'm glad I found this. What a cute film.

  • @didgeboy287 Thank you :)

  • @TheGrooverNamedOolau :). I love this, I’m gunna subscribe. :)

  • I remember when typewriters were common and when you entered an office you knew they were busy by the sounds of the keys striking the papers. That clicking sound and the ringing of the margin bell are sounds I will always associate with offices. You can now only experience that sound environment by watching an old movie with an office or news room scene.

  • lol i have that EXACT SAME typewriter!

  • The hard part is finding a place that can repair them. There's only three places left. One in Chicago, and Two in Berkeley

  • @archt01 I would actually say that is not true. There is a guy in my city who repairs both watches and typewriters. For smaller stuff you should be able to find someone who can repair it in any major city. I'd say start at an antique store and see if they know anyone who can fix stuff up right.

  • Glad to see so many lovers of old typewriters. I learned to type on an old Royal or Remington. Nothing beats it. Check out my new blog post, newdorf.com/old-typewriter.

  • OH MAN I WANT ONE OF THESE SO BAD. I love to write and that typewriter would be perfect.

  • @GamerNinjaX It's pretty rad. I like it, though it's kind of tough to go back to a format where there isn't really an "undo" button. The sound is awesome, though. I got mine for $30 at a junk store. In reality it's missing a spring and doesn't work, but I'm looking for someone who can get it fixed up again.

  • I am an expert typewriter technician, maybe I can help you

  • @GamerNinjaX The sell 'em at Goodwill, or Office-Max, or Ebay. Sometimes you can get really good deals.

  • thats so cool

my grandparents have an old typewrite like that...except its in italian so liek the writing on it is a little bit different . the only thing is though that the ink shows up only a ittle bit

  • hey what brand and model is this?

  • pretty good short film.

  • Loved it well done!

  • Where can I get a vintage looking typewriter that is actually new and functions?

Is there a website/store that sells typewriters that appear old/vintage/antique, but are actually new and functioning?

  • @Feiistyx3 I'm not sure about online. Try antique stores, junk stores and garage sales. Mine was a lucky find.

  • @Feiistyx3 eBay will always get you something. I got mine from a guy in the US. It cost a bit, but he was a restorer and it's been working perfectly for me over the last three years, and I still haven't even needed to change any of the six ribbons that came with it.

  • @Feiistyx3 Try Office Max

  • My dad bought 1 from a sucker for 8 dollars! ;)

  • @daniel223543 naw 8 bucks sounda about right got mine for 10

  • I laughed a little bit at the end... Not because it''s funny but because it was one of those moments...

  • @LoDork Thank you :)

  • @TheGrooverNamedOolau yeah ending reminds me of jack black kinda smile

  • @TheGrooverNamedOolau Just watched it again and I still laughed a little...

  • @LoDork Thank you :) I do plan to be doing some more videos in the near future, too. Maybe bring back the typewriter.

  • @PoshSE95 Awesome. Does it function and have ink? I kind of use mine for a decoration for my room, unfortunately I'm too used to computers to be able to type on it very well.

  • @PoshSE95 I actually got it on the cheap from a used store. The typewriter doesn't function properly so it was only $30. I can't give any tips really, except try garage sales, Ebay, craigslist and kijiji. Also indie clothing stores and stuff used them for decoration. I don't know if you'll find one as old as mine (a 1930's model I think?) Good luck though!

  • where can I get one?

  • @lilfunny11 I can't say for sure, but if you want to get one you'll have to look. I would try garage sales, Ebay, craigslist and kijiji. Some clothing stores I've been at use them for decoration but they'll probably not part with those easily. It'll probably be hard to find one as old as mine which is from the 30's (I think?) Happy hunting!

  • Their not too hard, ebay has like 5billion, might be hard to find a restored one that's affordable.

  • I love your video, it not only shows the beauty of the typewriter (despite the model) but the magic of your camera skills. I bought me a underwood champion 1940s and it's superb!!!

  • @aidaelinapo Thank you. I've done a bunch of short films since this one, actually, but so far, this is one of my favourites. All the moving parts inside are certainly intriguing. I love my typewriter, even though it needs a new ribbon.

  • @TheGrooverNamedOolau soon we wont need these any more there will be something else besides that like we are typeing things on computers now and theres ebooks now we wont need to read on paper anymore that would be cool or even more in it i have many thoughts about things

  • i liek it i hope soon to git a typewriter from my grand father :D

  • what camera did you record this with?

  • @horbergaren Sony PD-150. It's a nice camera, done me good over the years.

  • @horbergaren Sony pd150.

  • Looks like you need a new ribbon.

  • wow, Typewriter: Itself

:) I have a typewriter coming my way soon and I am super jazzed about it. I hope mine turns out to be as rad as your's!

  • hows your typewriter

  • @HighOnLife103 I just got a Royal KMM with a reconditioned original ribbon found in a garage! It sure is a beauty and Ill prob. Film it in action.

  • I plan to get a typewriter soon as well! I find that they're much better than computers, even though they do not come close to the technological advances that come with using a computer to type. I think that I like them because of its noise and its one simple purpose... to type! You don't get distracted with facebook or youtube while typing up a document on a typewriter.

  • Very nice shots!!

  • Thank you. It's all the camera.

  • It must be a great camera, but I can't imagine it having such a vision on how to pick a nice frame..;-)

  • I guess it's all me then. Thank you.

  • Very nice video. Not cheesy at all.

  • This is solid man.

    Enjoyed.

  • Thanks dude.

It was a fun thing to film, and I'm glad I got my typwriter.

  • what a beautiful film! it's so tactile...in a visual way. I'm now a fan of yours...

  • I collect typewriters. That is a very nice one.

  • I wish I could buy such a beautiful piece as yours, please tell me where you bought such a creature! Well, that was an amazing film. again tell me where you got it!

  • I found it at a nearby junk/antique store. It's actually slightly broken, and it only cost me $30.

  • that was really cool to watch keep it up man!!

  • Thank you :)

  • very cool short film. great job

  • Thank you. It was fun to make, and I love my typewriter.

  • yeah, I don't know. I'll have to put a video of it up.

  • I have that SAME Royal typewriter, only the back space is on the opposite side. nice film too.

  • Backspace on the opposite side?

    Geez, consider my mind blown.

  • Brilliant!

  • Thank you :)

  • i have a remington portable and its 100% complete :O

  • I have oliver 6, blind remington, and 60 more old typewriters :)

  • I only have the one, and only because it was cheap. I mostly bought it for photography.

  • that must have been a bitch of a job, fixing a typewriter, back in the day. you'd pry need a degree to do that nowadays.

  • I think you have the same thing as me. It's a vintage royal it's black 1946 it works fine and doesn't have a scratch on it. It smells like a old library lol. My ribbons pretty dry right now though. i bought a new one though.

  • That sounds about right. Actually though, the string that makes the carriage move over when you type is broken. So it doesn't ACTUALLY type.

I made it seem like it did with movie magic :P

  • I loved this it made me happy :-) thank you

  • You make me feel like I should stop making "films". Nice piece featuring one of my favorite of all things. (Even though I never was a fan of Royal machines.)

    Great film!

    Tommi

  • I basically only bought this specific machine because it was cheap (only $30 or so) and because it was the only typewriter in the place that was entirely intact. Actually, the thing doesn't really work, it's missing the spring that makes the paper move right to left when you type.

  • Oh, the ink ribbon came with it, when I bought it. So yeah, it's probably pretty dry :P

Some parts of it are okay, though.

  • wow. great vid.

also, holy shit i have the same typewriter. an old royal, i believe.

do you know what kind/model/make it is?

  • I actually have no idea. I was looking for a model number all over the damn thing, but couldn't find one.

  • Hey, I think your ribbon is a little dry. Nice vid.

  • sweet little vid, groove. i love it. that is why you are, "the camera guy".
