Audi had a similar problem a while back about unintentional acceleration. The claims almost put Audi out of business until they were deemed false. What had happened was two people got into accidents (both over the age of 70) and claimed the brakes didn't work, then everybody else who crashed their Audi claimed the same thing (all as a means to avoid responsibility)... So excuse my skepticism.

To everyone that says toyota makes the best cars in the world, have never driven a volvo, a mercedes, or anything european. My volvo runs perfect @ 170k miles, I had a 1983 mercedes @ 216K miles that ran perfectly. And if it came to a car accident, which i've had in both a volvo and a mercedes... I'd pick them 100 percent over a toyota.

Both never had a single issue and the quality is outstanding. The most cars I ever saw broken down are toyotas, I see at least 3 a week being towed and my country is small. I think people can sue Toyota if they say they bought a Toyota based on this advert.

there was a statistic of cars braking down a few years ago in Germany. It said that of middle class cars the Avensis was number one (with a 1.2% rate). For example at the same time the -500 series BMW got a 25% rate. That isnt very good. Then from the smaller cars, Corolla and Yaris were both in TOP 3 of its class. So they really are VERY reliable cars, my dad has had 2 Avensis and neither one has had a broblem, same with all our familymembers that own a Toyota.
