@PatrickTheMOCR some taekwondo associations, such as the tagb (tkd association of great britain) have different styles of dobuks. and if u go to the kukkiwon, u will notice a difference from the traditional itf dobuk, seeing as how the kukkiwon is the wtf headquarters.
what do you mean you not good? that was amazing!! and for you to say otherwise is not being positive to yourself im a white belt and im actually okay, and your a black belt that is amazing! im glad you are far in your rank :D
Ah! Miss Cho, that was awesome :DD I'm in Tae Kwon Do, I take the style Ji Do Kwan. I'm at my second belt right now, and hope to one day make it that high a level, keep posting more videos, I'm intrested in watching. :)) Good job!
I couldn't do that I know that much. I'll stick with my ultimate defence: Me - Hey look over there! *Points in random direction* Attacker - Where? *Looks around* Me - *runs away* ^.^
So cool! I'm only a yellow belt and only started because I was amazed by a friend. Now that I see this, I REALLY want to catch up with her and maybe even you! Then again, it's a bit unlikely, but one can wish! XD
i do a different martial art, ITF taekwondo. Those are ITF patterns, but not ITF taekwondo, So that's the difference. From an ITF standpoint, the pattern execution is wrong. You can look up Jaroslaw Suska doing the same patterns on youtube or the ITFTuls channel on youtube. Y'oull immediately see the difference
LOL, those pieces of wood can be easily be broken because those are made up of smaller pieces of wood glued together or a really fragile piece of wood. I've seen it and touched one before, srsly I bet they can't kick hollow blocks nor bricks. Haha.
The patterns are done BADLY, i barely recognised them, Poeun did not look po-eun, kwang -gae was a disaster, by ITF standards. In Po-eun, the twin side elbow is done in slow motion true, but your elbows must together in close stance at the same time as the elbows come out. Your body didnt coordinate. Not Chang Hun patterns, sorry
@caribbeanpriceclub Are you serious? Get over yourself, Ms. Cho is a fantastic martial artist trained by a living legend, her father! Her forms are excellent, as is her technique...and regarding the boards, it's also about accuracy, speed, and technique...I'm sure she doesn't weigh more than 100 lbs., but can generate enough power to break boards, bricks, and bones...I've felt her power! Great video, Jasmine!
@nepalikanchinana its a lifetime achievment after GREAT GRAND MASTER,, IN SOME STYLES EVEN MASTER START THEIR OWN STYLE LIKE BRUCE LEE DID WITH JEET KUNE DO. FOR EXAMPLE NEPALIKANCHINANA DO KAHN. MEANING UR NAME, AND YOU WAY OF FIGHTING. YOU WOULD ADD DIFFERENT STYLES TO INFLUENCE YOU R NEW ART.
The way you perform your forms is the level I always strive to be at. The fluid movements, intensity, and control in your forms are incredible. Good job ma'am!
very nice ma'am i'm sure you make your father proud with every technique. how long have you been training? is this your career like your father, or just a hobby? again, great kicking techniques and po eun/ gaebaek are two of my favorite forms. although i havent been taught gaebaek yet, i can not wait. pilsung!
Whoa! I accidentally stumbled onto this video. This Jasmine Cho is really beautiful and her kicks are really sharp and fast! I can tell she put in a lot of hardwork in those!
I was expecting the daughter of a martial artist to be really big sized. She elegant and sweet! UPZ
i heard that when you are testing for 3rd degree black belt, they hit you in the balls as hard as they can and if you make any movements you wont pass
1:23 ... guy .. left side .. what the f.. buhahahaha he have 3rd :D hahhaahhaa that was bandae dollyo thats mean something like that hahaha and yee sparing ... gr8 sparing lol no touch 3rd LOL
For a grandmaster such as yourself it must be a great honor to be tested by such a worthy and wise martial artist. I am sure you are a very masterful master... oops sorry, "GRAND"master.
no carribeanpriceclub, that only happens when you do the movements incorrectly. The idea is that, by 2nd dan level, you can perform patterns correctly at that speed. If you cant, then dont bother going for your 3rd dan lol
May I ask what TKD organisation this is? I recognise Gae-bek and Po-Eun tul, but lacking sine wave and knee spring, some lovely technique and agility, keep it going :)
Hi everyone, just wanted to say thank you for all the positive comments. I know I'm not THAT great, and so it's an even greater honor when some of you say I've encouraged your own training. For those of you who choose to leave negative comments, I'm sorry you disagree. Can't please everyone :P
@grandmasterdaughter i like the part where you break the wood, that is cool. but as for the video it was great oh yeah i forgot to add, how long does it take to kick high like that, i guess what i mean is stretching till you can stretch at 180 degrees. i can barely do 75degrees cause i have a machine that measures how far you go.
@grandmasterdaughter Are you kidding me? Your truly amazing and very inspiring! Ignore the negative comments, they are just m.m.a.fan boys, and don't know anything about true martial arts. They don't know the hours of training and practice you put into your art. I hope when I go for my black belt in a year or two that I'll be up to your skill, Your deadly, amazing, and if I may say....... Hot =P Keep up the Kick @ss work Jasmine Cho and by the way, I love your cry, when you break!
@grandmasterdaughter excellent job! Your techs speed power precision and dedication are very evident and exceptional. You're an inspiration to many and I would like to be one of many that encourage you to continue with your studies.
I found this video inspiring & I'll bookmark it. Whatever anyone says this girl's TKD ability far exceeds mine. I doubt I'll be this talented when I take my third degree but I'll certainly try to get as close as possible to this level.
One cannot compare taekwondo patterns practitioners with Shotokhan practitioners in that way, anymore than you can compare Shaoling long fist or Baji Quan practitioers with persons practising shotokhan. The styles are diffrerent, the ideas behind the movement in the patterns are different. Thus it only makes sense to give your opinion on the best patterns person in a particular style. To my mind some of the best ITF patterns people are Suska of Poland ,Noemi Plone , and Maxime Bujold.
the techniques in your pattern for example ge baek are done out of order or are just plain wrong. After the LOW twist kick, low not high, you land in right walking stance and two two fast punches. Fast motion is motion done immediately following another motion without using complete sine wave your punching is too fast. Then step back into left walking stance with obverse high rising outer fiorearm block then low outer forearm block. po eun is too fast
I'm not being an ass, that's not polite. If you do your patterns that fast, what can happen is you don't complete your movement, ie blocks become halfway done, punches aren't fully extended etc.
That's why i'm saying the pattern is done too fast, to my eyes it looks like she is rushing the movements. I think they would be done better if she slowed down a little
also the tkd we learn doesnt really translate well into mma competitions because most of the techniques are strikes to the throat, arteries in the neck and groin. the idea is to strike the opponent in a weak spot to disable ( or kill if needed) before they can strike you. this video is only a tiny percentage of what tkd really is. i wouldnt attempt to tornado kick somebody in a street fight. but then would you try and superplex sombody or use a flying armbar in a street fight? probaly not
I do tkd in milton, ontario. although I would perfer to train in the uk because here it does seem like more of a sport now that you mention it. it's more than just a sport to me aswell and I would like to train in Korea where where it first began.
search for a tkd mma fighter called lukasz jurkowski from poland and you will see what i mean. our tkd is ITF and is more sloppy looking but much more effective than the fancy shit they do in the U.S. we fight quite alot against kick boxers or muay thai fighters in events and tkd when taught properly is no weaker than any other art.
i do tkd in the uk and over here its not weak at all. when sparing in our dojo sparing is full contact even when you start as a white belt. we are trained in all aspects of tkd, the use of kicks , punches blocks, basic throws and joint locks, the use of the elbows and knees. and ground work. our sessions are geared more towards self defence and the sparring is added to practice some of the skills. its like this all over euorpe tkd is taken seriously not like in the U.S were its just a sport.
Yeah wow this is pretty weak. If these people are all able to test for a THIRD degree black belt much less a black belt, it discredits this institution. Sloppy and ineffective, not worthy of any kind of black. Tae kwon do is McDojo, nothing I have seen of it has impressed me or seemed useful in a fight. What is with the no-contact sparring here. At 3rd degree black? You should be able to go full contact. White belt level guys in my MMA gym go harder than this every day.
I invite you to prove me wrong, I have seen supposedly "hard" taekwondo fighters straight from Korea get dominated by thai boxers, brazilian jiu-jitsu guys, and mixed martial artists. Not saying it can't a happen, I just haven't seen it. A good taekwondo fighter might be able to beat up an inexperienced person in a street fight, but what about another fighter who knows what they're doing? In every case I've seen, the other fighter wins.
I have to agree with you. Though I hate to admit it (because taekwondo is my "base"), hard working taekwondoins tend to, but not all the time, lose to other fighters becuase guess what? They focus a lot on the sport aspect of the art. So what happens is that they end up getting owned because they apply sport taekwondo techniqus -- bullet kicks or six extremely fast but weak kicks -- on their opponent. So In my opinion, it still depends on the fighter.
You're right, it does depend on the figher. If you have a good taekwondo base, you should try incorporating some of those other styles into your training. If you know and can counter bjj and muay thai techniques (which seem to be what I have seen winning against tkd the most), you have that much more of an upper hand with the taekwondo knowledge. You could probably catch a kickboxer/other figher by playing his game for a while then bam, hit him with a tkd strike he's not expecting.
i agree with auinnocent. belt rank is just colors and teacher's aids. you can break boards till your blue in the face or even have the best form but it doesnt matter. what matters is good technique
wooOooo should I take TKD? looks fun D:, I tried out before, but quitted on my second day cuz it was slightly boring with all the warm ups and wut nots D:
What "tkd" place, exactly? Stop assuming all great martial artists or all great martial arts schools have to been in Asia. She is that, her sparring isn't the best I have seen, but her technique is crisp and fluid, her patterns are very nice, especially Po-Eun. I love traditional tkd patterns, instead of sine wave. The breaks were a little iffy until she got to the speed and power break, those were great!
too many video games lead you to nowhere. imagine applying for olympic tkd and saying that you only know how to beat the whole of tekken game with some tkd character
I'm really interested in Tae Kwon Do, and am currently looking for some places around my area that teach Tae Kwon Do. This video strengthens my want to do this! Thanks, Jasmin!
looks an awesome testing ?(very good form too) i am a deputy black belt, been to one tournament in my training also taking out side training at school of tae kwon do
Why does she keep on saying 'I said' I must be doing the wrong style, seems to me that Dan gradings have got alot easier, and whats the point of breaking pieces of balsa wood.
Does anyone know what 3rd degree entails in Tae Kwon Do? For Japanese systems, the most distinguishing part of it is that you're now certified to instruct, and that's what the main focus of the testing is on. The physical conditioning is emphasized a lot more on the 1st and 2nd degree tests instead, and if it's the same here, that might explain why there wasn't much to be done... and I agree with you on the boards, even if it's something slightly tougher like pine, it's too easy.
Wow! That was amazing and inspiring. I just started Tae Kwon Do, and I absolutely adore it. I'm 17 however; does starting that late put me at a disadvantage?
no it puts you at a HUGE advantage because youll be expected to know more quicker and will achieve a black belt in no time im 13 and im a 2nd degree black belt and can break 4 boards lined up with an axe kick and side kick. (what belt are you?)
wow. that was amazing and inspiring. I'm a white belt right now, and I absolutely adore Tae Kwon Do. I'm 17 however;does starting that late give me a disadvantage?
i took much longer than most...i started training when i was 4 but didn't get my black belt until i was 13 (so 7 years??). usually, with consistent training, you can reach a first degree black belt in about 3-4 years.
LOL are you serious no offense but it took me 1 year in a half and I'm currently 13 and I'm extremely sharp and vibrant for my age. (I'm a second degree black belt)
I smell McDojo. I started at 17, been training two years and am only Red Belt. Yet, I have trained everyday and done isometrics everyday. My left and right sides are both equal, I have no problem sticking kicks above head level for minutes at a time, and even that isn't good enough for me to be black-belt. 4 boards? Is that the max? With a side-kick or an axe-kick should be twice as much, what's your max for speed breaking? I smell McDojo all over you.
none at all i tested early every time s and i have no problem kickin over practically anyones head and can keep it there for a very long amount of time and not sure my max speed?
On the subject of McDojos... honestly, there's way too many in the United States. I started up a martial arts club at my college, and out of a few hundred traditional martial artists and 50+ black belts so far, only about 3 really knew how to handle themselves in a fight. And one wasn't even a black belt, he was a red belt. I'm honestly very sad with the state of traditional martial arts and business-oriented McDojos today, they cheapen the arts so much. Tiger Schulmann's? Garbage.
"Extremely sharp and vibrant" is good, but honestly, be careful. If you can't fight on equal footing with a fully grown, 5-10 years experienced fighter, no matter how many boards you can break, you've a long way to go. Your rank doesn't matter, it's how well you can defend yourself.
ty you and you do speak the truth. and you are right there are too many "mcdojo's" lo cause in lost of plasces i see little 4 year older walking around with black belts. and cant even form a correct front snap kick with out an instructor or teacher.
Wow your amazing. Im trying out for tae kwon do soon. When my mom was in korea she took tae kwon do also. She stopped at 3rd degree. This makes me more inspired to try harder.
You should study in Korea! You're coming up great! I'm a 4th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, and i studied in Seoul,South Korea. I am now residing in America, but i still show my work to my 2 sons.... Haha. I'm on my son's youtube account. But you should definitey study in Korea, they are much MORE effective than the ones here in America.
Nice! I have testing this upcoming weekend and I have watched this several times for motivation. I feel pretty good about my testing and I'm excited. Thanks!
I see your blood runs very thick:) your moves are so similar to your dads. Awesome clip and keep up the good work. Your father was one of my greatest inspirations and i have never even met him... Truly a Master.

Perfect kicking techniques. Impressed with the speed break. But the forms and hand techiques can be improved.
IMO, the best forms perfomers are from the JKA, particularly Kagawa. Albeit they're Shotokan, the same theory can be applied to Tae Kwon Do forms.
Look them up and let me know what you think.

also the tkd we learn doesnt really translate well into mma competitions because most of the techniques are strikes to the throat, arteries in the neck and groin. the idea is to strike the opponent in a weak spot to disable ( or kill if needed) before they can strike you. this video is only a tiny percentage of what tkd really is. i wouldnt attempt to tornado kick somebody in a street fight. but then would you try and superplex sombody or use a flying armbar in a street fight? probaly not
tyebo87 3 years ago
I do tkd in milton, ontario. although I would perfer to train in the uk because here it does seem like more of a sport now that you mention it. it's more than just a sport to me aswell and I would like to train in Korea where where it first began.
FireAngelXooX 2 years ago
search for a tkd mma fighter called lukasz jurkowski from poland and you will see what i mean. our tkd is ITF and is more sloppy looking but much more effective than the fancy shit they do in the U.S. we fight quite alot against kick boxers or muay thai fighters in events and tkd when taught properly is no weaker than any other art.
tyebo87 3 years ago
i do tkd in the uk and over here its not weak at all. when sparing in our dojo sparing is full contact even when you start as a white belt. we are trained in all aspects of tkd, the use of kicks , punches blocks, basic throws and joint locks, the use of the elbows and knees. and ground work. our sessions are geared more towards self defence and the sparring is added to practice some of the skills. its like this all over euorpe tkd is taken seriously not like in the U.S were its just a sport.
tyebo87 3 years ago
damn nice tornado kick when ur breakin the boards!
nobberjr 3 years ago
Yeah wow this is pretty weak. If these people are all able to test for a THIRD degree black belt much less a black belt, it discredits this institution. Sloppy and ineffective, not worthy of any kind of black. Tae kwon do is McDojo, nothing I have seen of it has impressed me or seemed useful in a fight. What is with the no-contact sparring here. At 3rd degree black? You should be able to go full contact. White belt level guys in my MMA gym go harder than this every day.
getthetapjj 3 years ago
Taekwondo in America is definitely Mcdojo, but please,.. not all taekwondoin are weak. You should check Taekwondo fighters from Asia.
13thSentinel 3 years ago
I invite you to prove me wrong, I have seen supposedly "hard" taekwondo fighters straight from Korea get dominated by thai boxers, brazilian jiu-jitsu guys, and mixed martial artists. Not saying it can't a happen, I just haven't seen it. A good taekwondo fighter might be able to beat up an inexperienced person in a street fight, but what about another fighter who knows what they're doing? In every case I've seen, the other fighter wins.
getthetapjj 3 years ago
I have to agree with you. Though I hate to admit it (because taekwondo is my "base"), hard working taekwondoins tend to, but not all the time, lose to other fighters becuase guess what? They focus a lot on the sport aspect of the art. So what happens is that they end up getting owned because they apply sport taekwondo techniqus -- bullet kicks or six extremely fast but weak kicks -- on their opponent. So In my opinion, it still depends on the fighter.
13thSentinel 3 years ago

Uhh,she aint that good. I'd rather go to the TKD place in korea.
imasianurnotxha 3 years ago
What "tkd" place, exactly? Stop assuming all great martial artists or all great martial arts schools have to been in Asia. She is that, her sparring isn't the best I have seen, but her technique is crisp and fluid, her patterns are very nice, especially Po-Eun. I love traditional tkd patterns, instead of sine wave. The breaks were a little iffy until she got to the speed and power break, those were great!

Why does she keep on saying 'I said' I must be doing the wrong style, seems to me that Dan gradings have got alot easier, and whats the point of breaking pieces of balsa wood.
thetruthboss 3 years ago

Shmee8 3 years ago
hehe! you're not late at all!! many people who start "late" do so passed their 30s! :]
grandmasterdaughter 3 years ago
no it puts you at a HUGE advantage because youll be expected to know more quicker and will achieve a black belt in no time im 13 and im a 2nd degree black belt and can break 4 boards lined up with an axe kick and side kick. (what belt are you?)
yoshimitsublade123 3 years ago
wow. that was amazing and inspiring. I'm a white belt right now, and I absolutely adore Tae Kwon Do. I'm 17 however;does starting that late give me a disadvantage?

That's amazing. I want to start taking lessons soon. How long did it take you to reach black belt?
bitter37 3 years ago
i took much longer than most...i started training when i was 4 but didn't get my black belt until i was 13 (so 7 years??). usually, with consistent training, you can reach a first degree black belt in about 3-4 years.
grandmasterdaughter 3 years ago
LOL are you serious no offense but it took me 1 year in a half and I'm currently 13 and I'm extremely sharp and vibrant for my age. (I'm a second degree black belt)
yoshimitsublade123 3 years ago
I smell McDojo. I started at 17, been training two years and am only Red Belt. Yet, I have trained everyday and done isometrics everyday. My left and right sides are both equal, I have no problem sticking kicks above head level for minutes at a time, and even that isn't good enough for me to be black-belt. 4 boards? Is that the max? With a side-kick or an axe-kick should be twice as much, what's your max for speed breaking? I smell McDojo all over you.
jinglebearr 3 years ago
none at all i tested early every time s and i have no problem kickin over practically anyones head and can keep it there for a very long amount of time and not sure my max speed?
yoshimitsublade123 3 years ago
On the subject of McDojos... honestly, there's way too many in the United States. I started up a martial arts club at my college, and out of a few hundred traditional martial artists and 50+ black belts so far, only about 3 really knew how to handle themselves in a fight. And one wasn't even a black belt, he was a red belt. I'm honestly very sad with the state of traditional martial arts and business-oriented McDojos today, they cheapen the arts so much. Tiger Schulmann's? Garbage.
AUInnocent 3 years ago
"Extremely sharp and vibrant" is good, but honestly, be careful. If you can't fight on equal footing with a fully grown, 5-10 years experienced fighter, no matter how many boards you can break, you've a long way to go. Your rank doesn't matter, it's how well you can defend yourself.
AUInnocent 3 years ago
ty you and you do speak the truth. and you are right there are too many "mcdojo's" lo cause in lost of plasces i see little 4 year older walking around with black belts. and cant even form a correct front snap kick with out an instructor or teacher.
yoshimitsublade123 3 years ago
Wow your amazing. Im trying out for tae kwon do soon. When my mom was in korea she took tae kwon do also. She stopped at 3rd degree. This makes me more inspired to try harder.

I am now residing in America, but i still show my work to my 2 sons.... Haha. I'm on my son's youtube account. But you should definitey study in Korea, they are much MORE effective than the ones here in America.
