amazing. I grew up in St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover. PA where you'll find a 1924 Austin organ. Google St. Matthew Lutheran + Hanover + organ.
There is no St. Mary's "Cathedral" in Dayton. Dayton is under the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. This church is simply St. Mary's Church (Roman Catholic).
@jpwsml He was thrown out of the Catholic Church by the pope himself i believe the year was 1520 I may be wrong but I am pretty sure I am within a year or so of the right date.
Kind of ironic to hear the premier hymn of the Protestant Reformation, written by Martin Luther himself, played in a Catholic cathedral! Maybe the Catholics have finally seen the light? ;-) Nevertheless, beautifully played!
@march131958 Thanks, if I had more time to work on them I would definitely try too. However I usually just end up doing it and fudging it in here and there.
Yes, it was from one of her books, it's not very difficult but the keys on this organ were natural wood with no coating, so they felt extremely weird to the touch.
beautiful church, beautiful organ, beautiful hymn, beautiful playing!!!

I enjoyed your playing.

I say that because the hymn talks about how God's powers are above all authority on earth...and is very much anti-papal...

Don't let the Fathers or parishioners hear. :p haha you could be beheaded...

Great job. Would have loved to hear it in person.

@jbutler303 I understand that a Cathedral is where a Bishop resides. To me it looked and sounded like a Cathedral.

If this is "rough playing," I can only imagine how it would sound after practicing! Wonderful.

@kesmarn Thanks, I really wish I had some more time to practice. Even having my organ shoes would've helped tremendously.

Could you tell me what arrangement this is?

@scalethewall Its in one of the Diane Bish hymn arrangment books, I think its the yellow one.

With a smile, I believe Martin Luther knew that this beautiful piece would resonate at its best in the cathedrals of the Catholic church!

@terrypos :) He never did leave the Catholic church, he only sought to reform it. So your statement is entirely true! :)

Nice to see Martin Luther's most famous hymn played in a Catholic Church!

I think you play much better than Diane. All of her compositions sound the same to me. I think you would do well to improvise.

It is a dianne bish arrangement. You took a lot of liberties with playing it though! It needs some more work!
freedom2lead 2 years ago
Yeah, I never am able to play anything exactly as written. ; D

Diane has a vid of her playing it. She adds some snazzy fanfares to it at the transition point.
This is great

Nice job on a great old hymn! Fine sounding organ too.

Thanks it was a very cool old organ. Most of it's kind bit the dust during the 60's organ reform movement.
