  • this belongs with glycerine.

  • sucks. the worst song ever written in the history of mankind.

  • @homercrowley - Like superfine? Too funny.

  • this is a cool version

  • too much for that little studio, blew that shit up haha

  • dave matthews light?

  • Blah Blah Blah.....Who cares about all the opinions about whether the band is a "sell out" or if they've changed. If you like it, listen. If you don't, then tune out!!!!

Simple as that! As for me. I LOVE IT ALL. They are one of MY FAVORITE BANDS of all times! Snooty music " know it alls"....you don't REALLY know it all!

  • u dom

  • It's only bands like O.A.R and EARTH CULTURE that really kick ass

  • Marc and the boys pretty much rock the shit wherever they are......friggin awesome

  • @Yip221 - I personally use tubemusicdownloader com and have never payed for my music.

  • this is right where I am in my life

  • youre nuts, not one thing makes oar. everything about them is what makes them amazing.

  • ggh

  • the sax is what makes o.a.r o.a.r

  • Sax player is the most innovative member of the band lol...

Its a shame, because a lot of people watch this video and think...wtf is that instrument and why is it in this song.

  • If i could create a band a saxe would be one of the first members id need to have

  • I dunno sabian, looks to me like jerry rocked the hell out of that sax. I love how they weren't afraid to improv on a venue like letterman. Talk about a strong performance, damn. :-D

  • that is a fine guitar marc is playing

  • could have been a bit more sax in the mix

  • when was this?

  • liked them better before someone compared them to DMB

  • love this song

  • no need for the hate. this isn't this band tries to promote. so chill out. and no one cares about berkelly, or berkeley, or berkleee.

  • Why watch a song and then comment about how you hate the band? I laugh at people who take the time to whine, OAR is definitely a talented band and so what one song isn't great tell me one band you know that you like every single one of their songs.

  • These guys sound similar to Dave Matthews' Band... anyone else agree?

  • this is their best song, IMO

  • yo bro news flash:...have you heard any other songs besides this one?? you cant call a band bad based on one song

this song is what grew thier fan base..they have sold out madison square garden which makes them a legitimate band by anybodys standards...

  • they are the "great ones behind it", hey girl.

  • Amazing!

  • i heard this song where i work and i instantly knew it was OAR but ive never heard the song before.

  • hey guys, isnt the hey girl song an oldie?is it resung or are they the great ones behind it:D

  • it sounds exactly like them

  • lol why are they so amazing!? :D

  • I don't know. I'm seeing them live at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, SC. Its gonna be a bitchin show.

  • yeah i'm seeing them at kool haus on sept 5th i can't wait

  • Cool, I'm real excited about it today.

  • I like how they never sing a song the same way twice

  • can't wait till you guys come to Keene State College... it will be the best concert of our lives! you guys are amazing....honestly it will be my 3rd concert! but ive loved you guys since ive listened to music!!!!!!

  • MSG 2009 is gonna be a GREAT show! Can't wait.

  • Question: why was the saxophone player using pedals? Was the sax somehow routed through them? If so, how does he do that and what does it to the sound?

  • good question... i'm pretty sure it's a distortion pedal similar to a piano ( those three pedals underneath the piano ) enhances the sound allows it to carry. i dont really hear much distortion so not exactly sure but thats my guess. :p

  • Jerry uses reverb and echo a lot when plays. That might be why he has pedals. Also, the audio doesn't sound totally clean on the sax so hes probably using one of them or both in the show.

  • Well its not suppose to be a heavy song thats why.

  • This is kinda boring... you can't hear much drumming or anything heavy.

  • wonderful song

  • Oh, and for those of you who think that they are trying to sound like Dave Mathews Band.... Did you know that Dave Mathews Band was accused of trying to sound like jam band legends such as steely dan and the grateful dead when they were getting popular? Anymore, it's hard for any artist to be truly 'unique'. Love the music cause it sounds good, not because somebody else hasn't done it before.

  • Most of us posting are fans of their older stuff. Myself included. But I think it's unfair to label someone a sellout because they change their style a little bit. The fact of the matter is, they play what they like. An artist should play what makes them happy. If All Sides is what they want to sound like now, thats their choice. The band is changing, their lives are different than they were 10 years ago, and their music is reflecting that.

  • they're sold out.. all the new stuff is total crap. they WERE unique!

  • who are these guys? i keep hearing their name and i've checked out a couple of songs now and i don't get it .. maybe their old stuff is good (as referenced below) but this song and "Shattered" are crap .. no, they're not even close to unique .. three-chord excursions with predictable lyrics in a style that wants SO bad to be like the Dave Matthews Band .. i'm gonna check out more in hopes of finding a good song to cover because i keep getting requests for them .. i just don't get it

  • What is referenced below is VERY true

But this song (off one of their early albums) when played in concert- not a 3-minute version - is actually really good. "Shattered" is about as far from original as you can get. If you're covering guitar, look up some of their songs from their Madison Square concert on iTunes ("Risen" and "About Mr. Brown" have good parts)- but in general their guitar parts are 3 or 4 chord progressions...

But still a great jam band in concert! Listen to their early stuff

  • Risen is an awesome song, why dont they perform it live? maybe i just cant find it. Black Rock, 3AM, Five More Minutes, Sail Away, 59th Street Bridge Song...OAR has a lot of great songs from their older stuff.

  • Uhuh, Any Time Now and In Between Now and Then are two of my favorite albums ever. Some complain that in thier older stuff they were trying to sound like DMB, but I really don't care, b/c Dave Matthews is great, and most bands want to sound great, don't they??

Oh, and for Risen live, look up "OAR: Live from Madison Square" album on iTunes

    Risen should be on there

  • oar is good but their best to albums were their first two their last album was very pop sounding and not like the original sounding oar

  • I totally agree with you I want the original sounding O.A.R. to come back immediately.

  • Yea I agree that OAR is a great band, but I can't help but worry that they are starting to alter their free lance style to better fit the pop style where the popularity is. The new album, all sides, is good but definately has more of a pop feel to it, which i hope doesn't continue

  • I actually like this band. I think the singing style, lyrics music -the sax is killer, are all really unique.

Eh. Most bands are called 'sell-outs' once they start making money. It's less a reflection on them and more on the people who can't stand someone else succeeding.

  • some would argue its not about the money.

    Dispatch anyone?

  • Exactly. OAR originally signed with a small record label (lava, i think?) so their sound didn't get "commercialized'

Dispatch is great, too, but OAR's sound has kinda gotten more pop-like, less sax and jam stuff, more simple 4-chord songs. Dispatch, on the other hand, has always been great b/c they didn't sign

  • held46 has a point, but if you're a long time fan of a band, you just KNOW when something is going on when the sound is changing. IE: One could argue that Green Day was just trying a new "sound" in American Idiot. But Im a die-hard Rise Against fan, and comparing their new album with the old ones? You can just tell theres something different, the music is simpler, lyrics are more bland-idk.

Dispatch broke it off when they felt they werent in it for the music anymore-thats how it should be.

  • Ah good classic OAR. You guys should check out Capital Road if you like OAR.

  • the sound, just isn't what it was. OAR is not a band that sold out, they just adjusted they're sound it's got more production into it and it just doesn't sound as raw and pure as it once did.

  • love oar, but their last 2 albums have not impressed me. maybe 3 seperate songs on both albums, but looking back to their first released album, up till 2001's release....ohhh i miss it!

  • OAR rocks! there music and style is unique and awesome!

  • Okay, anyone on here who is NOT a musician needs to shut up. They didn't sell out, trust me, I know. So whomever is not a musician doesn't know what the industry is like so they can all kindly shut their pie holes.

  • ok so if I like the band and want to say something on here, I should stop and take some music classes first. Gotcha

  • Dude, like seriously I forgot I posted that, I might have been high, can't remember.

  • To a point, I agree. I mean, of course people have the right to voice their opinions, but some could use a bit of reason. There are so many reasons for a band to change their sound. People often assume money is the reason, but it could be lots of other things - personally, I think boredom is more likely. OAR shouldn't be punished if they want to make pop music - it's not inherently worse.

  • you have to have a genuine start or approach in order to sell out. ashlee simpson is just garbage.

  • The sax player plays with Mike Perkins in Columbus sometimes :)

  • oar is up there as single biggest sellout band ever. they were never great musically but had terrific energy which defined them. this was then forsaken in lieu of the pursuit of money, which i suppose they achieved so shouldnt be condemned. and by no means am i suggesting that an artist shouldn't be rewarded monetarily. however, when music is crafted to make money instead of as a form of self expression it is no longer an art form and simply a commercial product, which is unfortunate.

  • Sweet jesus. Give it up. Every single band that appears on television gets this label. Who cares? There music remains largely unchanged from when they hit mainstream. Everyone just has to call popular bands sellouts. Its just getting boring.

  • there are plenty of bands who have received critical acclaim and commercial success who are not sellouts (radiohead, beck, feist, etc). however these bands reached this status through the quality, appeal, and merit of their music alone. styles evolve of course but the genuineness and passion that defines the artist will remain. in oar's case their genuineness and energy was lost as their style most definitely changed to a more refined and overproduced sound which would ultimately sell better.

  • Considering O.A.R started out at Ohio State playing at Frat parties and such for friends making no money, i would hardly call them "sellouts". Most of their music was heard around Columbus, Ohio through hearsay; not through any form of advertising. Which shows that their music is their claim to fame. They are an awesome band!

  • this album got me through an 18 hour trip to utah

  • i completley agree that oar didnt sell out. there music still has the same type of message it always has . its something you can just chill and listen to. there old stuff was great but the new stuff is good too. i can still sit on the beach and listen to it and relax. oar is great

  • Yeah i agree. O.a.r. didnt sell out at all they are expanding their music. now when i want to listen to some reggae, rock, pop acoustic.... anything i can listen to o.a.r. they are not selling out at all.

  • i disagree with reggie...this is a band who has EVOLVED into something even better than they were before....there is nothing worse than listening to a band that is playing the same S__T as they were 5 or 10 years ago....and there is NOTHING wrong with making money!!!!!!!

  • Another example of a band that has given into society and changed just to get money..

  • And there's something wrong with selling out how?

  • yeah there is, if your just following trends to make money, your not expressing yourself, thats what music is all about. its phoney as hell and people start to realize that. perfect example: the jonas brothers, they are all about writing songs for teenybopper girls who only care about image abd being "cool" its marketing and fake and it makes me sick

  • this is the OAR i love.

not the new OAR they have become.

  • agreed although some of the new stuff is OK but not as AMAZING AS THE OLD WAS

  • 2:50...........MARC IS CRYING:)

  • yo i think he is!

  • Best part of this band, not only is the music awesome, but there a bunch of normal guys. There not up there dressed as a bunch of weirdo's like many bands are today. They dont preach to you at concerts, they talk and play.

  • You really dont find many bands these days that sing a song with a meaning instead of rapping about being a pimp or screaming your head off. Thank you OAR

  • amazing artists. i absolutely love them. and there's no doubt that they are better live.

  • O.A.R is coming to Madison, Wisconsin for the annual State Street "Freakfest" it is a huge party and us Madison (badger) students are very excited.

  • Then why the fuck did you listen to it. Go back to your emo or metal and cut yourself faggot.

  • Because i wanted to hear this shitty band that everyone is obsessed with these days. I do not like emo, and I listen to a little metal. I don't plan to cut myself, and I'm not a faggot by any definition.

This song blows in the worst way imaginable, and you're too stupid to know that. After all, your username has Nirvana in it, a band that has not been relevant for over ten years.

  • You're either retarded or jealous. The Nirvana dig is laughable. If you don't like it that's your business but you can't honestly say that O.A.R. isn't talented.

  • Hmm, okay they're 'talented'. The guy can sing, he can play basic rhythm guitar, they can write a song using three chords, and the saxophone player can improvise using the major scale. That is not saying much at all. This shit blows.

  • Nobody said this song is complicated, it just happens to be the most popular off that album. Go listen to 52-50 off SOAS or Black Rock at MSG and tell me they "suck".

  • I go to berklee college of music, I am a fantastic musician, and am surrounded by the best musicians in the world... and i STILL love this band. Great song writing and great hooks. If you don't like them thats fine... bitch all you want... but calling me stupid for enjoying their music? Please.

P.S. I know many other berklee students who love this band...

P.P.S. oh... and in case you didn't know...berklee college of music is the number one contemporary music school in the country.

  • You're a stuck up faggot. I bet you're a shit musician.

  • true, Berklee is a great school, but keep in mind that the greatest musicians didn't go there, most of them didn't study music at all at college level... and my opinion of a fantastic musician is that he plays well, has the soul, and is humble... You're missing at least the third one... You won't get far with being such a cocky little... thing...

  • Well many do actually people just don't know it. John mayer and Howard shore both went to berklee for example. As for being cocky..... sorry if I come off that way. My apologies.

However, being humble doesn't usually factor in to being a good musician....ever heard of rock stars?

    ; )

  • well okay, there's two of them :D no problem with the cockyness...

yup i've heard of rock stars, but i've never viewed them as that good musicians either :)

  • keith moon = rockstar

    keith moon= god of drumming

  • haha, youre funny :D

  • News flash: Berklee is not tough to get into. Know a couple scales, some basic sight reading skills, and have a shitload of cash on hand and you're in. So you and your Berklee first position strumming buddies all happen to like a really bad band. That does not make them any more legitimate as musicians, nor does it make you more qualified to tell me that OAR is good. Listen to the lyrics of that song, as well as the dull I IV V progression and tell me again it doesn't suck.

  • just because its a simple 3 chord song doesn't make it bad. Are u saying it has to be a new concept or a complicated song to be good? What about with or without you by U2, just a simple baseline and yet it's an amazing song

  • i agree... some of the greatest songs are very simple in chord structure.....

it doesnt need to have a billion chords and crazy time signatures to make it an interesting or catchy songs.

and plus... music is subjective. simple sells.

  • I know the song having 3 chords doesn't make a song inherently bad. Look at Paperback Writer by the Beatles. That's two chords. G7 and C. However, the song rocks, it's exciting, there's tension and release. This song goes E A B over and over. It's a tried and true staple in rock music, I know. It's easy on the ears, and it's got a cute melody that college aged chicks can listen to without getting too confused. But damn, the lyrics are laughable, and the music is boring. I'm just sayin'.

  • You go to "berklee" college of music and you cant even spell the name of your college correctly. It's BERKELEY. You poser.

  • Berklee College of Music is different than University of California at BERKELEY. Although your comment had nothing to do with me I felt it necessary to call you out and make you look like an asshole since you decided to thumb your nose at people. So take your thumb, sit on it, and get your shit straight. Cheers

  • you are a loser because you dont know the difference between Berkeley Cal and Berklee College of Music. you are a friggin moron

  • HAHA! Wow you are seriously misinformed. Berklee college of music is the correct spelling. Maybe you're thinking of UC Berkeley. You my friend are the poser.

  • you are seriously ignorant, try googling it, there is in fact a berklee college of music. it's not berkeley.

  • Wrong. Berklee.

  • fuck off you homo

  • it may be be three chords, but they do alot with it, therefor making it a good song with a good melody. you and your fuckface friend can just go ahead and listen to your punk ass emo shit, i bet you dont even play an insturment to appreciate what a band does, even if they arn't as complex as Incubus or ABR

  • musically theory-wise, The Dave Matthews Band is in many ways more complex than OAR. that's not a good or bad thing - whichever band people like is their choice. But anyone who says DMB "sucks" doesn't really know, musically, what's going on. What you really mean is, YOU don't like them.

  • you put it perfectly. comparing OAR to dmb is like night and day. dmb is so much more multi-dimensional its really not even fair to oar to contrast the two.

however, i'm really not a big fan of dave's newer stuff.

  • Just because DMB were these guys' inspiration doesn't mean they're not better than dave matthews. Because they are.

  • not anymore...

    they sold out soooooooo bad

  • Yeah, that's true. Let me correct myself:

Just because DMB were these guys' inspiration doesn't mean (old) OAR is worse than DMB. New OAR can suck a nut.

  • New O.A.R is good, don't be a douche. But hey, keep listening to Black Rock on repeat I guess. Most overrated song they have.

  • Black Rock is a good song, but they have better. The whole 34th & 8th album is their best.

  • Any Time Now and Live at MSG were better. If you really don't think All Sides as a whole is a very good album, that's your problem. And I'm not even talking about Shattered being close to the best song.

  • Yeah, I guess it is my problem. Or it could just be my opinion, much like how you think Any Time Now is better, or how I think 34th & 8th is their best. Any Time Now is very, very good, however.

  • Yeah I like 34th and 8th as well. It's just it really bothers me when people say their new stuff "sucks". All Sides is FAR from bad. People judge it based off of Shattered. Shattered is far from my favorite song on the new album, but I don't think it's a bad song at all. It's the exact way I felt about Love and Memories, not their best song, but certainly not awful. SOAS overall was a slight letdown with the exception of Heard the World, Lay Down and 52-50 being good, but All Sides is very solid

  • Saxaphone player is a stud... Love these guys

  • kippy and thax you guys are retarded oar wouldnt even be around if it wasnt for bands like dave. i love oar and dave they're both different groovy style bands who compliment each other pretty well so go learn some knowledge then speak

  • Amazing live performance, but like kippylizzy says, dave matthews sucks especially compared with these guys.

  • what the fuck. o.a.r. AND dave matthews kick fucking ASS

  • I swear these dudes are the shit DMB is for all the grannies and grandpas out there this is my age shit

  • don't listen to DMB from now. listen to DMB from when he WAS your age. listen to All Along the Watchtower from Live at Red Rocks vol 2. you'll want to your fist throw the wall. in a good way.

  • DAve Matthews Wanna be

  • Dave Mattews minus the gay.

  • yo the slow part in the beginning is dank. for someone who doesnt know the song you're like wtf and then when the instruments speed up you're like wow. marc roberge is my dreeeeam man dude and i CANNOT wait to be like 5 feet away from him next week :)

  • you can tell that they have really gotten better and tighter between now and then (no pun intended!)

  • he just needs to get a little closer to the mic, that's all

  • the beginning sounds kinda weird and i dont like it, any1 agree? When the song comes in with more instruments and gets faster its alot better though

  • great sax!! when I hear songs like this and especially blues it makes me want to pick one up and learn how to play

  • i am seeing them like right now

  • nothing is better than listening to OAR in the summer time with a beer when you're around your closest friends..thats what OAR is all about, to me thats it

  • Couldn't have said it any better! That is what O.A.R. is all about. That laid back attitude is exactly what I try to live like.

    -Keep Rocking O.A.R.

  • oar definately isnt the best band ever.

but theyre playin summercamp and im gonna watch em

  • Its like Dave Matthew Band and Bruce Springsteen E Street Band combined

  • Jerry went crazy on that friggin sax

  • i used to absolutely love this band.. but now i wont even admit to listening to them because they've become so damn mainstream!!.. producers and record companies need to realize there is such a thing as over-producing!

  • i agree with that sad truth, i mean i can understand that its a very good deal for the band, and if i was in the same situation... man i would like to get some money out of it too. But it blows when this happens to bands, at least what they do now is still half decent...

  • i agree. i loved the original version of this song...i cringed bigtime when i heard it re-released on "risen".

  • who cares, its still OAR jammin out to one of there best songs, OAR is known for changing things up a bit

OAR is the best band ever and if you dont like them cause they changed hey girl up a little bit, suck a big one

  • Wow. You're very mature.

  • don't hate them because they're getting more popular. They can't help that. You dont become a band to go nowhere.

  • fantastic :)

  • kanta ko chayo powaw hehe..i thank you cause your my girl..iloveyou..:)

  • and there ya have it nothing left to say........

  • O.A.R. = amazing

  • actually its "of a revolution". Haha kidding man, i know what you mean. lol yeah they are amazing!

  • These guys are awesome...everything they've done is good by me. Even in Soul's Aflame, when Marc's singing voice was pretty pathetic, the songs were always good, and Hey Girl is by far the best of all of them (IMO, of course).

  • AWESOME

  • i never really liked this band, but fuck...i didnt know they were loaded with all kinds of talent

  • O.A.R. is a great band, and a great show to go to...If they come to your town they are a MUST see..

  • old stuff was really good....new stuff not so much

  • omg i looove them i went to their concert it rocked :)

  • my friends cousin is in this band..

  • o yeah which one is it

  • omg really tahats awsome

  • OAR is amazing.

  • (to bricktop22) and oh yea check your inbox...

  • oh, i love this song when it's played live.

and they sound like the offspring of Dave Matthew's Band =P (but that's a really good thing)

  • trey would could jerk off with his own feces and make better music then these sell out fags
